October 27 — Today we’re using short quotes from two GC talks.
1.The first one comes from a talk by Elder Gary E. Stevenson: ‘Blessed Are the Peacemakers’. This man told people that in order to be true peacemakers they should temper anything they say online or otherwise with love. Long story short treat others as a child of God.
We’re wondering why they haven’t done this with their signature canon; the BoM. It’s filled with plagiarisms, blatant racism and lies. They also said to apologize to make amends — we’ll see how that goes.
2.The next talk we’re looking at comes from Elder William K. Jackson: ‘Remembering the Sheep’. This man reminded members that their church has a system set up so that no one is overlooked. He also said,
‘Christ has organized His Church in such a way that it should be difficult to forget a soul…Every individual in a ward, regardless of age or gender, has a multitude of stewards — shepherds — who are tasked with looking after them, with remembering…’
Now this particular talk had a direct impact on me and not in a good way. About a year after my husband and I were married we were living in a tiny German village. It was several kilometers from the Air Force base where he was stationed and had just one main road. It took over an hour to drive each way.
One day there was a knock on my door and there stood two Mormon missionaries and one of them said, “Hi Michelle how are you?”. Keep in mind I purposefully hadn’t given the Church any forwarding contact info.
When Mr. Jackson said they keep track of their ‘lost sheep’ they’re not kidding. For me it felt more like stalking than it was a simple check-in to see what they could do for me.
Pray that Mormons will see the Church’s motives for what they are and that they’ll turn to Jesus instead of their heritage.
Also remind them that Jesus lives in a believer’s heart, not in a building! Acts 7:48
