Jude 24-25 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

byu-campus-hawaiiOn November 15th LDS Church Historian, Richard Bushman, spoke at a devotional for the BYU–Hawaii campus. His topic was, “What can we learn from the First Vision?”. A few of his comments were worthy enough to grab our attention so we’re taking a look at a few of them here!

Romans 12:1-2; “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

for-the-strength-of-the-youth-lesson-workbookThe times they are a changin’ as the saying goes, and for the Church nothing could be more true. One of their lesson books from the very ‘heart’ of Mormonism went through a revision I never thought I’d see in my lifetime.

This event quietly took place last week in the shadows of General Conference. No fanfare to speak of, no hoopla outside of articles in local papers, and a couple of nods on Facebook and blogs.

Acts 17:11; “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

“25 years ago today – Sep 27, 1991 – Elder Neal A. Maxwell, speaking at the FARMS annual banquet, tells his listeners,

The LDS Intellectual Community and Church Leadership: A Contemporary Chronology,” Dialogue, Vol.26, No.1; “Joseph [Smith] will go on being vindicated in the essential things associated with his prophetic mission. Many of you here, both now and in the future, will be part of that on-rolling vindication through your own articulation. There is no place in the Kingdom for unanchored brilliance.

2 Peter 2:1-2 “But there were false prophets also among the people…2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways…”

LDS Leaders Who Admit Church Doctrine Isn't TrueThe past few years has brought change to Mormonism. The one change receiving the most attention is seen when a leader admits some aspect of the Church isn’t true. The problem with their disingenuous attempt at transparency is the ever present habit of lying.

Time and again, the Church has missed the opportunity to throw open wide the doors of total honesty, and walk the highway of holiness as in Isaiah 35:8. They’ve chosen instead to meander down the same path they’re most familiar with; twisted half truths.

2015 Mormon Stat ReportOnce again, the Church published their annual stat report, and once again, we’re unsure of where they came up with the numbers. I’ll be the first to admit that my life skills don’t include being great at math. The Lord blessed me with the talent of playing musical instruments (piano, violin), and the love of history. The mechanical, and technical side of life just aren’t my forte. That said, even I was able to figure out the Church uses fuzzy math. Sigh…

Luke 2:30-32; “For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”

Every year Vancouver, BC hosts a Kristkindl Mart that my family and I try to attend. We start talking about it in August, synchronize our calendars, and by the time December rolls around we’re like little kids on Christmas Eve awaiting Santa’s arrival.

2014 Mount_HermonI came upon a tangled web of lies produced by the Church that I had no idea existed. So today we’re taking a look at events that took place at the transfiguration and comparing the Bible with what the LDS Church has to say about it.

I’m certain this won’t be the last discovery on Mormon history I find, but what it does right now is add to the long list of reasons why I am beyond grateful the good Lord plucked me out of my nightmare.  Thank You Jesus!

BordersI promised myself not to get involved in watching national news because I get a tad bit emotional…and then I broke my own promise.

After forgiving John Kerry’s comment when he said America isn’t exceptional, I’m having second thoughts on trying to keep my reactions in check.  So I did it – I started talking back to my television set again.  I promised I’d stop doing that even though no one ever knew, and I watched an entire national news show. Bad idea, bad, bad, bad.  My heart rate goes up, my productivity for work goes down and then I have to repent…

While we’ve been busy at the ministry there’s also a lot that’s been going on in the private lives at LAM!

Some good things, some not so good things and everything in between.  Wow!

And then out of the blue I received a surprise phone call at 9:30 pm last Sunday evening that surprised even me.

Salt Lake TempleThe founder of ‘Ordain Women’ found herself in the cross-hairs of the Mormon Church’s behavior police yesterday, June 22, 2014.

Kate Kelly was notified via e-mail that she’d been axed from the Church roles because of her outspoken opinion of how women are treated in the LDS Church.  Ironically, we had just posted our daily Mormon Dilemmas and it was on ‘Unquestioning Obedience’.

Salt Lake TempleThe UK Telegraph just released a report about a lawsuit the Mormon Church has been engaged in for almost a decade now.  The Church took their complaint all the way to the European court on the basis of their human rights being violated and the disagreement ended as of 4 March 2014.

Salt Lake TempleThe other day while reading the front page of lds.org I came upon an interesting article.  On the sidebar the Church asked the question; “Are Mormons Christian?” and of course this caught my immediate attention!

Every Christian ministry for Mormons has explored this topic, LAM included, but we believe it’s important to keep abreast with the Church’s newest tactics so we’re taking a look at their latest explanation of why they believe they’re Christians.

Salt Lake Temple (2)No matter where you go during the holiday season you’re sure to encounter banners or signs with the phrase “peace on earth”.  I’ve often wondered about that phrase and while I know I’m probably going against the grain, let me explain why I believe this phrase is misunderstood by many of the people who use it.

Salt Lake Temple (2)Today I came across an article in the LDS Meridian Magazine that was so full of errors – okay, lies – that I found it astounding the Church would try to pull off what they’re proposing this time.  While their propaganda is nothing new it’s always surprising to me how they continue to spin the same story with new graphics or an added great feat of Joseph.

What? Are you kidding me?  That was my first reaction when I read the headlines screaming across the page I read in the Salt Lake Trib

As we write articles and share the gospel online and elsewhere this is one of the reasons we do what we do at LAM.

The body of Christ needs to wake up and pay attention.  I’m not sure who it was that cast the final vote for the status of “National Bible City”, but we’re on our knees they’ll rescind their generous gift.

bruce mcconkieWhen LDS Apostle Bruce McConkie gave a Fireside Speech in June 1980 he named it “The Seven Deadly Heresies”, His message was a warning to members of the Church to refrain from believing in some of the teachings that were made popular by past prophets.

I’ve often wondered if he thought that his words would carry a significant message far into the future.

D. Todd ChristoffersonThis past September one of the twelve apostles delivered a devotional speech at BYU which was the first of a three pronged effort to brace members of what they may find “questionable” information in the release of the Joseph Smith Papers. The papers are a seven volume work on the history of the Church that many people didn’t have access to before and much of what people will see might be non-“faith promoting” information.

I saw an article stating the Church just bought 2% of Florida this week.  Owning 400,000 acres of private property makes them the largest private land owner in the state. The Church didn’t say much about it, but the affiliate’s website, AgReserve, has a quote on its front page from the late Mormon prophet Gordon Hinckley stating “a safe investment where the assets of the church may be preserved and enhanced, while at the same time they are available as an agricultural resource to feed people should there come a time of need”.

As I was reading over the various threads on the Mormon discussion board of a popular Christian ministry site I noticed one titled “Just what’s so bad about the LDS Church anyway?”

In her opinion post she lists many attributes the church has, as well as the many benefits she believes comes from membership in the Mormon Church. I believe she gives a perfect example of the mindset many, if not all Mormons have about their religion, and is worthy of exploration. In this article I would like to take her comments one point at a time, and give an alternative point of view.
