Today we’re looking at four of the General Conference Summaries, three of which were from women, and one from Henry Eyring, an LDS apostle. We’re focusing on just 2-3 comments from each.
We’re asking for Christians to come alongside us in prayer for these dear, dear people!
Talk #1
Trust in the Lord and Lean Not
Bonnie H. Cordon
Second Counselor in the Primary General Presidency
In Proverbs 3:5–6, we read this counsel:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” …
… When we spiritually lean to our own understanding, we lean away from our Savior. If we lean, we are not centered; we are not balanced; we are not focused on Christ. …
We must each ask: How do I keep centered and lean not to my own understanding? How do I recognize the voice of the Savior when the voices of the world are so compelling? How do I cultivate trust in the Savior?
May I suggest three ways to increase our knowledge of and trust in the Savior. …
First, we can come to know the Lord and trust Him as we “feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do” [2 Nephi 32:3]. …
TRUTH:
Sadly, she already blew it!
The words in the BoM are contradictory, and confusing.
How can someone feast on the words of Christ in the BoM when they’re not the words of the Jesus of the Bible?
How can you trust someone who contradicts themselves?
Second, we can come to know the Lord and trust Him through prayer. …
How?
Third, we can come to know the Lord and trust Him as we serve others. …
Again, how is this done?
… If we trust in our Heavenly Father and in our Savior and lean not to our own understanding, They will direct our paths and will extend the arm of mercy toward us.
TRUTH:
‘They’? God is one, not many. Her words imply she’s worshiping more than one God, which is polytheism, aka idolatry.
Lastly, on this talk. Ms. Cordon made the following remarks at the beginning of her presentation –
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
You’ll notice she’s referred to only ‘one’, not ‘they’ this time around.
Secondly, we’re wondering how she can stay ‘centered’ when they rely on their prophets, apostles, teachers, and other books?

Talk #2
Carol F. McConkie
First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency
I see the beauty of holiness in sisters whose hearts are centered on all that is good, who want to become more like the Savior. …
Holiness is in the striving and the struggle to keep the commandments and to honor the covenants we have made with God.
TRUTH:
Being a Christian doesn’t prevent you from having a bad day. However, why would it be a struggle to keep His commandments? The presence of the HS inside the believer all the time, prevents someone from wanting to sin. We’re not saying it doesn’t happen, but it shouldn’t be a struggle!
Holiness is making the choices that will keep the Holy Ghost as our guide [see D&C 45:57].
TRUTH:
Where’s He going to go? He promised us He’d never leave, nor forsake us! Hebrews 13:5
… Most often it is the sacrifices we make to keep our covenants that sanctify us and make us holy. …
Holiness is a gift of the Spirit.
TRUTH:
Wait a second here.
Didn’t she just say the sacrifices we make to keep our covenants sanctify us?
How can holiness be a gift if we earned it through our own righteousness?
We accept this gift when we choose to do those things that will increase the sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost in our lives. …
TRUTH:
Clearly then, this is not a gift.
This talk was actually one of the worst speeches we’ve seen in awhile. It’s a prime example of how they contradict themselves so they can confuse members, which in turn drives a bigger wedge between the people, and our Lord!

Talk #3
Linda K. Burton
Relief Society General President
“Our sisters across the ages have demonstrated the faithful pattern of discipleship we too strive for.
“The New Testament includes accounts of [certain] women, named and unnamed, who exercised faith in Jesus Christ [and in His Atonement], learned and lived His teachings, and testified of His ministry, miracles, and majesty.
These women became exemplary disciples and important witnesses in the work of salvation” [Daughters in My Kingdom: The History and Work of Relief Society (2011), 3]. …
… When we have become distracted, doubtful, discouraged, sinful, sorrowful, or soul-stretched, may we accept the Lord’s invitation to drink of His living water, as did the certain woman at the well, inviting others to do the same as we also bear our own certain witness: “Is not this the Christ?””
TRUTH:
We have just one thing to bring up with this talk.
The Samaritan woman at the well.
Jesus told her those who worship Him must do so in Spirit, and in truth – John 4:24.
If the women of Mormonism are to model their lives after this biblical example, they need to disencumber themselves from the god they’re worshiping in those temples of theirs.
The god of Mormonism is not the God of the Bible. In fact, the god of Mormonism is somewhat similar to the god of the Samaritan woman. The people of Samaria were known to be half Jewish, and half Samaritan; more commonly referred to as ‘half-breeds’ by the Israelites.
Their people had accepted the books of Moses, but rejected the prophets. Originally, they had come from the tribe of Ephraim, and the half tribe of Manasseh. (Yes, they were part of the Ten Tribes!) Her words were profound and not to be missed!
Pray for the Lord to open the eyes of Mormon women everywhere, and for them to study the history behind the Samaritan woman at the well!

Talk #4
President Henry B. Eyring
First Counselor in the First Presidency
“We have felt peace tonight. All of us would like to feel such peace often within ourselves, in our families, and with the people around us. The Lord promised peace to His disciples as He was about to leave them. He has made the same promise to us. … Your defense against these attacks is to keep the Holy Ghost as your companion. …
He will bring back the memory of those times when you felt the light and the love of Jesus Christ. …”
TRUTH:
When you felt the lght and love of Jesus??? You should never rely on feelings! You should only rely upon demonstrative evidences He’s given us in His word. Those evidences include the following –
- Evidential, and historical proofs of what He’s done, as seen in the Bible
- The marked way your personal life has changed since you accepted Christ Jesus as your God, and Savior.
Feelings, aka emotions, come and go with the wind, and should never be counted trustworthy.
“Your power to do good as a group of God’s daughters will depend, to a great degree, on the unity and love that exist among you. This is another gift of peace that comes through the Holy Ghost. …
The unity we seek in our families and in the Church will come as we allow the Holy Ghost to affect what we see when we look at one another—and even when we think of each other. The Spirit sees with the pure love of Christ. …”
TRUTH:
The Holy Ghost of Mormonism is NOT omnipresent, therefore, it’d be impossible for this feat to take place.
“…Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost will have a sanctifying and purifying effect on your spirit. You will feel the peace the Savior promised to leave with His disciples.”
TRUTH:
The HS of Mormonism doesn’t have to stick around, according to Joe Smith’s prophecy in D&C 130:23. This means the Holy Ghost of Mormonism is NOT the same Holy Spirit Jesus spoke of in John 14:27.
