henry eyringGeneral Conference, ‘The Comforter,’ April 2015; “The burdens His faithful servants must carry in life are made lighter by His Atonement…You have seen such tests in the lives of good people you love. You have felt a desire to help them. There is a reason for your feeling of compassion for them.

You are a covenant member of the Church of Jesus Christ. A great change began in your heart when you came into the Church. You made a covenant, and you received a promise that began changing your very nature…

Mormon Decisions 10

General Conference, ‘Daughters in the Covenant,’ April 2014; “It is our free choice whether we make and keep those covenants. Only a few of His daughters have the opportunity in this life to even learn of those covenants. You are one of the favored few. You dear sisters, each of you is a daughter in the covenant.” – Henry B Erying

In the meantime I wanted to highlight a couple of the things I picked up on from comments made by the leadership that once again made me wonder why…

Why do they continue to lie?

Mormon Decisions 10New Era. ‘Truths Most Worth Knowing,’ August 2014; “This is what I have come to teach you who are in trouble. He will step in and solve the problem you cannot solve, but you have to pay the price. It does not come without doing that. He is a very kind ruler in the sense that He will always pay the price necessary, but He wants you to do what you should, even if it is painful.

I love the Lord, and I love the Father who sent Him. Our burdens of disappointment, sin, and guilt can be laid before Him, and on His generous terms, each item on the account can be marked “paid in full.” – Boyd K. Packer

Mormon Decisions 10Friend, ‘Abide with Me,’ August 2014; “The Savior loves us, and He invites us to be close to Him. He said, “Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my love” (D&C 6:20). I often feel the joy of coming closer to the Savior through simple acts of obedience to the commandments.” – Henry B. Erying

Mormon Decisions 10Faith of a Scientist, p 23; “A prophet is wonderful because he sometimes speaks for the Lord. This occurs on certain occasions when the Lord wills it. On other occasions, he speaks for himself, and one of the wonderful doctrines of the Church is that we don’t believe in the infallibility of any mortal.” – Apostle Henry Eyring

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, “Hearts Bound Together,” May 2005, 80; “When you were baptized, your ancestors looked down on you with hope. Perhaps after centuries, they rejoiced to see one of their descendants make a covenant to find them and to offer them freedom. In your reunion, you will see in their eyes either gratitude or terrible disappointment. Their hearts are bound to you. Their hope is in your hands. You will have more than your own strength as you choose to labor on to find them”. – Henry B. Eyring

Mormon Decisions 10Conference Report, Oct. 2003, pg 92; “The Three Witnesses never denied their testimony of the Book of Mormon. They could not because they knew it was true. They made sacrifices and faced difficulties beyond what most people ever know. Oliver Cowdery gave the same testimony about the divine origin of the Book of Mormon as he lay dying. But in the times of trial, they wavered in their faith that Joseph was still God’s prophet and that the only way to come unto the Savior was through His restored Church. That they continued to affirm what they saw and heard in that marvelous experience, during long periods of estrangement from the Church and from Joseph, makes their testimony more powerful.” – Apostle Henry B. Eyring

Receiving the Holy Ghost Again and Again and Again…

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, “True Friends”, May 2002, pg 26; “The words of confirmation into the Church are an invitation: “Receive the Holy Ghost.” And that choice must be made not once, but every day, every hour, every minute. Even when the Holy Ghost comes and inspires them what they should do, doing it or not is a choice. Even when they read the scriptures regularly, it takes a choice to “feast upon the words of Christ.” And even the feast is not nourishing without a choice to do what the words of Christ tell them to do. With faith and obedience practiced long enough, the Holy Ghost becomes a constant companion, our natures change, and endurance becomes certain.” – Apostle Henry B. Eyring

Mormon apostle Henry Erying gave the “First Presidency Message” for the Church this month (August 2013) and in his declaration I found an interesting item to take note of. The name of the article is “Recognize, Remember and Give Thanks”.
