November 1 –16th Prophet: Smith Gave His Life for You. John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
_____
16th President of the Church — Thomas Spencer Monson — Served from 2008-2018
Question: Exactly what did Joseph’s death do for the Mormon people? Mr. Monson seemed to think Smith gave his life willingly for the sake of preserving the Mormon people.
Truth: Smith died after shooting and killing two other men during a gun battle while incarcerated in Carthage, IL. His death did nothing for the Mormons. It didn’t help their cause, and it didn’t take away the sins of anyone, nor did it provide salvation.
How can this be a representation of love for Mormons?

“…he gave his life; Willard Richards and John Taylor were spared. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” The Prophet Joseph Smith taught us love—by example.” — Thomas Monson, Ensign, Nov. 2005, p. 67
So giving his life in a gunfight is somehow beneficial to the LDS people? HAH!
Jesus went to his death willingly. Joseph Smith went to his death in a gunbattle, trying to protect himself. And they call him a Martyr. Parley Pratt was also said to have a martyr. Its only when you read in actual history books that you learn about the true nature of his death.
Oh well, to heck with what history and facts. Instead, when I am confronted with such trivial nonsense as facts and truth, I will pick up my latest copy of the Ensign magazine and look for the Words of President Russell M Nelson to steer me in the right direction. Makes perfect sense to me (LOL)
