Earlier today Melissa sent me an e-mail sharing her thoughts from the Bible study she’s doing right now and because I believe this is such a classic example of the way Mormons think we’re posting our e-mail exchange with our readers!
Here are some random thoughts I had about this chapter.
I was reading this morning in Romans 8 where Paul talked about dying to our flesh and walking in the Spirit. When I came to verse 36 I thought about how the Mormons take their sacrament every Sunday to “renew” their baptismal covenants, and I wondered why they haven’t just died to their flesh yet? If they have to constantly renew these covenants they’re not walking in the spirit, and don’t believe they’re fully cleansed of their sin.
It’s like they’re going to the doctor each week for a checkup and to get the same shot over and over again to remain healthy.
Jesus freed them of all of that; they don’t have to always be cleaning themselves up each week. Wouldn’t it be so much simpler to just trust in Jesus? It’s no wonder so many of them suffer from low self-esteem.
In Christ,
Melissa Grimes
