‘Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint.’ Proverbs 29:18

Today we’re looking at one verse in the Book of Mormon, and comparing it with what God has told us in His word.

Jacob 4:2 “But whatsoever things we write upon anything save it be upon plates must perish and vanish away.”

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

The importance of the travesty in this BoM verse shouldn’t go unnoticed for a few reasons. (more…)

Is the Book of Mormon True?

salt lake mormon temple 23 Nephi 8:1; “And now it came to pass that according to our record, and we know our record to be true…”

Mormon 9:31, 33; “Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him… 33 … if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record.”

Psalm 18:30; “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”

stickman thinking 3I’ve often wondered how many Mormons are familiar with the conversion story of the Apostle Paul. I wonder if they know he authored thirteen of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament (some credit him w/ Hebrews making it fourteen).

I wonder if they’re aware of who he was as Saul of Tarsus and who he became as Paul the Christian missionary.  I know that as a Mormon I’d never heard of him. I hadn’t spent the time to discover Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus, nor did I know he was beheaded in Rome for declaring the gospel.

No Pre-existence, God Created the Earth, His Spirit Indwells Believers in Book of Mormon

Alma 18:28, 34-36; “And Ammon said: This is God. And Ammon said unto him again: Believest thou that this Great Spirit, who is God, created all things which are in heaven and in the earth? 34 Ammon said unto him: I am a man; and man in the beginning was created after the image of God, and I am called by his Holy Spirit to teach these things unto this people, that they may be brought to a knowledge of that which is just and true; 35 And a portion of that Spirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me knowledge, and also power according to my faith and desires which are in God. 36 Now when Ammon had said these words, he began at the creation of the world, and also the creation of Adam, and told him all the things concerning the fall of man, and rehearsed and laid before him the records and the holy scriptures of the people, which had been spoken by the prophets, even down to the time that their father, Lehi, left Jerusalem.”

Yin–Yang

2 Nephi 2:11; “For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.”

Jews have Returned and Still don’t Believe Jesus

2 Nephi 10:7; “But behold, thus saith the Lord God: When the day cometh that they shall believe in me, that I am Christ, then have I covenanted with their fathers that they shall be restored in the flesh, upon the earth, unto the lands of their inheritance.”

American Continent Empty?

The Improvement Era, July 1940, Vol. 43, no. 7, pg 396; “The Lord took every precaution to see that nothing might interfere with this posterity of Joseph in working out their God-given destiny and the destiny of America. He provided, and so told Lehi at the very beginning of his settlement, that… it is wisdom that this land should be kept as yet from the knowledge of other nations… The Lord so kept the land for a thousand years after Lehi landed. He so kept it in His wisdom for another thousand years after the Nephites were destroyed, perhaps to give the Lamanitish branch another chance.” – J. Reuben Clark
