April 30 – Ro. 10:9; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved”.

Remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus on the day of His crucifixion?  How much time do you suppose the thief had to do any good works?  According to Jesus Himself, the thief saw Jesus that very day in paradise because of the belief he had.

“I * * * * spoke to the people, showing them that to get salvation we must not only do some things, but everything which God has commanded”.  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 332.

False Prophecies of Joseph Smith

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 157; “How have we come at the Priesthood in the last days? It came down, down, in regular succession. Peter, James, and John had it given to them and they gave it to others. Christ is the Great High Priest; Adam next. Paul speaks of the Church coming to an innumerable company of angels—to God the Judge of all—the spirits of just men made perfect; to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant. (Hebrews 12:22-24.)

Exodus 25:10-16; “And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.  And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.  And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.  And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.  And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them. The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.  And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.”

Exodus 25:23-30; “Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.  And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.  And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.  And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that are on the four feet thereof. Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to bear the table.  And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.  And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.  And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.”

The last time we looked at the furniture of the temple we briefly read about the molten sea and the mercy seat.  In no way could I ever do justice to the full explanation of either of those two things let alone the latter, so I trust  it will prompt the reader to do more study!  Today we’re going to be looking at two other significant items; The Ark of the Covenant and The Table of Showbread.

Furniture of the Temple 1

The verses that I’ve chosen to focus on during this word study are: John 19:30; “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” And also Gal. 2:21; “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

When I was a Mormon I heard a lot about a book called The Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, who was prophet of the church. As a highly respected church leader, his words carried a lot of weight with the church members, leading many of my fellow Mormons to recommend this book to each other. It wasn’t until recently after I left the Mormon Church that I obtained a copy of the book and began reading over it. The things I read were heart wrenching, the gospel of grace is a wonderful and amazing gift, and unfortunately the Mormons have no understanding if it.

April 27 – Romans 3:23; “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.

God has told us throughout scripture that man’s heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, so even though that little toddler in the house looks really cute, beware because behind the cuteness, lies a wealth of selfishness!  They want you to themselves and in their minds they are the only one who is worthy of the blocks and dolls in the toy box.  Just imagine how convoluted our hearts become with age.  This is why it’s so important to always follow God by studying His word and have our minds upon Him.

The Trouble with the Book of Mormon

Despite 4,000 changes, Mormons maintain it is still the most correct book ever written – including the bible.

This article will cover many of the changes to the Book of Mormon illustrating the ever-evolving theology of the Mormon Church. We present the following evidence:

We felt that it was important to start with what Mormons say about a particular change rather than have us do that.

People have been writing in lately asking for a list of prophecies made by Joseph Smith.  While we do have an article on the false prophecies made by Church leaders, we haven’t yet compiled a database for all of Smith’s prophecies. That’s something we’ll have to look into!

Today we’d like to highlight just one of those prophecies and we’ll be doing so for the next couple of weeks so check back often!  😉

Who Voided the Atonement of Christ?

We received an e-mail from a member of the LDS Church who felt compelled to reply to our online newsletter he received last week.  I thought it was important to share this with our readers for two reasons.  First, to show the mindset of the Mormon and secondly, to ask the Mormon some serious questions.

Prophets, Prophecy and the Mormon Church

Why the ‘prophecy’ spoken by the Mormon Church is not from God

by Mark Grote

When we examine the behaviors of the Mormon Church, we must compare that which it practices with the examples set by those in the bible who followed God before us. In His ministry, the Lord Jesus said at times, “You have heard it said … “; then He would quote a verse from the Old “Testament. He would follow that by saying, “But I say to you” (Matthew 5). These new words brought change, a different understanding and new practice.

Unequally Yoked

Unequally Yoked     God is so good to us.  Just as a loving father takes his children by the hand to cross the street our Father in heaven tells us what is safe in life by providing us with His word.  All He ever wants is to love us and in so doing provides the way for us to be living life the way He intended for it to be.

I’ve dealt with families and their children on the issue of being unequally yoked since 1994.  It has never ceased to amaze me the lengths a parent will go to in order to keep their child from joining a cult like Mormonism.  The panic and grief in their hearts are a heavy burden indeed.  When I hear the pain in their voice I always wonder how God must feel.  Typically we see 5-6 new families a month with the same problem and the only things that differ in their stories are their names and place of residence.  For individual reasons (usually hormonal) the young Christian has decided their Mormon friend isn’t like the other 13 million Mormons in the world.  I can assure the reader, nothing could be further from the truth.

When I hear songs like the one above by Casting Crowns I can’t help but flash back to a time when my view of Jesus was very different from what it is today. As a Mormon the Jesus I believed in was my elder spirit brother, he was also a created being and the one we choose to follow in a pre-earth life and who atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Easter Essays

This had to be one of the most blessed and exciting Holy Week and Easter celebrations I’ve experienced since I was saved on Palm Sunday in 1993. I had the opportunity to mentor several brand new Christian ex-Mormons. It was completed in a hap-hazard way, but it gave me much insight for next year. The blessing was in seeing and witnessing via e-mail and phone how wonderful their lives are now that they are saved.
