Christian Era

Mormon Doctrine p. 131 “See –>CHRIST, –>CHRISTIANITY. On the false assumption that Christianity had its beginning with our Lord’s mortal ministry, his birth was chosen to mark the beginning of the so-called Christian Era. Though there is considerable controversy and uncertainty among scholars of the world as to the actual year of Christ’s birth, the revelation given on the day the Church was organized in this dispensation apparently intends to convey the thought that he was born April 6, B.C. 1. (D. & C. 20:1.)” – Bruce McConkie

Don’t Use God’s Name too Much

Doctrines of Salvation 1:16 “WHEN TO USE TITLE: “THE CHRIST.” The name Christ is a title comparable to the title Messiah and meaning The Anointed One, and has reference to the office of our Savior. If the remarks of a speaker have reference to the nature and calling of our Lord in the office which he holds, then the definite article preceding the name is in perfect order. However, when we are speaking of the Redeemer in some other sense than by reference to his official title, it is well for us not to use the article, but the whole name of our Lord, or, even better still, in order to avoid the too frequent repetition, we can say our Redeemer or Savior or the Lord.

Bible Not Necessary

A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, p. 40 “…the everlasting gospel could not be discovered through reading the Bible alone… this is the only Christian church in the world that did not have to rely upon the Bible for its organization and government…if we had no Bible we would still have all the needed direction and information through the revelations of the Lord to his servants, the prophets in these latter days.” – LeGrand Richards

1 Corinthians 3:11 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

God was Resurrected

Doctrines of Salvation 1:76 “Now what is a spiritual body? It is one that is quickened by spirit and not by blood. Our Father in heaven and our Savior and all those who have passed through the resurrection have physical bodies of flesh and bones, but their bodies are quickened by spirit and not by blood, hence they are spiritual bodies and not blood bodies.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Self Reliant

Becoming Self-Reliant Spiritually and Physically

Ensign, March 2009 “To become self-reliant, a person must work. Work is physical, mental, or spiritual effort. It is a basic source of happiness, self-worth, and prosperity. Through work, people accomplish many good things in their lives. …

“As people become self-reliant, they are better prepared to endure adversities” and are “better able to care for others in need.” – By Elder M. Russell Ballard, Becoming Self-Reliant—Spiritually and Physically

Joseph’s Name Will Never Perish

Gospel Doctrine, p. 479 JOSEPH SMITH’S NAME WILL NEVER PERISH – God lives, and Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of the world. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God—living, not dead; for his name will never perish.” – Joseph F. Smith

Brigham’s Preference to Convert Devil Over Jews

Journal of Discourses 2:143 “Brother Ballantyne, and many of our brethren in distant lands write, “O, how we would rejoice to have the privilege of visiting our mountain home!” I would rather undertake to convert five thousand Lamanites, than to convert one of those poor miserable creatures whose fathers killed the Savior, and who say, “Amen to the deed,” to this day. Yea, I would rather undertake to convert the devil himself, if it were possible.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, December 3, 1854

Polygamy Removes Curse

Journal of Discourses 13:207 “I believe the correct practice of this principle will redeem woman from the effects of that curse—namely, “Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” All the evils connected with jealousy have their origin in this. It is natural for woman to cleave to man; it was pronounced upon her in the beginning, seemingly as a punishment. I believe the time will come when, by the practice of the virtuous principles which God has revealed, woman will be emancipated from that punishment and that feeling. Will she cease to love man? No, it is not necessary for her to cease to love.” – George Q. Cannon, October 9, 1869, Salt Lake City

Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

The LDS Church teaches there was a complete apostasy of Christianity and the church all but disappeared from the face of the earth. We’re wondering if that means all of the apostles apostatized as well…

How could there be a complete apostasy if the Mormon Church claims there were apostles that never died and are still here roaming the earth?

We’ve written about this before and we’re still waiting for someone from the Church to respond… six years after our initial query with the following set of questions, we’re still patiently waiting…  (more…)

Intelligent People in Darkness Rejecting Joseph

Journal of Discourses 8:223 “Every intelligent person under the heavens that does NOT, when informed, acknowledge that Joseph Smith, jun. is a Prophet of God, is in darkness, and is opposed to us and to Jesus and his kingdom on the earth. What do you suppose I think of them? They cannot conceive their own degradation.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 21, 1860

Polygamy: If it’s not True, Faith is in Vain

Journal of Discourses 21:296 “…if plurality of marriage is not true… then marriage for eternity is not true, and your faith is all vain… for as sure as one is true the other must be true. Amen” – Apostle Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 18, 1880

Mormon Dilemma 80

According to the LDS Church What is a Cult?

In Mormon Doctrine, pp. 174 & 699, Bruce McConkie defined a cult as “sects”.

Under the sects section it says;See APOSTASY, CHRISTIANITY, CREEDS, FIRST VISION, HARLOTS. Division and dissension, contention, confusion and discord — these are among the prevailing characteristics of the sects of Christendom.”

Today we’re taking another look at the self-proclaimed authority Joseph Smith bestowed upon himself. Above all things, don’t forget to pray for Jesus to open the eyes of Mormons who’ve fallen for the trickeries of Mr. Smith. The following article was originally published in 2015 and still a great tool to show how Smith had no authority at all.

How did Joseph Smith receive the authority to hold the keys of priesthood?

This question should be one of the most important questions to ask the Mormon people.  The LDS Church says that “priesthood is power” so this means they view themselves as the only authority to speak for and act in behalf of God.

I had the privilege of asking my dear friend Ed Decker to write a chapter in my mentoring handbook and so we’re answering our dilemma question today with Ed’s contribution!

Nameless Brother of Jared Sees Jesus 700 years Before Moses Sees God

The Improvement Era, Vol. 13, No. 1, November 1909, p 78 “More than seven hundred years before Moses was shown the things pertaining to this earth, another great prophet, known to us as the brother of Jared, was similarly favored by the Lord. He was even permitted to behold the spirit-body of the foreordained Savior, prior to His incarnation; and so like the body of a man was His spirit in form and appearance, that the prophet thought he was gazing upon a being of flesh and blood. He first saw the finger and then the entire body of the Lord— all in the spirit.”

True Meaning of Disciple

One glaring problem in the Church News Report below is timing. You’ll want to notice the date this was written. It was 1992. Why are they using the phrase ‘electronic media’? In 1993 only 1% of the info available on computers was available to the public. A Pew Report stated that only 3% of American households had signed on to the internet by 1995

While Mr. Asay busied himself with calling people deceitful, it’s odd he never applied the same terminology to himself.

LDS Church News, “’Anti-Christs’ Employ Similar Patterns of Deceit” “…When we read about the anti-Christs of former days, we marvel at how perverted their thinking became, and we marvel at how successful they were in deceiving men and women. We also wonder why some of the people were so gullible—so easily misled. And with all this marveling and wondering, we tend to niche the anti-Christs in some corner of ancient history and go about our unguarded ways. This is dangerous. It could result in loss of faith; and, in a spiritual sense, it could put us out of existence.”

Faith of a Scientist, p 23 “A prophet is wonderful because he sometimes speaks for the Lord. This occurs on certain occasions when the Lord wills it. On other occasions, he speaks for himself, and one of the wonderful doctrines of the Church is that we don’t believe in the infallibility of any mortal.” – Apostle Henry Eyring

“Joseph Smith as an Administrator,” Gary Dean Guthrie, Master’s Thesis, Brigham Young University, May 1969, p. 161 “Joseph tested the Saints to make sure their testimonies were of his religion and not of him as a personable leader Amasa Lyman, of the First Presidency, related:

‘Joseph Smith tried the faith of the Saints many times by his peculiarities. At one time, he had preached a powerful sermon on the Word of Wisdom, and immediately thereafter, he rode through the streets of Nauvoo smoking a cigar. Some of the brethren were tried as was Abraham of old.'”
