One important thing to keep in mind when understanding Mormon doctrine: pay attention to little details.

The Mormon Church teaches its members they’ll become kings and queens for God, but the Bible says no such thing.

Revelation 5:10 “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”

The Deseret News, Dec. 23, 1923 “Mary told the story most beautifully…Referring to the event, she said: “God hath done wonderful things unto me.” And the Holy Ghost came upon her, is the story, and she came into the presence of the highest. No man or woman can live in mortality and survive the presence of the Highest except by the sustaining power of the Holy Ghost. So it came upon her to prepare her for admittance into the divine presence, and the power of the Highest, who is the Father, was present, and overshadowed her, and that holy child that was born of her was called the Son of God…The power of creation…It is the most sacred and holy and divine function with which God has endowed man. Made holy, it is retained by the Father of us all, and in his exercise of that great and marvelous creative power and function he did not debase himself, nor debauch his daughter. Thus Christ became the literal Son of a divine Father, and no one else was worthy to be his father.” – Melvin J. Ballard (more…)

Melvin J. BallardSermons and Missionary Services of Melvin J. Ballard [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1949], 247; “The limitation given to Latter-day Saints at that time was, baptism for their dead whom they believe would have received the gospel. That is all. Now since we are not prepared to pass judgment on our dead ancestors whom we did not know, the Church has gone further and has permitted members of the Church to do the work for all their immediate ancestors unless they are murderers. There can be no work done for those who have committed murder.” – Bryant S. Hinckley

Blacks neutral in the pre-existence?  Maybe not…

Sermons and Missionary Services of Melvin J. Ballard, pgs. 247-248; “Now, my brothers and sisters, I would like you to understand that long before we were born into this earth we were tested and tried in our pre-existence, and the fact that of the thousands of children born today, a certain proportion of them went to the Hottentots of South Africa; thousands went to the Chinese mothers; thousands went to Negro mothers; thousands to beautiful white Latter-day Saint mothers: You cannot tell me that the entire group was just designated, marked, to go where they did, that they were men and women of equal opportunities. There are no infant spirits born. They had a being ages before they came into this life. They appear in infant bodies, but they were tested, proven souls. Therefore, I say to you that long before we came into this life all groups and races of men existed as they exist today. Like attracts like.

salt lake mormon temple 2Sermons and Missionary Services of Melvin J. Ballard, p. 205; “I think the revelations which Jesus Christ gave through the Prophet Joseph Smith concerning motherhood are the greatestMelvin J. Ballard contribution the world has ever received on this subject; for it was, so far as I know, never taught before in the history of the world that not only have we a Father in heaven, but we have a Mother there also. No matter to what heights God has attained or may attain, he does not stand alone; for side by side with him, in all her glory, a glory like unto his, stands a companion, the Mother of his children. For as we have a Father in heaven, so also we have a Mother there, a glorified, exalted, ennobled Mother. That is a startling doctrine, I recognize, to some folk, and yet we ought to be governed by reason in giving consideration to this doctrine which is a revelation from God.” – Bryant S. Hinckley

Giving Birth Brings Salvation

Mormon Decisions 10Sermons and Missionary Services of Melvin J. Ballard, comp. pgs. 203‑204; “The greatest mission of woman is to give life, earth‑life, through honorable marriage, to the waiting spirits, our Father’s spirit children who anxiously desire to come to dwell here in this mortal state. All the honor and glory that can come to men and women … is but a dim thing whose luster shall fade in comparison to the high honor, the eternal glory, the ever‑enduring happiness that shall come to the woman who fulfils the first great duty and mission that devolves upon her to become the mother of the sons and daughters of God.” – Melvin J. Ballard
