Gospel Truth, p.324; “After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christiandom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They belong to Babylon.” – George Q. Cannon

bible 3After adjusting to the reality of what true Mormonism is really like, you’ll find each ex-Mormon will have his/her own list of discoveries that was the most shocking for them personally. I have my own ‘Top 10’, and as time goes on I can’t get over how blatant their lies are, especially about the Bible.

In the past few years the Church has decided they’d like to include themselves in the annual ‘International Day of the Bible’ celebrations. We pray the reason we’ve brought attention to the Church’s activities would be apparent to the body of Christ!

bruce mcconkieA few weeks ago I came upon a Bruce McConkie speech so outrageous it would cause anyone to wonder just what purpose it served other than to malign our Lord. We used a small quote from this in our Witnessing Tip of the Day post for May 27th.

Without belaboring this speech, we do want to take a closer look at what McConkie said back in ’75. The reason for this is because it gives the reader a better understanding on how Mormon traditions of mistrusting the Bible comes into play, and continues to fester from one generation to the next.

Isaiah 40:8; “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Bibles10As promised, here are some of the outrageous things LDS Authorities have said about various subject matters, and today we’re looking at how the Mormon Church regards the Holy Bible.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how these men arbitrarily make the comments they do, and not feel any shame. Whenever I read their blasphemous statements my mind goes back to when I was a child, and believing everything that came out of my leaders’ mouths. I distinctly recall being told time and again, to read my Bible, and trust in Jesus. I truly believed them and did just as they directed me to do!

Journals1Journal of Discourses 7:332-333; “…all the salvation you can obtain by means of those books alone is comparatively of little value. They contain a history of what other men have done, show the path they walked in, and the way in which they obtained the words of eternal life for themselves; but all the Scriptures from the days of Adam until now cannot, alone, save one individual.

The people called Christians are shrouded in ignorance, and read the Scriptures with darkened understandings.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 8, 1859

LDSWhat the Church Teaches about the Bible in 2016

“…In 1979, after years of careful work under the direction of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve, the Church salt lake mormon temple 2published a Latter-day Saint edition of the Bible. This edition of the Bible has the same text as the King James Version, but it includes special study aids, such as the Topical Guide, the Bible Dictionary, and footnotes referring to passages in other books of scripture and to excerpts from Joseph Smith’s translation of the Bible….

bible 3The Seer, p. 213; “..The Bible has been robbed of its plainness; many sacred books having been lost .. what few we have left,  were copied and re-copied so many times, that  it it is admitted that almost  every verse  has been corrupted  and mutilated to that degree  that scarcely any two of them read alike. .. all we have left are  mutilated copies containing an incredible number of contradictory readings.”

‘…The Songs of Solomon are not inspired writings…For some unknown reason the manuscript of the inspired translation contains no mention of the book of Ecclesiastes…Failure to include Ecclesiastes was probably an oversight…’

Song of Solomon Dead Sea ScrollEnsign, ‘I Have a Question,’ October 1973; “When the Prophet Joseph Smith intently studied the Bible and made his inspired translation, did he say anything concerning the various books of the Old Testament that would suggest either their special importance or lesser value?

A few weeks ago as I was running errands around town, I was listening to a sermon on the radio, and unfortunately I don’t recall who it was, so my apologies there! The pastor briefly mentioned something from the Bible that caught my attention, and I remembered enough to make a mental note of what he said in passing so I could investigate at a later date. Mind you, it was the second time in as many weeks I had heard the same info from different sources.

bible 3As promised I’m posting some of the categories in our quotes list that stick out to me and the Bible is one of those!

I’ve listed 20+ quotes from Mormon leaders who took time out of their day to malign and discredit God’s holy word. For the life of me I’ll never understand this one.

The Blind Leading the Blind

The Essential Brigham Young, p 90 “I think these preliminaries will satisfy me, and I feel prepared to take my text; it is the words of Jesus Christ, but where they are in the Bible I cannot tell you now, for I have not taken pains to look at them. I have had so much to do, that I have not read the Bible for many years. I used to be a Bible student; I used to read and study it, but did not understand the spirit and meaning of it; I knew well enough how it read.” – Brigham Young

Inspired Scripture?

Book of Mormon; Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Ether 10:23; “And they did work in all manner of ore, and they did make gold, and silver, and iron, and brass, and all manner of metals; and they did dig it out of the earth; wherefore, they did cast up mighty heaps of earth to get ore, of gold, and of silver, and of iron, and of copper. And they did work all manner of fine work.”

Trusting God’s Word

Doctrines of Salvation 1:32; “Our Savior was a God before he was born into this world, and he brought with him that same status when he came here. He was as much a God when he was born into the world as he was before.”

In this article we’ll be looking at two subject matters; the false prophecies in Mormon scripture about Jesus being God, and the reliability of the Bible.  While I know that sounds rather random, hang with me and you’ll see what I mean!

The Bible and the Book of Mormon 2

Welcome back to our series!  Just as we did in part one, we’re looking at the claims of the Church and comparing those with what God tells us in His word. This time we’ll be looking at the next section on the LDS site which focuses mainly on the Book of Mormon.  http://www.lds.org/topic/bible/

The Bible and the Book of Mormon

On the LDS website is an entire page dedicated to the subject of the relationship between the Bible and the Book of Mormon. We’re going to cut this up into 2-3 parts so it’s not so long.  The information they put on this site is very important and I truly believe it’s worth our time to search these things out to see what our Lord has to say about it – so here we go!

The Bible and Another Gospel

In the January 2011 edition of the Ensign I came across an article entitled “The Scriptures Teach and Testify of Jesus Christ”.

http://lds.org/ensign/2011/01/the-scriptures-teach-and-testify-of-jesus-christ?lang=eng

What I found interesting in this article is the manipulative way the Church goes about confusing its members.  At the onset of this article it says “The main purpose of the scriptures is to testify of Christ, helping us come unto Him and receive eternal life (see John 5:39).

A Simple Comparison…

Many people call us asking for help to witness to their loved ones.  We have a list of several insights we’ve posted on our site and blog here to aid in helping those who’ve been caught in the snares of Mormonism. In addition to the 20 helps we thought it’d be handy for our readers to also have a side-by-side comparison of the Bible, Book of Mormon and other LDS teachings.

Notice how the Mormon writings will both agree and contradict each other as well as the Bible. This is important to point out to your loved one when you have the opportunity to share the gospel with them.

Above all, know that we’re praying for you and would love to hear of your updates!

With Love in Christ, Michelle

The Bible:  Why Joseph Smith Hated the Word of God

bible 3  Throughout the annals of history we can see a number of people who have despised and maligned the word of God.  They’re kind of like missionaries, but with a twist.  One of the most memorable for me (Mormonism aside) is found in the Old Testament during the time of the Babylonian takeover of Jerusalem.  King Jehoiakim ordered the leaves containing the word of God to be burned in the fire at his summer home.  Jeremiah 36:20-26.
