General Conference, ‘Lord, I believe,’ April 2013 “Except in the case of His only perfect Begotten Son, imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it. So should we.” — Jeffery R. Holland
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
The other day Melissa e-mailed me with the quote above that she saw on a FB page, and shared her thoughts about this topic! With her permission, here’s what she had to say –
If I believed in a god who was once a mortal man, who probably sinned and had to prove himself and earn his godhood status, I’d probably think the same way. They have such a juvenile, small view of God.
God doesn’t need us to do anything. Our weakness aren’t “frustrating” to Him, it’s our sin and rebellion that angers Him.
This quote reminds me of something I heard Gordon B. Hinckley say as he addressed Missionaries at the MTC in an interview 60 Minutes years ago. He said “you’re not much to look at but you’re all the Lord has.”
I want God to look at me as His daughter and someone He loves, not as someone He just has to “deal with”.
Of course, Melissa’s insight is spot on, and I would humbly add our Bible verse above. Comments from LDS leaders have painted a picture of a malevolent god, not the benevolent God true believers know from the Bible.
Hinckley’s interview on 60 Minutes took place on April 7, 1996 and since that time, nothing’s changed. They’ve not denounced the ungodly doctrine, nor have they apologized for casting doubt on God’s Holy, Sovereign character. In fact, they were still talking about it 17 years later as seen in the 2013 talk by Mr. Holland, and 7 years later, on the FB page Melissa saw in 2020.
Pray that Mormons will know the truth about our Lord, and how much He truly loves us! The falsehoods of these men will keep going until the Church denounces what they’ve said.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
In the eyes of God, FAITH is considered perfection and righteousness. God knows we are frail, human beings
“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frames, he remembereth that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:13,14)
