“Sanctification Through Missionary Service,” Ensign, November 1981; “The words have come into my mind…They invite us to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him. This is done by serving Him with all of our heart, might, mind, and strength. If we do this, we receive a remission of our sins and become holy and without spot and may return to our Heavenly Father to dwell again with Him, to live the kind of life He lives. The Savior stands with His hands extended, offering us glorious blessings if we will serve Him.” – William R. Bradford

Sanctification
Journal of Discourses, 10:173; “I will put my own definition to the term sanctification, and say it consists in overcoming every sin and bringing all into subjection to the law of Christ. God has placed in us a pure spirit; when this reigns predominant, without let or hindrance, and triumphs over the flesh and rules and governs and controls as the Lord controls the heavens and the earth, this I call the blessing of sanctification” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 24, 1863
2 Thess. 2:13; “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.”
John 17:17; “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Perfection of Individuals and the Family
Is Sanctification through your works or the Spirit working in you?
Ensign, May 2010, pgs 9-10; “Every law and principle and power, every belief, every ordinance and ordination, every covenant, every sermon and every sacrament, every counsel and correction, the sealings, the calls, the releases, the service—all these have as their ultimate purpose the perfection of the individual and the family, for the Lord has said, ‘This is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man’ (Moses 1:39).” – Boyd K. Packer, The Power of the Priesthood

_____
In the Greek “sanctification” is hagiasmos. It means the state of purification. God, through the Holy Spirit, continues to sanctify us throughout our lives if we are willing to allow Him to refine us, but by no means are we able to do this on our own. Today’s Mormon reference not just insinuates, but outright teaches a false gospel that the Christian is responsible for their own sanctification process.
_____
“Sanctification is a state of saintliness, a state attained only by conformity to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. The plan of salvation is the system and means provided whereby men may sanctify their souls and thereby become worthy of a celestial inheritance.” Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 675.
