Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 9:142-143; “President Lincoln called out soldiers for three months, and was going to wipe the blot of secession from the escutcheon of the American Republic. The three months are gone, and the labour is scarcely begun. … they have begun to empty the earth, to cleanse the land, and prepare the way for the return of the Latter-day Saints to the centre Stake of Zion…. Will it be over in six months or in three years? No; it will take years and years, and will never cease until the work is accomplished. There may be seasons that the fire will appear to be extinguished, and the first you know it will break out in another portion, and all is on fire again, and it will spread and continue until the land is emptied.” Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 28, 1861

Mormon Decisions 10Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, Chapter 23; “The holy prophets have not only refused to follow erroneous human trends, but have pointed out these errors. No wonder the response to the prophets has not always been one of indifference. So often the prophets have been rejected because they first rejected the wrong ways of their own society.”

Mormon Decisions 10I discovered the following 6 point list of identifying false prophets on the web archived site for Biblical Discernment Ministries I  wanted to share it here because the points they made are great!

The only thing I’d add to their list is those who deny the cross.  I know, I know, I seem to hound on that subject matter! I still can’t get over how obvious this is though!

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000The name of this lesson is “Enlarge the Place of Thy Tent” and its purpose is to encourage members to strengthen the stakes of Zion and prepare for the Second Coming and the Millennium”. The lesson is based on Isaiah chapters 54-56 and 63-65.

We’re starting this overview much like we did a few lessons ago with the last question first.  I do this for you to keep it in mind as we glance over their questions. We’ll come back to this in a few minutes. We’re praying that you’ll use it as a witnessing tool when you speak with your Mormon friends and loved ones!

Mormon Decisions 10Waiting for World’s End: The Diaries of Wilford Woodruff, edited by Susan Staker, Signature Books, 1993, p. 305; “Again Presdet Young said Joseph the Prophet told me that the garden of Eden was in Jackson Co Missouri, & when Adam was driven out of the garden of Eden He went about 40 miles to the Place which we Named Adam Ondi Ahman, & there built an Altar of Stone & offered Sacrifize. That Altar remains to this day. I saw it as Adam left it as did many others, & through all the revolutions of the world that Altar had not been disturbed. Joseph also said that when the City of Enoch fled & was translated it was whare the gulf of Mexico now is. It left that gulf a body of water.” [sic] – Wilford Woodruff

Mormon Decisions 10Moses 1:41-42; “And in a day when the children of men shall esteem my words as naught and take many of them from the book which thou shalt write, behold, I will raise up another like unto thee; and they shall be had again among the children of men—among as many as shall believe.  42 (These words were spoken unto Moses in the mount, the name of which shall not be known among the children of men. And now they are spoken unto you. Show them not unto any except them that believe. Even so. Amen.)”

BoM3in1 Today we’re taking a look at what the Book of Mormon has to say about itself and the claims about its authenticity. We don’t have to go far before discovering a few brow raising verses that should give pause to anyone reading its contents.

Joseph Smith claimed the BoM was the most correct book on earth (History of the Church 4:461) and even today the Church wastes no opportunity to repeat his statement yet they never fail to give excuses as to why outsiders don’t share the same views.

Joseph’s Lie about Polygamy

salt lake mormon temple 2Joseph Smith preached a sermon in Nauvoo on May 26, 1844 denying polygamy –

History of the Church 6:410-411; “[William Law] has gone to Carthage and swore that I had told him that I was guilty of adultery. This spiritual wifeism! Why, a man dares not speak or wink, for fear of being accused of this….A man asked me whether the commandment was given that a man may have seven wives; and now [William Law] has charged me with adultery….I am innocent of all these charges, and you can bear witness of my innocence, for you know me yourselves…What a thing it is for a man to be accused of committing adultery, and having seven wives, when I can only find one. I am the same man, and as innocent as I was fourteen years ago; and I can prove them all perjurers.”

Salt Lake TempleWith bated breath (eye roll) we waited for the Salt Lake Tribune’s article to make its appearance giving us a synopsis of the talks presented at the semi-annual 183rd General Conference of the LDS Church.  So now that I have it in black and white I’m breaking this down to see for myself if the words of these Mormon leaders are 1. truthful and 2. umm…truthful.

Book of Mormon Metallurgy and Wishful Thinking

Mormon Decisions 10Mormons and Archaeology: An Outside View”, Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought (Summer 1973) pgs 40–48; “There is an inherent improbability in specific items that are mentioned in the Book of Mormon as having been brought to the New World by Jaredites and/or Nephites. Among these are the horse (extinct in the New World since about 7,000 B.C.), the chariot, wheat, barley, and metallurgy (true metallurgy based upon smelting and casting being no earlier in Mesoamerica than about 800 A.D.). The picture of this hemisphere between 2,000 B.C. and A.D. 421 presented in the book has little to do with the early Indian cultures as we know them, in spite of much wishful thinking.” – Michael D. Coe, Yale University

Lack of Scriptural Evidence Proves Jesus was a Polygamist

Mormon Decisions 10Jesus was Married, pg 103; “Without the evidence of ancient papyrus, the conclusiveness of the scriptures, or the light of new revelation, reason alone should convince the mind that Jesus was married. Believing in a Christ who lived a life without the personal feelings of a father toward his children or a husband for his wife, is nearly unimaginable. It requires a perverted Christianity to believe in a god without body, parts, or passions, and it also requires a similar superstition to believe in a lonely, secluded, celibate Christ.”

J. SmithGetting a grasp on who Joseph Smith was makes understanding Mormonism a bit easier. We pray looking at his life and rap sheet will open eyes to this manmade religion.

We’ve documented and written about Smith’s life from the time of his first vision to the day he died.  And then we looked in the Bible to learn what God thinks of writing new scriptures, polygamy, lying to the government, and digging for buried treasure and compared those things with Joseph Smith.  As we looked deeper into his story we saw all those things plus adultery, witchcraft, and Masonry.  Sadly, it seemed the list would never end.

You can access those articles here or over on the right sidebar there’s a new widget called “All about Joseph”!

salt lake mormon temple 2Abraham 3:11, 13; “Thus I, Abraham, talked with the Lord, face to face, as one man talketh with another; and he told me of the works which his hands had made; 13 And he said unto me: This is Shinehah, which is the sun. And he said unto me: Kokob, which is star. And he said unto me: Olea, which is the moon. And he said unto me: Kokaubeam, which signifies stars, or all the great lights, which were in the firmament of heaven.”

Dietary Laws

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 1584 “Word of Wisdom is the common title for a revelation that counsels Latter-day Saints on maintaining good health and is published as Doctrine and Covenants: section 89. The practice of abstaining from all forms of alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and tea, which may outwardly distinguish active Latter-day Saints more than any other practice, derives from this revelation.”

Mark 7:15 “There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.”

Prophets & the Law

Uchtdorf said. “That is why He pleads so earnestly with us through His prophets. Just as we want what is best for our loved ones, Heavenly Father wants what is best for us.””

Joseph Smith Sees Brigham Surrounded by Hostile Men of Color

salt lake mormon temple 2History of the Church 2:381; “Also, I saw Elder Brigham Young standing in a strange land, in the far south and west, in a desert place, upon a rock in the midst of about a dozen men of color, who appeared hostile. He was preaching to them in their own tongue, and the angel of God standing above his head with a drawn sword in his hand, protecting him, but he did not see it.”

Lies and Confusion in the Book of Mormon

Mormon Decisions 102 Nephi 25:5-8;

“5 Yea, and my soul delighteth in the words of Isaiah, for I came out from Jerusalem, and mine eyes hath beheld the things of the Jews, and I know that the Jews do understand the things of the prophets, and there is none other people that understand the things which were spoken unto the Jews like unto them, save it be that they are taught after the manner of the things of the Jews.”

If Adam & Eve Hadn’t Sinned Could They have had Children?

Mormon Decisions 102 Nephi 2:22-23; “And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end.  23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.”

Genesis 2:24, 3:23; “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh…Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.”
