September 15 — 4 Reasons to Reject LDS Restoration Claims. There are a number of reasons faithful members of the LDS Church should question Joseph Smith’s first vision. His so-called chance meeting with God, and Jesus in human form while praying in the ‘sacred grove’ raises many questions. Today we’re looking at a few of those.

By no means is this an exhaustive look at Mormonism. The topics listed simply come from questions/comments on our FB page, and LAM blogs.

In all sincerity, we pray Mormons will think about the following contradictions and reject what their church is doing…

Reason to Reject #1 — LDS Hymns (more…)

September 14 – LDS Shameless Contempt for God’s Priesthood. Galatians 1:6-8 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (more…)

The Articles of Faith, p. 178 “There is an entire absence of scriptural sanction for giving the sacrament to any who are not members in full fellowship in the Church of Christ. Christ administered the ordinance on the eastern continent to His apostles only; and we have record of their giving it to those only who had assumed the name of Christ. Amongst His western fold, Christ established the law that only the actual members of His Church should partake.

In promising to ordain one among them with power to officiate in the sacrament, the Savior specified that the one so chosen should give it unto the people of His Church, unto all those who believed and were baptized in His name.” Only those indeed who had been so baptized were called the Church of Christ. Continuing His instructions to the disciples concerning the sacrament, the Savior said: “This shall ye always do to those who repent and are baptized in my name.” — James Talmage (more…)

‘No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.’ Matthew 6:24

September 11 — Blood of Jesus not Efficient. Journal of Discourses 7:299 “We may talk of men being redeemed by the efficacy of his [Christ’s] blood; but the truth is that that blood has no efficacy to wash away our sins. That must depend upon our own action.” – Amasa M. Lyman, Salt Lake City, December 25, 1859 (more…)

‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’ Acts 4:12

September 10 — Do as You’re Told and Follow the Prophet. Journal of Discourses 4:3 “My feelings are for you to learn to follow our leader, our Prophet, our President. He will be our President in eternity, and Joseph is his President and will counsel him, and you need not trouble yourselves, but do as you are told and you will obtain salvation and go into the celestial glory…You have got to be organized and disciplined by the Priesthood, and you have got to stick to that organization, for you cannot be saved with a celestial glory unless you are saved by this Priesthood.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, June 29, 1856 (more…)

September 9 — Jesus a Polygamist and Founder of Christianity. The Seer, p. 172 “…the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a polygamist…marrying many honorable wives himself…God the Father had a plurality of wives…the Son followed the example of his Father…both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time.” – Orson Pratt, 1857 (more…)

September 8 — LDS Contradictions: Hell Doesn’t Exist. Joseph Smith-Seeker After Truth, pp. 177-178 “The meanest sinner will find some place in the heavenly realm…In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is no Hell. All will find a measure of salvation.” — John A. Widtsoe [See The Vision of the Degrees of Glory D&C 76:89-106 that uses the phrase ‘…the meanest sinner’…] (more…)

September 7 — Why didn’t Israelites Know about the Nephites? 3 Nephi 15:19-21 “But, verily, I say unto you that the Father hath commanded me, and I tell it unto you, that ye were separated from among them because of their iniquity; therefore it is because of their iniquity that they know not of you. 20 And verily, I say unto you again that the other tribes hath the Father separated from them; and it is because of their iniquity that they know not of them. 21 And verily I say unto you, that ye are they of whom I said: Other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (more…)

September 6 — No Forgiveness for Thief on the Cross. Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 164 “Another mistaken idea is that the thief on the cross was forgiven of his sins when the dying Christ answered: “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43.) These men on the cross were thieves. How could the Lord forgive a malefactor? They had broken laws. There was no doubt of the guilt of the two men, for the one voluntarily confessed their guilt. The Lord cannot save men in their sins but only from their sins, and that only when they have shown true repentance.” (more…)

September 5 — Leaving Mormonism Means Losing Family. Journal of Discourses 4:165 “A motion has been put, and unanimously carried, that John Hyde be cut off root and branch, that is, himself and all the roots and branches that are within him; this has no allusion to his family. He has taken a course by which he has lost his family and forfeited his Priesthood; he has forfeited his membership. The limb is cut off, but the Priesthood takes the fruit that was attached to the limb and saves it, if it will be saved. Do you understand me?

His wife is not cut off from this Church, but she is free from him; she is just as free from him as though she never had belonged to him. The limb she was connected to is cut off, and she must again be grafted into the tree, if she wishes to be saved; that is all about it.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, January 11, 1857 (more…)

‘These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.’ —  Acts 17:11

September 4 — LDS Prophet is Sole Mouthpiece for God. Follow the Living Prophets, p. 40 “Here we must have in mind-must know-that only the President of the Church, the Presiding High Priest, is sustained as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator for the Church, and he alone has the right to receive revelations for the Church, either new or amendatory, or to give authoritative interpretations of scriptures that shall be binding on the Church, or change in any way the existing doctrines of the Church. He is God’s sole mouthpiece on earth for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the only true church. He alone may declare the mind and will of God to his people. No officer of any other church in the world has this high right and lofty prerogative. So when any other person, irrespective of who he is, undertakes to do any of these things, you may know he is not “moved upon by the Holy Ghost” in so speaking unless he has special authorization from the President of the Church. (“When Are Church Leaders’ Words Entitled to Claim of Scripture?” p. 10.)” – Walter D. Bowen, Brent L. Top, Larry E. Dahl (more…)

September 3 — Privileged White Mormons. Mormonism, Mama & Me, 1986, pp. 24‑25 “As a white Mormon, I proudly accepted the teaching that my fair skin and Mormon parentage signified that I had been one of God’s most intelligent and obedient born‑in‑heaven spirit children…. As a reward for my superior attributes and attitudes, I had been singled out, trained, and qualified to be born a white Latter‑day Saint, deserving of emulation, adulation, and eventual deification. All dark‑skinned people, even darker‑complexioned Caucasians… had been inferior spirits in heaven.” – Thelma “Granny” Geer (more…)
