The Seer, p.159 “One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus –– such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them and associated with them much…now it would be very natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were his wives.” – Orson Pratt, October 1853 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 2:285 “The Latter-day Saints that are now sitting before me, and those who inhabit this Territory, are here in fulfillment of prophecy. We inhabit these mountains because the ancient Prophets have predicted that such an event should take place, and we are fulfilling their predictions in this respect.
We believe in that sacred record called the Book of Mormon. Why? Because the ancient Prophets have predicted that such a book should be revealed in the latter times; and it has come… and we are the very people that are enjoying the fulfillment of those predictions.” – Orson Pratt, Great Salt Lake City, January 7, 1855 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 14:257 – 258; “These Greek and Hebrew manuscripts being transmitted from generation to generation, and transcribed and altered more or less, have fallen at length into the hands of the people of latter times in a state wherein they very much contradict each other. … I am astonished when I look at this Bible, to find it so correct; I am astonished, and it has been a mystery to me that it can be so correct with such an abundance of contradictions in the original manuscripts. As a general thing the meaning has not been altered much, but it has been altered sufficiently to produce all the confusion at present existing throughout Christendom.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 10, 1871

Journal of Discourses 13:63-64; “It was in the Garden of Eden that the devil, or one of those foul spirits, entered into a certain animal or beast, called a serpent, and came before our first parents and beguiled them, and they suffered themselves to partake of the forbidden fruit. If, then, they were in the earth as early as the Garden of Eden, no doubt, they have been here from that day to this, and that the earth is the place of their habitation. They wander to and fro in the earth seeking whom they may devour! Only think of a hundred devils to every being that now exists on the earth.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 19, 1869

Proverbs 10:9; “He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”
New Mormon History Database, May 27, 1848; “Today to our utter astonishment, the crickets came by millions, sweeping everything before them.” Seagulls, no strangers to settlers in small numbers, arrive in dense flocks to devour crickets but not in time to save whole fields from destruction.
Although published letter by First Presidency and LDS sermons refer to this event in non-miraculous terms for several years, anti-Mormon Warsaw Signal of 17 Nov. 1849 shows Mormons soon describe this experience as divine intervention:
“This year, as the story goes-the Lord sent immense numbers of gulls from the Lake, to devour the crickets. Seagulls descend during cricket infestations in 1849 and 1850, but apparently not until 1853 does general authority (Orson Hyde) publicly describe the 1848 Seagull visitation as miraculous. The “Miracle of the Seagulls” is now memorialized by statue on Salt Lake Temple Square and by adoption of seagull as Utah’s state bird.”
The Family of Mormon Gods

Journal of Discourses 1:57; “The Son is called God, and so is the Father, and in some places the Holy Ghost is called God. They are one in power, in wisdom, in knowledge, and in the inheritance of celestial glory; they are one in their works; they possess all things, and all things are subject to them; they act in unison; and if one has power to become the Father of spirits, so has another; if one God can propagate his species, and raise up spirits after his own image and likeness, and call them his sons and daughters, so can all other Gods that become like him, do the same thing; consequently, there will be many Fathers, and there will be many families, and many sons and daughters; and they will be the children of those glorified, celestial beings that are counted worthy to be Gods.” – Orson Pratt, Great Salt Lake City, August 29, 1852

The Mormon god’s Love for You Depends on Your Works

The Seer, p. 153; “God loves the children of men according to their works, or according to the good qualities which He perceives in them those who do the best he loves the best if they do equally well, He loves them equally.
Man should be exercised with the same principle; he should judge in righteousness of the good qualities and desires of his family, and should love those the best who do the best.
And if any of his family err, he should still love them the same as God loves his family, though they may sometimes err and go astray. God loves his family, not for their errors and sins, but because He sees that there are good qualities existing in them, and trys to save them from their sins; so man should love his wives, not because of their errors and imperfections, but because God has given them to him, and because they, in the main, desire to do right; therefore, he should love them and try to save them from their errors; and he should never love one. more than another, unless they merit it.” – Orson Pratt
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
You have to hand it to that Orson Pratt fellow. While 100% of his prophecies and theories on life were wrong, he was the only one in the Mormon hierarchy who actually came right out and said what everyone else already knew.
The Mormon god is only going to love and accept you with the same amount of effort you put out. If you find yourself coming up short in the patience department, so does he. If you’ve sinned more than you should have yesterday, you’re going to find yourself further down on the totem pole of acceptance today.
Question:
Why would an omnipotent, omniscient God only love people when they obey? Is this the type of god you want to worship? If you’re a parent, is this how you love your own children?

Matthew 24:23 “Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.”
Journal of Discourses 16:55-56; “On the 24th page, speaking of the coming forth of these records, the angel said to Nephi, “The book that thou beholdest is a record of the Jews, which contains the covenants of the Lord, which he hath made unto the house of Israel; and it also containeth many of the prophecies of the holy Prophets; and it is a record like unto the engravings which are upon the plates of brass, save there are not so many.” That is, there are not so many prophecies and revelations contained in the Jewish Bible of our day as there were upon the plates of brass. Nevertheless they contained the covenants of the Lord, which he has made with the House of Israel; therefore they are of great worth unto the children of men.” – Orson Pratt, Ogden, Utah, May 18, 1873

Journal of Discourses 21:201; “…not only all the children of men, of all generations, and of all ages, were created spiritually in heaven, but that fish and fowls, and beast, and all animated things, having life, were first made spiritual in heaven… … We are also told in this inspired translation, that these living trees which we behold—for God has given life unto all things—had their spiritual existence in heaven before their temporal existence; every herb and every tree, before it was planted out on the earth, that is, the spiritual part of it … that which gives power to the vegetable to bring forth fruit after its likeness—the spiritual part existed in heaven. …
…We read about the earth’s dying, and that it shall be quickened again. What is it that will make the earth die? It will be the withdrawing of the spiritual portion from it, that which gives it life— …
On the seventh day he began the temporal portion. There was not yet a man to till the ground, “and the gods formed man from the dust of the ground, and took his spirit—that is the man’s spirit—and put it into him and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul…” – Orson Pratt, Mount Pleasant, Utah, November 12, 1879

Isaiah 40:8; “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
As promised, here are some of the outrageous things LDS Authorities have said about various subject matters, and today we’re looking at how the Mormon Church regards the Holy Bible.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how these men arbitrarily make the comments they do, and not feel any shame. Whenever I read their blasphemous statements my mind goes back to when I was a child, and believing everything that came out of my leaders’ mouths. I distinctly recall being told time and again, to read my Bible, and trust in Jesus. I truly believed them and did just as they directed me to do!

Job 36:26; “Behold, God is great, and we know him not, Neither can the number of his years be searched out.”
1 John 1:5; “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
‘Work’ in any ministry entails a lot of reading, and the longer someone is a Christian, the more comfortable and knowledgeable, they’ll become with His word. You learn that He is predictable, trustworthy, able to withstand any onslaught of what might come His way.
In my personal walk with the Lord I’m acutely aware of the times I’m not studying enough, or spending enough time in private prayer, and I’ve learned that it’s like this for all Christians. As someone matures in their life with the Lord, it becomes clearly apparent when study, or prayer time is lacking. The Lord lets them know through a variety of ways that the relationship isn’t where it should, or could be. This is one of the joys of knowing Him!
While I will always love this ‘job’ the Lord has given to me, the longer I’m a Christian and in ministry, I’ve noticed lately the more it hurts my heart for the Lord to read the things people in the Mormon Church say about Him. I used to say all the time that I couldn’t be more shocked about something I had read, but I learned about 20 years ago to stop thinking such things.
And that brings us to where we’re at for today!
During my everyday, regular type of research over the past few weeks, I’ve come upon some off-the-wall, random descriptions LDS leaders have said about different topics, i.e., gods, polygamy, race, blood atonement, et al. In light of my findings, don’t be surprised in the next several days if you see some of the things we’ve found!
Today the subject matter is about the god Mormons choose to worship.

Journal of Discourses 17:225; “Now, if you want to get into darkness, brethren and sisters, begin to oppose this revelation. Sisters, you begin to say before your husbands, or husbands you begin to say before your wives, “I do not believe in the principle of polygamy, and I intend to instruct my children against it.” Oppose it in this way, and teach your children to do the same, and if you do not become as dark as midnight there is no truth in Mormonism.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1874
