September 17 —Nauvoo Expositor, June 7, 1844 “We would ask him on the other hand, if the overthrow of the Church was not inevitable, to which he often replied, that we would all go to Hell together, and convert it into a heaven, by casting the Devil out; and says he, Hell is by no means the place this world of fools suppose it to be, but on the contrary, it is quite an agreeable place: to which we would now reply, he can enjoy it if he is determined not to desist from his evil ways; but as for us, and ours, we will serve the Lord our God!”
John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
The one and only edition of the Nauvoo Expositor is what led up to Joe Smith’s demise. Its author, William Law, along with his brother, published an incriminating exposé of Smith’s shenanigans of polygamy, amongst other things.
Smith obviously didn’t take too kindly to the news of Hancock County. Three days after its publication, Smith ordered the building to be burned down (June 10th). On June 24th, Smith and his brother Hyrum, were killed in a gunfight at the Carthage jail.
With the history review behind us, we have a few questions!
1.What Christian do you know that’d say hell is an agreeable place?
2.Why would a man of God state they were all going to hell together?
3.Who would jokingly state they could convert hell into a heaven by casting the devil out?
Oh dear Mormon friends – don’t fall for the jokes of Joseph Smith! Our Lord God won’t be mocked Gal. 6:7. To fear the Lord means to have a healthy respect for Him, and Mr. Smith’s words don’t portray any such thing.
Please, if you’re Christian, pray for Mormons who revere this man. If you’re LDS, we implore you to open your Bibles to find the One True God! The book of John is a great place to begin!
With Love in Christ;

Prayers for all Mormons. Sorry to say, Smith probably is finding out that hell is not agreeable and its not a good place to go. Its no laughing matter if u are on your way there.

Mj – I just cannot imagine. His words are crazy. If I thought for a minute that it was hearsay I wouldn’t publish these things but alas, I’m confident he really did say these things. Ugh…
Well, he knows the truth now – doesn’t he? How tragic!
Hi Sage Brush –
I would imagine he knows! It’s tragic that so many believe and trust this guy even today.
[…] Joseph Smith said Hell is an Agreeable Place […]
If he’ll was agreeable, then why would you need to baptize for the dead?

Great question! I wish I had thought of this when I posted it!
