Mormon Doctrine, p. 514; “To Moroni the Lord gave the privilege and power to bring to light the Book of Mormon. Following his mortal Nephite ministry,
he died and went to the paradise of God. (Moro. 10:34.) Then in modern times, as a resurrected being, because he held “the keys of the record of the stick of Ephraim” (D. & C. 27:5), he came to the Prophet and revealed the Book of Mormon. This coming was in partial fulfilment of John’s vision of another angel flying in the midst of heaven to commit the everlasting gospel to man. (Rev. 14: 6-7; D. & C. 133:36-40.)
Revelation 14:6-7; “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”
How could the resurrected man turned angel, Moroni, be a partial fulfillment of a future event that still hasn’t happened yet?
John’s revelation is part of a prophecy about the future Great Tribulation so how could this have happened?
Mind you, this wasn’t just McConkie’s theory, oh no! This came from Joe Smith himself in a prophecy he gave in Hiram, OH in 1831. You can read it online here in D&C 133:36-40.
PS: The online version of Mormon Doctrine has a different page number than the printed version. In print it’s on p. 514 – online it’s on p. 184.
