Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

As we approach Christmas Day, we believe it’s important for this ministry to loudly proclaim the whole reason for the season, as the saying goes! That said, over the next few days we’re looking at the basics of both Christianity, and Mormonism. Our topic:

Liahona, ‘Making Your Life a Soul-Stirring Journey of Personal Growth,’ December 2018 “It takes a special kind of faith to “believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom,” and then to be ready to accept them, whatever they are. … This isn’t about knowing the names of the twelve tribes of Israel or diagramming the allegory of the olives trees, as useful as such exercises may be. This kind of learning is about changing ourselves, about being different (better) because we know more of what God knows. … …as we learn His will, as we gather light and truth and make it part of us every day, that light will grow in us, “brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (D&C 50:24; emphasis added) when we can be with Him because we will be like Him.” — Jeffrey R. It seems we’ve focused much of our attention here at Life After on Jesus as of late! For us, that’s a good thing, and we’re praying as we embark upon the busy ‘holiday season’, Mormons will take a step back and hit the pause button to reflect upon who He is to them, and equally as important, who the Bible says He is!

Today we’re going back to the basics. I received an e-mail from a dear friend asking me if I could provide links to the resources in one of our articles. Because this is so heavy with references, we decided to post this as our article for today – along with the updates. Thanks go out to S. for making this request!

Our article my friend requested is ‘The Jesus of Mormonism’, and it comes from our ‘Foundation of Mormonism’ series. Here we go! (more…)

Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God.””

Today we’re looking at the Jesus of Mormonism, and the real Jesus found in the Bible.

The reason we’re doing this stems from a number of ‘coincidences’ that have taken place in the past week . One of those things was an e-mail I received from Melissa, and without her knowledge, it happened to be the same subject matter of our scheduled witnessing tip for today. In addition to those two things, I received an e-mail from a distraught Mormon telling me she just found out that Mormons believe God had sex with Mary to create Jesus. Oh be still my heart…

All those things combined, told us we need to remind people why the Jesus of Mormonism is not the same Jesus of the Bible! (more…)

Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 19-21 “Jesus Christ, the only perfect man who has lived on this earth, was perfect because He obeyed all the principles and ordinances of the Gospel… As a reward for the valiant work of the Son of Man, He shall eventually—when this earth is celestialized—become its God, King, and Ruler …and the God who will be directly responsible for the administration of those laws will be none other than the holy Man of Galilee.” – Milton Hunter, 1945 (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation 1:16; “WHEN TO USE TITLE: “THE CHRIST.” The name Christ is a title comparable to the title Messiah and meaning The Anointed One, and has reference to the office of our Savior. If the remarks of a speaker have reference to the nature and calling of our Lord in the office which he holds, then the definite article preceding the name is in perfect order. However, when we are speaking of the Redeemer in some other sense than by reference to his official title, it is well for us not to use the article, but the whole name of our Lord, or, even better still, in order to avoid the too frequent repetition, we can say our Redeemer or Savior or the Lord.

The great lesson for us to learn, in all our preaching, writing, and conversations, is to use the titles of Deity sparingly, not with familiarity, or with lack of reverence.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, 10th LDS Prophet, 1954

Isaiah 7:14; “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

With Easter right around the corner, we thought it’d be a good time to point out a few interpretations of His birth provided by the LDS Church compared to the word of God!

As you meet with your Mormon friends and loved ones in the upcoming glorious season, remember the following things are what Mormons believe about Him. Don’t pass up the opportunity to share the truth, and show with demonstrative examples what God says!

Who is Jesus?

We’re looking at the very basics of what God has revealed about His Son through His word, and comparing it with what Mormon leaders have always taught about Him. To be sure, the LDS references we’re looking at aren’t some obscure blips of info pulled from a dusty old shelf, rather, these are common teachings/doctrines of Mormonism all members will be able to recognize, and affirm, this is the god they worship.

Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

december-witnessing-tip-of-the-day-13 Doctrines of Salvation 1:133; “Are you aware that there are certain sins that man may commit for which the atoning blood of Christ does not avail? Do you not know, too, that this doctrine is taught in the Book of Mormon? And is not this further reason why you should discard the book as well as the name? Is it not safe for us to rely upon the scriptures for the solution of problems of this kind?” – Joseph Fielding Smith

‘Have we seen Christ’s star? Let us study to give him honour.’ – Matthew Henry

Matthew 2:11; “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”

Giotto_adoration-of-the-magi-260x262Today we’re looking at a couple of things about the gifts the three men from the east presented to the Messiah. This is something I’ve always wanted to study, and with the latest Mormon publication of the Liahona, it got me moving now!

As you’ll recall, the Mormon prophet invited Mormon children to follow Jesus through the maze of a labyrinth. How that had anything to do with Jesus is still a mystery to us here at the ministry…in the meantime, we decided to get this on the site to provide the truth as a rebuttal to that horrific platitude Mr. Monson offered.

Crucifixion PropheciesMy discovery of the real Jesus afforded me the opportunity to instill new traditions in my life while discarding the old.

I have to say, however, one of the biggest was learning about Holy Week. Thirty years in Mormonism hadn’t revealed any significant details leading up to Resurrection Day; thus my fascination twenty-two years later. I was saved on Palm Sunday 1993.

Inspired Scripture?

Book of Mormon; Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Ether 10:23; “And they did work in all manner of ore, and they did make gold, and silver, and iron, and brass, and all manner of metals; and they did dig it out of the earth; wherefore, they did cast up mighty heaps of earth to get ore, of gold, and of silver, and of iron, and of copper. And they did work all manner of fine work.”

As a Mormon I never related to Jesus on a personal level, but an impersonal one. By that I mean that anytime I referred to Him it was always “the Savior”, meaning He’s the savior of the world. I never thought of Him as being my Savior, as in He went to the cross to pay for my sins so that He could save me from the punishment I deserved.

Come to think of it I never called Him by His name either, but instead called Him “Christ”. Even when I left Mormonism I had a hard time breaking that habit, and it took me awhile before could call Him by His name, Jesus. And as for my prayer life, it never occurred to me that it was ok for me to pray to Him. Praying to Jesus isn’t something you do in the Mormon Church. Mormon prayers are always addressed to their “Heavenly Father”, and closed in the name of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the Only Way

By Melissa Grimes

I recently come upon this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley:

“Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth” (“Closing Remarks,” Ensign, November 2004, 105).

Jesus’ Promises Kept

I’m here today to let everyone know how intoxicated I am by being around those in the body of Christ.  I admit that I look at the church of Jesus Christ through rose colored glasses.  And I’ll be the first to admit that when I think of the Christian people it’s easy for me to overlook the flaws each denomination and individual person really has.  I am more inclined to treat them in the same manner a parent has for a favorite child.
