Book of Mormon Sailing to Promised Land Friend Magaziine Feb 2016Friend, ‘I Can Read the Book of Mormon,’ February 2016; “Sailing to the Promised Land Nephi built a ship so his family could travel to the promised land. Read about their journey on pages FJ4–6. In the promised land, the righteous people were called Nephites. The wicked people were called Lamanites.”

Stephen L. RichardsWhere Is Wisdom? p. 390; “…Intermarriage between members of these great racial divisions are possible, but the progeny are usually feeble, not long-lived, and of poor physical quality; and no permanent self-propagating, homogeneous races can be generated by such intermarriages. Hence these different classes of mankind amount in effect to a difference in species. … Then as regards language, there is a very important difference…The Negro languages are also simple and not adapted for conveying any but the simplest ideas and thoughts.” – Stephen L Richards, 1955

Mormon Decisions 10Comprehensive History of the Church, Vol.2, Ch.47, p.128; “This work is rich both in doctrine and in historical incidents. Of the latter the fact of the large influence (if not identity) of Egyptian religious ideas in Chaldea in the days of Abraham is established; the descent of the black race, Negro, from Cain, the first murderer; the preservation of that race through the flood by the wife of Ham–“Egyptus,” which in the Chaldean signifies “Egypt,” “which signifies that which is forbidden”–the descendants of “Egyptus” were cursed as pertaining to the priesthood–that is, they were barred from holding that divine power; the origin also of the Egyptians–these things, together with the account of Abraham migrating from Chaldea to Egypt, constitute the chief historical items that are contained in the book.”

Jane_Elizabeth_Manning_JamesToday we’re looking at a little known event in Mormon history, the story of Jane Elizabeth Manning James. Jane was a ‘free black’ who joined the Church in the late 1830’s and ended up crossing the plains with Brigham Young’s outfit.

This thought of the day came about after speaking with an uncle of mine earlier this week and our conversation regarding my great-grandmother’s ethnicity.

After we ended our call I began wondering once again why the Church would’ve allowed this side of my family into their exclusive priesthood back in the late 1800’s when they emigrated here. Half my family qualifies for the very Mormon coveted status of ‘white and delightsome’ and the other half…well, not so much.  They’re black Welsh.  Oops.

Michelle @ Teens for ChristThis topic has been the thorn in my side for as long as I can remember.  I prayed and repented countless times as a child for my so-called rejection of Jesus in the pre-existence. My coloring was a sure sign of early apostasy on my part and to say that shame ran deep would be an understatement.

Salt Lake Temple (2)Here we are again – the Church has had to come out and make another public statement that they’re not a racist organization.  I wonder…how many more times will they have to do this before they denounce their racist canon?

Martin Luther King jrAugust 28, 2013

When Martin Luther King’s speech took place fifty years ago today, I was four months shy of being born.  That doesn’t mean his words don’t carry as much weight for me or others not born in that era because they do! Reverend King’s speech has stood as a hallmark of all speeches – ever.

Racism in Mormon ChurchIn my quest to get things organized I created another research page.  I pray it’ll be of use and another easy access point for gathering the info you need.   We have a total of over 300 pages filled with roughly 2,800 articles on everything Mormon.   Remembering where I put every article is becoming more of an issue so I’m gathering by category and putting them on the sidebar.  I’ve been blessed with a good memory, but….

So hang a right over to the sidebar and look for the logo you see with this post and it’ll have all our info on this horrible problem in the Mormon Church or you can just access it here.

The past couple of years have proven themselves to be very busy here at LAM and not wanting the helpful articles and info people write in to share w/ us and our readers I’m aiming to take control of my chaotic mess!  😉  So check it out when you need a reference on racism in Mormonism and who said what, when.

AND, if you’re one of our beautiful authors, researchers, prayer partners or contributors – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!  We couldn’t do this without you!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

“Regardless of the color of our skin, of the shape of our eyes, of the language we speak, we all are sons and daughters of God and must reach out to one another with love and concern…Wherever we live we can be friendly neighbors.” – President Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign, May 2005

“All Are Alike Unto God” is the title of a speech given at BYU by the LDS Apostle Bruce McConkie in August of 1978.  The speech was given as an address to members of the Church to explain the recent change in Church membership requirements.  Yet oddly enough, neither the speech nor the prophecy really changed the heart of Mormonism.

By Lee B. Baker, Former Mormon Bishop

For several years now, every Tuesday evening I have had the great privilege of addressing the Christian and Mormon listeners of Worship FM 101.7 in Monrovia, the capital City of Liberia, West Africa.

I have come to know several of the station managers and a number of the more frequent callers to the weekly program.  Through their comments, questions and photographs, I have been genuinely moved to see the application of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

No  Priesthood for Cain until Abel has His Own Planet

The Church and the Negro, pg 48-49; “It was a great tragedy for Abel to be killed and thereby prevented from having any offspring. It is written that the blessings of exaltation consist in “the continuation of the family unit in eternity” and a “continuation of the seeds forever and ever.”  Abel was unrighteously kept from establishing any family ties or of being the progenitor of a great nation. The children that were to come to earth through the lineage of Abel had to be redirected through other lines. Abel was thus denied a tremendous blessing of having millions of spirits descending from him. Until Abel can have seed and until they have an opportunity of receiving the Priesthood, Cain’s descendants will not be allowed to have that Priesthood. Wilford Woodruff tells us, “…until the seed of Abel shall be redeemed…Cain shall not receive the priesthood, until the time of that (seed of Abel’s) redemption.

The obvious question is, “When will Abel’s seed be redeemed?” It will first of all be necessary that Abel marry, and then be resurrected, and ultimately exalted in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom so that he can have a continuation of his seed. It will then be necessary for Abel to create an earth for his spirit children to come to and experience mortality. These children will have to be “redeemed” or resurrected. After the resurrection or redemption of Abel’s seed, Cain’s descendants, the Negroes, will then be allowed to posses the Priesthood.”

Black Woman will be White in Heaven

Wilford Woodruff, His Life and Labors, pg 587; “There is one peculiar characteristic noticeable in the journal of Wilford Woodruff, it is that hopeful, joyful spirit that dwells with ever increasing satisfaction upon the things that are good and uplifting…He said in his journal of October, that year, that “Aunt Jane,” the colored sister, had been to see him. She was anxious to go through the Temple and receive the higher ordinances of the gospel. President Woodruff blessed her for her constant, never changing devotion to the gospel, but explained to her her disadvantages as one of the descendants of Cain. In after years when President Joseph F. Smith preached the funeral sermon of this same faithful woman he declared that she would in the resurrection attain the longings of her soul and become a white and beautiful person.”

Mark of Cain is a Black Skin, Blacks weren’t Valiant in Pre-existence

The Church and the Negro, John Lund,

pg 13; “On the subject of the mark of Cain our prophets have given all the important information that is necessary to our salvation. Frankly, sincerely, and somewhat abruptly, President Brigham Young has told us that the mark of Cain was a “black skin.” For the Latter-day Saint no further explanation is required. However, it is not necessary to rely on this single statement to arrive at the same conclusion. There are numerous references made by both ancient and modern prophets that point to the fact that Cain was the father of the race that became known as the Negroid…”

Mormon Leader Lies about Racist Past Behavior of Church

Ensign, Sept. 2000; “The cause of much of the strife and conflict in the world, racism is an offense against God and a toll in the devil’s hands. In common with other Christians, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regret the actions and statements of individuals who have been insensitive to the pain suffered by the victims of racism and ask God’s forgiveness for those guilty of this grievous sin. The sin of racism will be eliminated only when every human being treats all others with the dignity and respect each deserves as a beloved child of our Heavenly Father.

Forget Past Revelations about Race

The 2nd Annual Symposium on the Book of Mormon, All are Alike unto God; “There are statements in our literature by the early brethren which we have interpreted to mean that the Negroes would not receive the priesthood in mortality. I have said the same things, and people write me letters and say, “You said such and such, and how is it now that we do such and such?” And all I can say to that is that it is time disbelieving people repented and got in line and believed in a living, modern prophet. Forget everything that I have said, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whomsoever has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world…. We get our truth and our light line upon line and precept upon precept. We have now had added a new flood of intelligence and light on this particular subject, and it erases all the darkness and all the views and all the thoughts of the past. They don’t matter any more…. It doesn’t make a particle of difference what anybody ever said about the Negro matter before the first day of June of this year.” – Bruce McConkie, August 17-19, 1978

Other Reasons Why Negro Cannot Hold Priesthood

Answers to Gospel Questions 2:188; “Kindly see chapters 15 and 16, in The Way to Perfection, for further light in relation to the reason why the Negro cannot receive the priesthood. In brief, it is as follows: Because of transgression in the first estate which deprives him in this second estate. Since Cain slew his brother Abel in order to obtain all the rights of priesthood to descend through his lineage, the Lord decreed that the children of Cain should not have the privilege of bearing the priesthood until Abel had posterity who could have the priesthood and that will have to be in the far distant future. When this is accomplished on some other world, then the restrictions will be removed from the children of Cain who have been true in this “second” estate”.

Blacks are Cursed & Shouldn’t Intermarry

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 114; “… in a broad general sense, caste systems have their root and origin in the gospel itself, and when they operate according to the divine decree, the resultant restrictions and segregation are right and proper and have the approval of the Lord. To illustrate: Cain, Ham, and the whole negro race have been cursed with a black skin, the mark of Cain, so they can be identified as a caste apart, a people with whom the other descendants of Adam should not intermarry. (Gen. 4; Moses 5.)” – Apostle Bruce R. McConkie

1969 First Presidency Statement; “From the beginning of this dispensation, Joseph Smith and all succeeding presidents of the Church have taught that Negroes, while spirit children of a common Father, and the progeny of our earthly parents Adam and Eve, were not yet to receive the priesthood, for reasons which we believe are known to God, but which He has not made fully known to man.
