Mormon Decisions 10Words of Joseph Smith, p 84 “”President [Brigham Young] gave it as his opinion that the Earth did not dwell in the sphere in which it did when it was created, but that it was banished from its more glorious state or orbit of revolution for man’s sake” (“Record of Acts of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles,” 1849 Record Book, p. 41, Church Archives). This and other statements like it probably had their origin with teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.” – Compiled and edited by Andrew F. Ehat & Lyndon W. Cook, BYU Religious Studies Center, 1980

salt lake mormon temple 2Mortal Messiah 1:29; “How long did Adam and Abraham and Jeremiah (and all men!) spend in preparing to take the test of a mortal probation? What ages and eons and eternities passed away while Christ dwelt in the Eternal Presence and did the work then assigned him? How can we measure infinite duration in finite terms? To such questions we have no definitive answers. Suffice it to say, the passage of time was infinite from man’s viewpoint. We have an authentic account, which can be accepted as true, that life has been going on in this system for almost 2,555,000,000 years. Presumably this system is the universe (or whatever scientific term is applicable) created by the Father through the instrumentality of the Son.” – Bruce McConkie

salt lake mormon temple 2The transcript below comes from classroom notes and discussions at BYU. The professor, Dr. Marcus Martins, was discussing the creation of the earth with his students. He used several different sources of information such as diaries, newspapers and sermons all provided by the Church. The last three paragraphs of his notes were taken from a section of the LDS owned church publication, The Millennial Star. The topic was on the creation of the earth.

How was Earth Created?

salt lake mormon temple 2Jacob 4:9; “For behold, by the power of his word man came upon the face of the earth, which earth was created by the power of his word. Wherefore, if God being able to speak and the world was, and to speak and man was created, O then, why not able to command the earth, or the workmanship of his hands upon the face of it, according to his will and pleasure?”

Plan of Salvation: Men Appointed to Die

Mormon Decisions 10Alma 42:5-6; “For behold, if Adam had put forth his hand immediately, and partaken of the tree of life, he would have lived forever, according to the word of God, having no space for repentance; yea, and also the word of God would have been void, and the great plan of salvation would have been frustrated. 6 But behold, it was appointed unto man to die—therefore, as they were cut off from the tree of life they should be cut off from the face of the earth—and man became lost forever, yea, they became fallen man.”

Genesis 1:28; “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Who or What has Existed Eternally

Joseph Smith – Seeker after Truth, Prophet of God, pg 158; “Here Joseph Smith again broke with existing false traditions. It had been taught that God created the earth out of nothing, by the fiat of his word. Instead, Joseph declared that the earth was made from existing materials. That is, the earth was organized rather than created. Latter-day Saints always speak of the “creation” of the earth in that sense.” – John A. Widstoe

Council of gods

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 348; “I will transpose and simplify it in the English language. Oh, ye lawyers, ye doctors, and ye priests, who have persecuted me, I want to let you know that the Holy Ghost knows something as well as you do. The head God called together the Gods and sat in grand council to bring forth the world. The grand councilors sat at the head in yonder heavens and contemplated the creation of the worlds which were created at the time. When I say doctors and lawyers, I mean the doctors and lawyers of the Scriptures. I have done so hitherto without explanation, to let the lawyers flutter and everybody laugh at them. Some learned doctors might take a notion to say the Scriptures say thus and so; and we might believe the Scriptures; they are not to be altered. But I am going to show you an error in them.”

Plan of Salvation

“In the premortal existence, Heavenly Father prepared a plan to enable us to become like Him and receive a fulness of joy. The scriptures refer to this plan as “the plan of salvation” (Alma 24:14; Moses 6:62), “the great plan of happiness” (Alma 42:8), “the plan of redemption” (Jacob 6:8; Alma 12:30), and “the plan of mercy” (Alma 42:15). The plan of salvation is the fulness of the gospel. It includes the Creation, the Fall, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and all the laws, ordinances, and doctrines of the gospel. Moral agency, the ability to choose and act for ourselves, is also essential in Heavenly Father’s plan. Because of this plan, we can be perfected through the Atonement, receive a fulness of joy, and live forever in the presence of God. Our family relationships can last throughout the eternities.” – LDS Gospel Topics, Plan of Salvation

Creation

The book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price is the account of the creation.  Moses 2:1-31 is much like the account of the creation as told in the Bible.  Now if we skip over to Abraham chapters 4 and 5 in the Pearl of Great Price we see an entirely different story of the creation.  Here it tells the Mormon that the ‘Gods’ created the earth and then created man.  This is just one example of how the Mormons became confused.

December 4 – John 1:3; “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

_____

We see from scripture that Jesus is the Creator, nothing was made without Him.  Once again the LDS Church has tricked their followers into believing a lie.   Understanding the Church has changed the meanings of basic English words is one of the keys to remember when witnessing to your Mormon friends and relatives.  Continue to have a dictionary on hand for reference.  It’s easier to control the masses when you keep them confused; thus you have groups such as Mormonism.

_____

“To create is to organize. It is an utterly false and uninspired notion to believe that the world or any other thing was created out of nothing or that any created thing can be destroyed in the sense of annihilation. “The elements are eternal.” (D. & C. 93:33.)”  Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 169.

Doctrine and Covenants 93:29, 33; “Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.” “For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy.”
