“The stick of Judah and the stick of Joseph”

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000In this next lesson we find ourselves in the book of Ezekiel, and another shining example the Mormon Church’s inflated ego that tells them a passage in this book is about them.

Probably one of the most well-known prophecies in Ezekiel amongst the Mormon people is found in chapter 37. In verses 15-28 Ezekiel has a prophecy of the reunion between Judah and Israel. However Mormons see it as a uniting of the Book of Mormon and the Bible. (“The stick of Judah symbolizes the Bible, and the stick of Joseph symbolizes the Book of Mormon.”)

Stick of Judah, Stick of Ephraim

Mormon Decisions 10Mormon Doctrine, pg 767; “Ezekiel, in foretelling the preparation and coming forth of the Book of Mormon, called it the stick of Ephraim, and the stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim. In similar imagery he called the Bible the stick of Judah. The promise was that these two records would become one stick in the Lord’s hand in the day of the gathering of Israel. (Ezek. 37:15-28.)”

The Sticks of Judah and Joseph

The Mormon quotes we’re using today are found in the Ensign and also used in an LDS Gem I received from the Church when I signed up for their daily scripture readings a few years ago.  It was titled “Biblical Descriptions of the Book of Mormon” so if you’d like to see the article in full, see Scriptural Witnesses.
