Book of Abraham Proven to be Fraudulent 50 Years Ago

TodayinMormonHistory.com; “– 50 years ago today – Nov 27,1967 — New York Metropolitan Museum of Art gives to LDS church the original Egyptian papyri upon which Joseph Smith based “Book of Abraham” in Pearl of Great Price. Scholars and church officials authenticate papyri as the same used by Smith. Apostle N. Eldon Tanner states the discovery of the papyri will finally prove Joseph Smith could translate ancient documents.

Unfortunately, Egyptologists, LDS and non-LDS, verify that these papyri are typical “Book of Breathings” in form and content.

Church officials begin repressing the story that the original papyri have been discovered and are in their possession. –– Quinn, D. Michael, The Mormon Hierarchy: Extensions of Power, Appendix 5, Selected Chronology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1848-1996.”

Life of Joseph the Prophet, pp 436-437; “ Adam The Patriarchal God of The Earth— … “The priesthood was first given to Adam; he obtained the first presidency, and held the keys of it from generation to generation. He obtained it in the creation, before the world was formed, as in Genesis 1:20, 26, 28. He had dominion given him over every living creature. He is Michael the archangel, spoken of in the Scriptures. Then to Noah, who is Gabriel. He stands next in authority to Adam in the priesthood. He was called of God to this office, and was the father of all living in his day, and to him was given the dominion. These men held keys first on earth and then in heaven. …

“The priesthood is an everlasting principle, and existed with God from eternity, and will to eternity, without beginning of days or end of years. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 256; “That which is wrong under one circumstance, may be, and often is, right under another. God said, ‘Thou shalt not kill’; at another time He said, ‘Thou shalt utterly destroy.’ This is the principle on which the government of heaven is conducted—by revelation adapted to the circumstances in which the children of the kingdom are placed. Whatever God requires is right, no matter what it is, although we may not see the reason thereof till long after the events transpire.” – 11 April 1842

How and Why The Wentworth Letter Exposes Joseph Smith’s Fraud

The Wentworth Letter is worth its weight in gold, if you will.

It provided proof Smith couldn’t possibly be the recipient of the revelations he purportedly received.

What’s so shocking about this is how the Church has deemed it ‘One of the choicest inspired documents ever written’. (Mormon Doctrine, p. 834.)

To summarize, the Wentworth Letter was written by Joe Smith as a response to a reporter/editor of the paper, Chicago Democrat. Mr. Wentworth had written to Smith asking for information about Mormonism on behalf of one of his friends, George Barstow.

What’s important to know about this letter is the date (there are other issues we’ll be addressing over the next few days).  Smith wrote about his experience of Moroni taking place in 1823.

The enemy is the evil one, the devil …who mixed his lies with Christ’s truths, until in time the pure gospel was not to be found on the earth.

This was the condition of the world for hundreds of years. Then the Lord wished to restore the true gospel and … moved upon Columbus to discover this land of America… and good men whom you have read about in your American history: Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, and many others. … and the Lord himself came from heaven, also his servants Moroni, Peter, James, and John to bring the glad tidings to all who live on the earth.

Then the Lord called some more servants …The first and greatest of these servants is known by the name of Joseph Smith, the Prophet.

“The words Jesus Christ spoke to Joseph Smith are called revelations. Some of these revelations were published in the Book of Commandments. While this book was being printed, people became angry with the Church members who had moved to their town. They threw the printing press into the street. Two sisters named Mary Elizabeth and Caroline Rollins gathered as many pages of the Book of Commandments as they could. They ran into a cornfield to hide from the angry men, and Heavenly Father kept them safe. The revelations in the Book of Commandments later became part of the Doctrine and Covenants.”

Even the Seagull Story is False!

Proverbs 10:9; “He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”

New Mormon History Database, May 27, 1848; “Today to our utter astonishment, the crickets came by millions, sweeping everything before them.” Seagulls, no strangers to settlers in small numbers, arrive in dense flocks to devour crickets but not in time to save whole fields from destruction.

Although published letter by First Presidency and LDS sermons refer to this event in non-miraculous terms for several years, anti-Mormon Warsaw Signal of 17 Nov. 1849 shows Mormons soon describe this experience as divine intervention:

“This year, as the story goes-the Lord sent immense numbers of gulls from the Lake, to devour the crickets. Seagulls descend during cricket infestations in 1849 and 1850, but apparently not until 1853 does general authority (Orson Hyde) publicly describe the 1848 Seagull visitation as miraculous. The “Miracle of the Seagulls” is now memorialized by statue on Salt Lake Temple Square and by adoption of seagull as Utah’s state bird.”

Magic, Mysticism, Joe Smith and Zohar

Acts 20:28-30; “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.”

Do you know what it is?

At Joseph Smith’s last General Conference, he delivered his infamous ‘King Follett Discourse’. This of course was the funeral sermon for one of their devoted members, King Follett, who passed away unexpectedly.

After giving the perfunctory condolences like at any funeral, Smith wasted no time introducing his true agenda to the growing group of followers. Polytheism. From that point on the entire belief structure of Mormonism was changed – again. This sermon, delivered on April 7, 1844, was a game changer for all things Mormon as it marched the Saints further down the road of total depravity in their self-induced apostasy.

Daniel 3:18; “…be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

Liahona, ‘Kirtland and the Word of Wisdom,’ July 2017; “While the early Saints lived in Kirtland, Ohio, the Lord told them to build a temple. (Read about what happened after the temple was dedicated in D&C 110.) The Lord also told Joseph Smith to start a school to teach Church leaders about the gospel. Many men at this school smoked or chewed tobacco. Joseph and Emma didn’t like the smoky, messy tobacco. When Joseph asked the Lord what to do about it, he received the revelation we now call the Word of Wisdom. You can read it in D&C 89.

Smith’s Tithing Complaints about Catholics and Christians are Smoke and Mirrors

2 Corinthians 9:7; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

It’s interesting how Joseph Smith dogged on the Catholic Church for their stance on tithing when he, and other LDS leaders have done the very same thing. Their comments beg the question:

Why?

Why did Smith say such things about Catholics and Protestants, while mandating the same principles on his own followers? We’re taking a look at what they’ve said over the years to paint a clear picture of when calling Christians and Catholics ‘the whore of Babylon’ actually began.

In the annals of LDS history lies a treasure trove of sermons the Church would love to have either disappear, or stay in the dark closet from which they were birthed. For the sake of truth, we’re pulling them from their dusty shelves as a grim reminder this church isn’t the family-oriented organization as seen on t.v.

How Mormons Lured Christians Away from a ‘Perverted’ Christianity

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures”.

byu_studiesIn all the years I’ve dealt with Mormonism, one important thing I’ve learned is that many crucial elements needed to take place in order for the Church to be where it is now. Our lesson today shows four key pieces of how this happened.

The other day I came upon an article that helped add to the dimension of how Mormonism came to be. The article, written by Gordon Irving, appeared in the 1973 BYU Studies papers, and to say it was revealing would be a gross understatement! Mr. Irving outlined four ‘polemic tools’ (as he phrased it) Mormons used to entice Christians away from the body of Christ.

Richard Bushman: Mormon Historical Narrative Not True

Richard BushmanWe’re sure it’s obvious to our readers, the Church is finding itself with their backs to the wall. When I began working in ministry with Ed Decker back in ‘94, he and I would pray for the day we’d see the Church imploding on itself. Just reading the history and doctrines of Mormonism, it only stands to reason their deceitful ways couldn’t last forever. As it is for Saints Alive and this ministry today, we now receive more e-mails from those leaving the Church than any other subject matter. PTL!

A couple of days ago we posted a story on how the Church goes out of its way to hide the truth about the Gospel Topics Essays. We retrieved the info from the Mormon Stories podcast site run by John Dehlin. While visiting his Facebook page the same day, I read an interesting post I believe everyone should know about; Mormons and non-Mormons alike.
