‘Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they [also] which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.’ Revelation 1:7
While writing about Russell Nelson’s announcement at General Conference, I received an e-mail from Melissa asking if I had heard about the very same talk.
It was confirmation to both of us that we needed to point out some of the lies he told to warn people about the dangers in his message. There’s no doubt the narrative of Mr. Nelson’s talk was an exhaustive showcase of pious platitudes. However, for the sake of brevity, we’ve limited ourselves to just four of his lies. Our comments/questions are listed below.
Lie #1
…if there were no Book of Mormon, the promised gathering of Israel would not occur. …
Really? When I saw Mr. Nelson’s comment the first thing I thought of was Joseph Smith’s remark. Smith said that after collecting some white sand and tying it into his shirt, he told his neighbor, Peter Ingersoll, ‘I’ve got them fooled’. He was referring to the story he told his family that he had found a ‘Golden Bible’.
Besides all that, why would Mr. Nelson think God Almighty needed the BoM?
Lie #2
…Our safest insurance is to continue to be worthy of admission to His holy house. The greatest gift you could give to the Lord is to keep yourself unspotted from the world, worthy to attend His holy house. …
Wrong!!! Mankind is unable to keep himself/herself unspotted from the world, hence, the whole concept of Christianity… See Romans 3:23.
This is a glaring sign Mr. Nelson doesn’t rely on the efficacy of Christ, and here he is teaching others to do the same. Shame on him!
Lie #3
…He will govern from two world capitals: one in old Jerusalem (see Zechariah 14) and the other in the New Jerusalem “built upon the American continent” (Articles of Faith 1:10). From these centers He will direct the affairs of His Church and kingdom. …
Oh dear.
Did they tell the Lord about this? I would imagine He has a differing opinion on these things.
Lie #4
…We are to prepare for our own divine destiny: glory, immortality, and eternal lives (see Romans 2:7; Doctrine and Covenants 75:5).” — Russell Nelson
Since Mormonism teaches they’re immortal beings, why do they have to prepare for this? Furthermore, they also believe man is divine. Because of that, we have to ask what they’re preparing for if they’ve already attained this status? See Mormon Doctrine, p. 748 for info on definition of ‘soul’.
The flagrant falsehoods of Mr. Nelson were painfully obvious. We’re on our knees in prayer for Jesus to open the eyes of all Mormons!
To read his speech in full, see Liahona, ‘The Future of the Church: Preparing the World for the Savior’s Second Coming’, April 2020.

With Love in Christ;
