Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Jesus as the Only Begotten

Are We the Literal Spirit Children of God?

stickman thinking 3Conference Report, October 1854, Afternoon Meeting, pg 123-124; “We believe that he is our Father in heaven, literally; that we are his spirit offspring; that we dwelt with him in the pre-existent eternities, were taught by him, saw his face, knew of the terms and conditions that apply to the plan of salvation, and desired with an overwhelming longing that we, his spirit offspring, might progress to the state where we would have glorious bodies, and would attain the state of exaltation he then had.” – Bruce McConkie

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Wives Remarrying

If Mormons are married for all time and eternity in the Church why isn’t it considered adultery for a wife to remarry for time when her husband dies?

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Joseph Smith’s First Vision

Mormonism today is not what it was when Joseph Smith founded it. While the Church prides itself on receiving continuing revelation, there’s something to be said about being truthful in the process.

Several questions must arise in the minds of anyone with a vested interest of the Church and this goes for those contemplating the contradictory history of the Church to TBMs (True Blue Mormons).

Thought of the Day about Mormonism; Are You Kidding Me?

On the LDS Church’s Newsroom website I came across the following message and had to wonder why…

“Following the election of Pope Benedict XVI, the First Presidency issued the following statement:

“We join with men and women of goodwill everywhere in congratulating Cardinal Ratzinger on his election as Pope Benedict XVI.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism; If Christians are anti-Mormon, are Mormons anti-Christian?

I signed up for Google-Alerts a few years back so I could get a heads up on top Mormon issues every day.

Now every morning when I download e-mails I keep seeing reports throughout the world of “anti-Mormons” doing this or that and how they’re out to get those un-offending Mormon people.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism, Ministries,  and Abortion

Today I read with interest on the Salt Lake Tribune’s website some of the highlights from the LDS Conference that took place this past weekend (October 6-7, 2012).

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/55035771-78/church-mormons-faith-oaks.html.csp?page=1

The apostle Dallin Oaks urged members to stand up for what they believe in along with others who might not be of their own faith.

Thought of the Day about Mitt’s Mormonism and the Presidential Debate

Yesterday Melissa alerted me to something Mitt Romney said in the debate earlier this week.

Here in part is what Mr. Romney said;

“We’re a nation that believes that we’re all children of the same god and we care for those that have difficulties, those that are elderly and have problems and challenges, those that are disabled. We care for them.”

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Mormon Converts

This is a re-post and clarification of original article posted yesterday (Oct. 4, 2012)

Tonight while searching the net for a project I’m working on, I came across one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen in a long time.

While the Mormons are out touting the story that they’re just like everybody else here’s what they’re saying behind your backs as Christians.

Welcome to Mormonism my friend.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Stealing Wives

I’ve been working on another addition to Polygamous Leaders in Mormonism and began wondering about the validity of Joseph Smith’s prophetic calling from God.

Now if someone wants to claim they’ve found a new religion and a new god based upon what they believe is the way to heaven I really wouldn’t care if he or she says you need x amount of spouses to get to heaven or you need to do a certain amount of work. It’d make my heart sad they believe this and I’d want to share the truth with them, but really I wouldn’t be up in arms about it.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Gratitude or is it Gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Today I received an e-mail from the Church. A few years back I signed up to receive daily inspirational quotes from past and present LDS leaders and while they usually provide me with enough subject matters to witness to Mormons with, I thought I’d share this one with my readers.

There are times when we read the quotes of these leaders and have to wonder where they get their ideas from. Okay, okay I know it’s not the Lord, but I mean really, where do they get these ideas??? What is going on in those heads of theirs that opens their minds to some of this stuff?

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and ABC News 2

http://abcnews.go.com/US/mormonism-peek-inside-temple-rituals-family-life/story?id=17064900#.UDbdGPZmRAA

Unfortunately as I thought, part two of ABC News’ piece on the Mormon Church didn’t really do justice to what the true LDS Church is really like.  And to me this is disappointing because if I’m watching the news for truthful information I’d like to spend my precious time learning something new.

While I wasn’t expecting to be blown away I was hoping they would at least tell the truth about what Mormons really believe.  I’m not sure I understand why they didn’t ask them who they thought Jesus was or how many of the Mormon population is actually temple worthy.

I try to be fair – I really do!

But tonight I just  finished watching ABC News and their report on Mormonism. After a brief intro of how Joseph believed he saw the Father and the Son in a grove of trees, they posed three questions:

1. Why all the secrecy?

2. What do they believe?

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Mormon E-mails 2

After I got done with a meeting I had this afternoon I took a quick look at my post about the Mormon e-mail and realized I hadn’t included what I had intended to write to Shane – yikes!

I wrote Shane back and apologized. I got sidetracked and didn’t pay attention to what I was doing because I’m in a hurry today – ugh… I should never be in that big of a hurry!!!  So here’s the follow up and please, pray for him won’t you?

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Mormon E-mails

I receive quite a few e-mails from Christians and Mormons each day and I thought I’d use this one I received yesterday as an example of our work behind the scenes.

The reason I’m sharing this isn’t to humiliate or condemn this Mormon fellow, but to educate the Christian community of the response from a typical Mormon and how they process information that opposes their belief in God.

I’ve included my response and am waiting on his reply. Most Mormons won’t write back.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Cloak of being Saviors to Self

Ensign, August 2012; “May we ever remember that the mantle of membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not a cloak of comfort but rather a robe of responsibility. Our duty, in addition to saving ourselves, is to guide others to the celestial kingdom of God.” – Thomas Monson https://www.lds.org/ensign/2012/08/the-saviors-call-to-serve?lang=eng

Nephi and His Ship Building Expedition

1 Nephi 18:1; “And it came to pass that they did worship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious workmanship. And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship.”

Today I was wondering.  How did Nephi and company get enough timber to build a ship in Egypt or that part of the Middle East when timber was so difficult to come by? They were in a desert then just as it’s a desert now.  There were little to no trees.

Maybe God sprouted some trees in the area for Nephi? It’s curious indeed!

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Their History

One of my favorite blogs is Mormon History where you’ll find all kinds of good things! Knowing the real history of the Mormon Church will give you insight you never get from the Church itself.

Every day I receive an e-mail with a little notice of  what happened on “This day in Mormon history”. While perusing this awesome site I found one entry I thought would be insightful for my readers.  The following is a perfect example of what’s wrong with polygamy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the only reason why, but it just adds to the never ending pile of reasons.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Book of Mormon Authors

1 Nephi 1:3; “And I know that the record which I make is true; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge.”

The focus of this verse is on the author. I was thinking about a statement my pastor made a few years back about the authors of the Bible.

He said that half the Old Testament never gives clues about authorship.

So while thinking about my pastor’s statement and reading this verse in the Book of Mormon it caused me to wonder…

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Eating Raw Meat

Leviticus 7:26-27; “Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. 27 Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”

The two verses above are pretty clear wouldn’t you say?

So I would ask the Mormons what they’d have to say about the following two verses found in the Book of Mormon. They come from a story of the Nephites in their trek to America.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and People in America circa BC 545

2 Nephi 26:33; “…he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.”

Were there any slaves, heathens, and white or black people in the Americas in 545 BC? If not then why is this verse in the Book of Mormon?

And why is this in the Book of Mormon anyway?

They’ve plagiarized the Apostle Paul 600 years before he even said a very similar thing in Galatians 3:28!
