‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.’ Matthew 5:14
Ensign, ‘Overcome Even as I Overcame’, May 1987 “To help us become true disciples, the Lord has given us prophets and scriptures to strengthen us…
Feasting upon the fulness of the gospel will help us to overcome. Additionally, if we will keep our covenants, the covenants will keep us spiritually safe. …
However, our collective light does not yet shine brightly enough to be “a standard for the nations” (D&C 115:5).”
The Church would grow much faster now, numerically and spiritually, if it were not for the wickedness of the world…
It would also grow much faster if you and I were better by taking up the Christian cross daily (see Luke 9:23) …
Ours will be a time of great inversion as well as perversion, as some will call good evil and evil good (see Isa. 5:20; 2 Ne. 15:20; D&C 64:16; 2 Ne. 2:5). …
Peace has already been taken from the earth (see D&C 1:35).
Nation will rise against nation (see Matt. 24:7). It will also be a time of hardening as the love of many waxes cold and iniquity abounds (see D&C 45:27).” — Neal Maxwell
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
I came across the talk above a few weeks ago, and was astounded at the number of things Mr. Maxwell said that were the direct opposite of what the Bible says.
Today we’re looking at a handful of his comments from this talk, and comparing them to God’s holy word. As a heads up, this is only a small portion of what Maxwell had to say at that General Conference. To read the article in full, see link above.
- To help us become true disciples, the Lord has given us prophets and scriptures to strengthen us…
Wrong. The Lord gave us Jesus, and His word that never changes. Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 40:8.
- Feasting upon the fulness of the gospel will help us to overcome. Additionally, if we will keep our covenants, the covenants will keep us spiritually safe.
Wrong. The Bible leads, and guides our path. Moreover, if you’re obeying a manmade law, why are you calling Jesus your redeemer? Taking such a stance means you’ve rejected the King! The Lord has already supplied us with everything we need to be spiritually safe. His Spirit resides inside of us when we call Him our Lord and God.
- However, our collective light does not yet shine brightly enough to be “a standard for the nations” (D&C 115:5).”
What happened to what Jesus said? ‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.’ Matthew 5:14
The Church is using this as a guilt-trip. If he’s so worried about their light not shining brightly enough, it’s probably because it’s not a light coming from the Lord.
- The Church would grow much faster now, numerically and spiritually, if it were not for the wickedness of the world…
God’s word says otherwise. Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Again, we see another way of manipulating, and guilting members to do more.
- It would also grow much faster if you and I were better by taking up the Christian cross daily (see Luke 9:23) …
Mormons have rejected that cross in every way imaginable. They don’t believe Jesus died there for their sins, but paid the price in Gethsemane. Furthermore, they don’t believe in what the Bible says, hence, their ‘restored gospel plan’. This talk was more about shaming members, than it was teaching them about Jesus.
Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
- Ours will be a time of great inversion as well as perversion, as some will call good evil and evil good (see Isa. 5:20; 2 Ne. 15:20; D&C 64:16; 2 Ne. 2:5). …
Yet, this is exactly what the Church has done! Moses 5:11 “And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.”
Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
- Peace has already been taken from the earth (see D&C 1:35).
WRONG!!! Here’s what Jesus said –
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
While the talk we’ve looked at today seems random, it’s been mentioned in other talks since then, and the false teachings he spoke of are basic Mormon doctrines today.
We pray you’ll be able to use the scriptures provided as a witnessing tool for the Mormon you know!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
You really don’t know anything about the real Gospel, neither does the mormons, and yet you claim you do. It is yet some time till you will do and regret and reform your ways. The Bible is really clear about the apostasy having taken place. But I promise you that I will return to you in due time, when the gospel is to be proclaimed. And that day will come…
Hello peterwehlin,
So I’m not sure if I understand your comment in it’s entirety, (it’s probably just me)…but, I totally agree with you that Mormons don’t know the true Gospel. There gospel is all over the place. They just throw the word gospel around. Seems everything mormonism is gospel…gospel principles, covenants, ordinances, truths… they’ll quote their 4th article of faith. And “the gospel topic essays” (which have nothing to do with the Biblical Gospel). So with that being said, I can promise you, that Michelle (the author of this), knows the True Biblical Gospel. As the Apostle Paul beautifully summarizes in 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4. It’s the only Gospel that saves, and the only one in which we stand. Also if anyone preaches anything different we are to reject it. Hope this helps. And thank you for your comment.
Melissa
I praise the name of the LORD. He opened my eyes. Years ago I would not have known what was wrong with the heresy coming out of the mouth of Maxwell. The devotion those ppl have to a church instead of the ONE who brought salvation is tragic. One ‘prophet’ says, ‘lets do a program called, I am a Mormon’ and another one comes along and says, ‘nope, no more Mormon. We are now LDS.’ In Christ alone!
