Mystery of Blasphemies

John 17:3, 8 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”
The passage above comes from John’s gospel, and depicts what is known as ‘The High Priestly Prayer’.
It’s the longest prayer of Jesus, and is also referred to as the ‘Farewell Discourse’.
Most unfortunately, it’s the same passage (specifically, vs. 3) Brigham Young often used as an argument for his blasphemous Adam-God Theory.
With all this in mind, we’re looking at an infamous event in Mormonism where Brigham delivered a sermon on February 7, 1877 at the temple in St. George, Utah; ‘The Lecture at the Veil’. As you’ll see, the title of our article is a play on words of how Brigham referred to his ‘unique’ beliefs about God.
The reason why we’re referencing this is because of Young’s scurrilous interpretation of scripture, and the picture it painted regarding the Lord’s character. For many years his teachings were what Mormons were taught, and what they believed about God. (more…)

Brigham Young’s Teachings on Adam, p. 9 “In my doctrinal teachings I have taught many things not written in any book, ancient or modern. And yet, notwithstanding the many things I have told the people, I have never looked into the Bible, the Book of Mormon, or the Doctrine and Covenants, or any of our Church works to see whether they agreed with them or not. When I have spoken by the power of God and the Holy Ghost it is truth, it is scripture, and I have no fears but that it will agree with all that has been revealed in every particular.” — Deseret News, vol. 26, no. 18, 6 June 1877, 274, column 5, paragraph 2, discourse given by President Brigham Young, 25 May 1877, Logan, Utah, location not specified.

Hebrews 12:2; “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

“. . . when brother Pratt went back last fall, and published the Revelation concerning the plurality of wives; it was thought there was no other cat to let out. But allow me to tell you . . . you may expect an eternity of cats, that have not yet escaped from the bag … . Brigham Young, 1853”
Brigham’s words were an ominous warning of what was to come. This essay discloses some of the most blasphemous ideologies Brigham espoused, and passed on down to his followers. We’ve listed 11 key points of the article, followed by the pages from where we extracted the info. To read the article in full, click on link above.
The jury’s still out on which teaching he proclaimed was the worst. It’s a toss-up between Jesus being no different than Cain or Abel., Adam ‘decelestializing’ himself, or that Peter is Joseph Smith’s god. Ugh! It seems these men had far too much time on their hands…(Proverbs 16:27)

James 1:13; “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.”
A few days ago we looked at the Mormon’s version of the first man, Adam. See More LDS Contradictions about Adam, pt. 1. Today we’re finishing that up with a number of LDS quotes made by a variety of LDS leaders from Joe Smith, on down.
The one thing to keep in mind while looking over these quotes is God’s word. What would He want for us to know about Adam, and how does the Christian apply this to their daily walk with Him? Equally important, how do we share what we know with the Mormon people?

And just when you thought they couldn’t possibly come up with more…
Apparently not every Mormon leader was on board with the Adam-god theory. As we’ll see today, Mr. Romney’s understanding of Adam’s identity was no closer to truth than the theories of Brigham Young, or Heber C. Kimball.

Orson Pratt “Minutes of the Meeting of the Council of the Twelve in Historian’s Upper Room,” April 5, 1860, 10 a.m; “I have heard brother
Brigham say that Adam is the Father of our spirits, and he came here with his resurrected body, to fall for his own children; and I said to him, it leads to an endless number of falls, which leads to sorrow and death: that is revolting to my feelings, even if it were not sustained by revelation.”

Women of Mormondom, 179, 191; “Brightest among these spirits, and nearest in the circle to our Father and Mother in heaven (the Father being Adam), were Seth, Enoch, Noah and Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus Christ – indeed that glorious cohort of men and women, whose lives have left immortal records in the world’s history. … These are the sons and daughters of Adam–the Ancient of Days–the Father and God of the whole human family. These are the sons and daughters of Michael, who is Adam, the father of the spirits of all our race. These are the sons and daughters of Eve, the Mother of a world. What a practical Unitarianism is this! The Christ is not dragged from his heavenly estate, to be mere mortal, but mortals are lifted up to his celestial plane. He is still the God-Man; but he is one among many brethren who are also God-Men. Moreover, Jesus is one of a grand order of Saviours. Every world had its distinctive Saviour, and every dispensation its Christ. There is a glorious Masonic scheme among the Gods. The everlasting orders come down to us with their mystic and official names. The heavens and the earths have a grand leveling; not by pulling down celestial spheres, but by lifting up of mortal spheres.” – Edward Tullidge & Eliza R. Snow

Polytheism and Mormonism
Journal of Wilford Woodruff, April 10, 1852, as quoted by Wilford Woodruff; “Some have said that I was very presumptuous to say that Brother Brigham was my God and Savior. Brother Joseph was his God. The one that gave Joseph the keys of the Kingdom was his God, which was Peter. Jesus Christ was his God and the God and Father of Jesus Christ was Adam.” – Heber C. Kimball

Adam with Title of God
Evidences and Reconciliations, pg 67; “The Father called all spirits before Him at the creation of man, and organized them. He (Adam) is the head, and was told to multiply. The keys were first given to him, and by him to others. He will have to give an account of his stewardship, and they to him.””Adam holds the keys of the dispensation of the fulness of times; i.e. the dispensation of all the times [that] have been and will be revealed through him from the beginning to Christ, and from Christ to the end of dispensations that are going to be revealed.” …Certainly, under Christ, Adam stands at the head of the human race; as certainly, he will be blessed with the title God.” – John A.
