Genesis 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Mormon Doctrine, p. 122 “Creator … See CHRIST, CREATION, FATHER IN HEAVEN, WORD OF GOD. Both the Father and the Son bear the title, Creator… The creative work itself is actually done by the Son, as he is directed by and uses the power of the Father. Hence the scriptures speak of Christ as the Creator of this world and of worlds without number. (Moses 7:29; John 1:1-3; Col. 1:16-17; Heb. 1:1-3; D. & C. 38:1-4; 76:22-24.) In his creation of this earth he was assisted by Michael and other noble and great spirits…” — Bruce R. McConkie, 1966
Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 340 “…Jesus Christ, acting under the direction of God the Father, created this and other worlds to make possible the immortality and eternal life of human beings who already existed as spirit children…
This understanding differs from both scientific and traditional Christian accounts…while recognizing creation as organization of preexisting materials, and not as an ex nihilo event (creation from nothing). Furthermore, these accounts describe an active role for God’s spirit children in the Creation…” — Stephen Ricks, Kent Nielsen
Hebrews 1:1-3 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high”.
For just a moment today, stop and think about what it says in Genesis 1:1-2 – God’s Spirit moved upon the waters… The visual it produces commands a sense of majesty for us to stop, and wonder. God’s creative powers should always do this for His creation.
The word create is defined this way –
Dictionary.com “To cause to come into being, as something unique that would not naturally evolve or that is not made by ordinary processes”.
With the numerous false doctrines, and prophecies the Church has produced from its imagination, we can see how members of the Church are confused.
How can Jesus provide eternal life to something that’s already eternal?
Furthermore, why would they use biblical accounts of creation when they don’t believe it?
In a loving way, ask the Mormon you know what they think about this. I know that when I was LDS, the idea of evolution went along with the things I was taught at church.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
