Ensign, July 1993, “A Treasured Testament,” p 61 “The details of this miraculous method of translation are still not fully known. Yet we do have a few precious insights. David Whitmer wrote: “Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing.

One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and not by any power of man.” (David Whitmer, An Address to All Believers in Christ, Richmond, Mo.: n.p., 1887, p. 12.)” – Russell M. Nelson

It’s well known the entire infrastructure of the LDS Church rests upon its claim of authority.

According to their claims, the body of Christ fell into a complete apostasy upon the death of the last living apostle of Christ c. 100 AD. Therefore, God needed to enact ‘plan b’, to get his body of believers up and running once again.

Since the time of Joseph Smith, each leader has taken a turn at providing colorful descriptions of Christianity’s dismal state, and the need of a restoration. After all, if the Christians hadn’t fallen into such state of disarray, there’d be no need for Mormonism.

Three Witnesses TestimonyWhenever someone examines the testimony of the three Book of Mormon witnesses, the first thought one might have is how it comes across as sounding very official with their use of the phrase, ‘be it known’.

In my personal experience with Mormonism, I elevated these men, making them superior to myself, and believed they were impeachable because of their supposed status.

Mormon Decisions 10Today we’re asking a few questions about the Book of Mormon witnesses! The BoM is the keystone of Mormonism and should be studied in-depth by those claiming that it’s the word of God.

Many times we’ve found that the majority of Mormons don’t know what’s in their beloved canon and have no idea the BoM doesn’t contain major doctrines of Mormonism. Making matters worse, they don’t have a solid understanding about the witnesses to the Book of Mormon.

Mormon Decisions 10History of the Church 3:228; “This poor man who professes to be much of a prophet, has no other dumb *** to ride but David Whitmer, to forbid his madness when he goes up to curse Israel; and this *** not being of the same kind as Balaam’s, therefore, the angel notwithstanding appeared unto him, yet he could not penetrate his understanding sufficiently, but that he prays out cursings instead of blessings. Poor ***!” – December 16, 1838

BoM Witnesses; Evil or Good?

salt lake mormon temple 2D&C 3:12-13; “And when thou deliveredst up that which God had given thee sight and power to translate, thou deliveredst up that which was sacred into the hands of a wicked man, 13 Who has set at naught the counsels of God, and has broken the most sacred promises which were made before God, and has depended upon his own judgment and boasted in his own wisdom.”
