Dictatorship

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 11:298; “The man whom God calls to dictate the affairs in the building of his Zion has the right to dictate about everything connected with the building of his Zion, yes even to the ribbons the women wear; and any person who denies it is ignorant.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 3, 1867

Jesus’ Gospel Law

Mormon Decisions 10The Mortal Messiah 3:125; “This gospel is that he [Jesus] came into the world to work out the infinite and eternal atonement; that he is God’s Son, the Promised Messiah; and that if men will believe in him and live his law they will be raised not alone in immortality but unto everlasting life in the Everlasting Presence.” – Bruce McConkie, LDS Apostle [emphasis mine]

Temple Clothing Regulations

Mormon Decisions 10Holy Temple, pg 72; “If you are going to the temple for the first time, counsel with your bishop. When he issues you a recommend he will explain something of the nature of the clothing that will be required in the temple. Obtaining this clothing need not be a worry to you. You can either buy it from a Relief Society Distribution Center or rent it at the temple. In the latter case a very modest fee is required which covers only the cost of laundering the clothing.” – Boyd K. Packer

“The greatest responsibility in this world that God has laid upon us is to seek after our dead.” Joseph Smith

Doing genealogy research is a hobby many people enjoy. It can be fun to see where your family came from and to get a glimpse into what the lives of your ancestors might have been like many years ago. Mormons enjoy doing genealogy research as well, but for them it’s moved past being just something to do for fun and into a full blown obsession.

Family history work is a vital part to the Mormons salvation, or so they believe. They believe it’s also an important tool God uses so they can assist Him in redeeming the dead.

salt lake mormon temple 2Liahona, November 2011; “My beloved young brothers and sisters, family history is not simply an interesting program or activity sponsored by the Church; rather, it is a vital part of the work of salvation and exaltation. You have been prepared for this day and to build up the kingdom of God. You are here upon the earth now to assist in this glorious work.”

Psalm 3:8 – Salvation belongs to the Lord.

The Mormon Church puts a huge burden on the members of the church to help redeem the dead and participate in the work of salvation as they share the Mormon gospel with others not of their faith. This burden is placed on their shoulders at a very young age as they prepare to be baptized and from there prepare to attend the temple as a young man or woman performing baptisms for the dead.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Facebook

stickman thinking 3Today Melissa sent me an e-mail with the picture that’s at the end of this article. She found it on the LDS’ Facebook page under other miscellaneous photos they provided for members to attach to their FB pages.

Melissa was telling me the first thing she thought of was how she couldn’t get the words “obey” and “law” out of her head. She said they make it sound like God is some sort of dictator and I couldn’t agree more!

Here’s the 2nd part of the e-mail from our Mormon friend Shane!  Remember to pray for him and the other Mormons who read this!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

1 Cor 1:18

Shane’s e-mail is in red font, my response is in black –

September 21–22, 1823. Joseph Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni. Moroni prophesied of coming events and told Joseph of the Book of Mormon record, written on plates of gold. The angel allowed Joseph to see the gold plates, which were buried in the nearby Hill Cumorah.

September 22, 1827. Joseph Smith received the gold plates from Moroni at the Hill Cumorah after having met with Moroni on 22 September of each of the previous four years.

Jesus’ Blood Cannot Cleanse Us

salt lake mormon temple 2Journal of Discourses 7:298; “Has Jesus done anything that will bring salvation to you and me? The chief of what he has done is that he has revealed the plan of the Gospel ‑‑ the scheme of human redemption, and manifested himself among his brethren; and we may say he has done a great deal more, for he has shed his blood for it. So have others shed their blood. But whose blood has cleansed you and me? It is said that the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sins. Then why is it that we remain sinners? It is simply because the blood of Jesus has not cleansed us from sin ‑‑ because it has not reached us.” – Amasa M. Lyman

Finding Peace

Mormon DilemmasJohn 14:26-27; “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

True to the Faith, pg 173; “Blessings from Attending the Temple – In addition to being a place where sacred priesthood ordinances are performed, the temple is a place of peace and revelation. When you are troubled or when crucial decisions weigh heavily on your mind, you may take your cares to the temple. There you can receive spiritual guidance.”

Salvation through Works

Third Article of Faith; “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel”

They apparently have a different interpretation for the word atonement. Pray that Jesus opens the mind of one Mormon today and wonder why this teaching contradicts itself.

Traditions of Men vs Commandment of God

“The Importance of the Family,” Ensign, May 2003, 42 “The Church has established two special times for families to be together. The first is centered around the proper observance of the Sabbath day. This is the time we are to attend our regular meetings together, study the life and teachings of the Savior and of the prophets. ‘Other appropriate Sunday activities include (1) writing personal and family journals, (2) holding family councils, (3) establishing and maintaining family organizations for the immediate and extended family, (4) personal interviews between parents and children, (5) writing to relatives and missionaries, (6) genealogy, (7) visiting relatives and those who are ill or lonely, (8) missionary work, (9) reading stories to children, and (10) singing Church hymns.’

Works for the Dead

“Welcome to Conference,” Ensign, Nov. 2009, 5; “I love the words of President Joseph F. Smith as he spoke of temple service and of the spirit world beyond mortality. Said he, ‘Through our efforts in their behalf their chains of bondage will fall from them, and the darkness surrounding them will clear away, that light may shine upon them and they shall hear in the spirit world of the work that has been done for them by their [people] here, and will rejoice with you in your performance of these duties’ (in Conference Report, Oct. 1916, 6).” – Thomas S. Monson

God Commanded Abraham to Practice Polygamy

D&C 132:34; “God commanded Abraham, and Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to wife. And why did she do it? Because this was the law; and from Hagar sprang many people. This, therefore, was fulfilling, among other things, the promises.”

Emma Damned

Journal of Discourses 17:159-160; “I want to say to my sisters that if you lift you heels against this revelation…you will go to hell, just as sure as you are living women. Emma took that revelation, supposing she had all there was; but Joseph had wisdom enough to take care of it…Said she—”Joseph, you promised me that revelation, and if you are a man of your word you will give it to me.”…She went to the fire-place and put it in, and put the candle under it and burnt it, and she thought that was the end of it, and she will be damned as sure as she is a living woman. Joseph used to say that he would have her hereafter, if he had to go to hell for her, and he will have to go to hell for her…” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, August 9, 1874

Do What Prophets Say; Even When Wrong it’s None of Your Business

Journal of Discourses 6:32; “…WAKE UP! WAKE UP, YE ELDERS OF ISRAEL, AND LIVE TO GOD and none else; and learn to do as you are told, both old and young: learn to do as you are told for the future. And when you are taking a position, if you do not know that you are right, do not take it—I mean independently. But if you are told by your leader to do a thing, do it. None of your business whether it is right or wrong.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, November 8, 1857

Salvation, None Outside of Mormonism

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 138; “There is no salvation outside this one true Church, the Church of Jesus Christ. There is one Christ, one Church, one gospel, one plan of salvation, one set of saving ordinances, one group of legal administrators, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism.” (Eph. 4:5.)”

It is to come together, roll up our sleeves, go to work, and build a bridge or a boat to cross the waters of our challenges.”—Dieter F. Uchtdorf
