Mormon Decisions 10Are you a follower or believer?

Example: I’m a believer in lots of things, but a follower of those things? Yeah…not so much.

On the flip side I’m a follower of Jesus and not just a believer. I’ve espoused His teachings into my daily life and have witnessed the effects of His transforming power at work. I’ve noticed how I’m not as impatient, more forgiving, etc…

Mormon Decisions 10I changed my mind – it’s not because I’m female  😉  – we were going to plow through the rest of these hieroglyphics today – but WordPress keeps messing up the graphics so we’re stuck with one or two at a time.  🙁

I keep coming across the same phrase in my bible studies or on the radio lately and it’s prompted me to think upon it more – eternity in heaven. In Revelation 21:4 we read John’s words that our tears will be no more. In the song Amazing Grace the phrase “when we’ve been there 10,000 years…” makes an appearance and these got me to thinking about those things compared to what we’ve looking at here.  Can you just imagine what it’d feel like day in and day out with this as your hope?

Mighty God and Sleeping One

Mormon Decisions 10In today’s dilemma we’re getting a 2-fer.  Figures 10-11 are found on the left side of the hypocephalus, placed upside down and translated incorrectly.  How’s that for a prophetic deliverance?

As I’ve been studying these things I’ve also been watching a series on the Military Channel of all things where they’ve aired several programs on Ancient Egypt.  Not surprisingly none of the expert’s opinions would agree with Smith’s analysis of these Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Netherworld

Mormon Decisions 10Today’s look at Joseph Smith’s translation makes me wonder if he wasn’t ready to tell his followers that his god was the god of the underworld.

Pray the Mormon will see these things and question what this means for him/her. Why would the Holy God of the Bible want you to be involved with a god of the underworld? How does this glorify Him?

Mormon god and Egyptian god Min

Mormon Decisions 10There are countless gods in Egyptian mythology who are representations of animals, nature, acts of men or simply ideas. It’s something most Westerners aren’t accustomed to in our monotheistic views of God.

The whole concept of Egyptian gods is to provide protection, wealth, revenge or  power. The majority of the gods inscribed upon the hypocephalus belonging to Smith had multiple natures and held the capability to morph into whatever god was needed at the time.

Four Corners of Earth or the Sons of Horus

Mormon Decisions 10While Joseph Smith was busy translating Egyptian hieroglyphs into the new Mormon word of God he was also busy prophesying to his group the end of the world was near. See D&C 104-105. This period of time in Mormonism was precarious indeed. There were lots of new prophecies of how some people would never die, how the world would soon come to an end and now Joseph was telling them God was speaking to them from the dust of the ground. Sadly for the Mormon people these prophecies also proved to be false as well.

Enish-go-on-dosh and Hathor

Mormon Decisions 10Part five in our series of Joseph Smith’s translation of Egyptian hieroglyphics is about magic cow goddesses. Joseph somehow thought this symbol was referring to the sun and the grand key of power.

After seeing the few translations that we have so far I’m left wondering what purpose his new fangled scriptures had for the Mormon people then and now. I don’t recall studying anything about the facsimiles while in Sunday school, Sacrament Meetings, LDS Seminary or Relief Society. Where is the hope for a Christian in Egyptian gods ?

Heavens Expanse and Sokar

Mormon Decisions 10Welcome to part 4 in our series! This time we’re looking at Joseph Smith’s translation of Egyptian hieroglyphs found in Facsimile 2 from the Book of Abraham.

Today we’ll see just how wrong Joseph’s translation skills were when he said this inscription meant the expanse of the heavens. What we know from the experts is that this is the evil Egyptian god of the underworld sometimes referred to as Sokar.

Mormon Priesthood and Horus-Ra (Horus-Re)

Mormon Decisions 10In part 3 of our series from the Book of Abraham we’re taking a look at Smith’s rendition of Egyptian hieroglyphics and comparing his handiwork with the experts. The hieroglyph showcased here today has a notable inscription you can also see on the Nauvoo temple; the Wedjat Eye, also called the Left Eye of Horus.

Oliblish and Amun

Mormon Decisions 10This is part 2 in our study of Facsimile 2 from the Book of Abraham!  We’re looking at the translation of Joseph Smith’s hypocephalus and comparing it with the translations of Egyptologists.

We’ve listed Smith’s translation first in black font and our findings second with red font.
