October 22 — Conference Quote: Joseph Works for Us on Other Side of Veil. General Conference, ‘The Man Who “Communed with Jehovah’, October 2024 “His sincere prayer, offered with unwavering faith, received the attention of the most powerful forces in the universe, including the Father and the Son. And the devil. Each of these had an intense interest in that prayer and in that boy. …

What was said of John the Baptist might also be said of Joseph Smith: “There was a man sent from God, whose name was [Joseph]. … He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light,” “that all men through him might believe.” … (more…)

Isaiah 40:25 “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.”

In August 2016 I was searching around for info on a speech by Melvin J. Ballard, when I came upon a  very interesting online publication called Mormonism Against Itself, written by a fellow by the name of Maurice Barnett.

The book was a compilation of dozens of Mormon documents that are now out of print, or hard to find. One of the items I read in Mr. Barnett’s compilation was a handout for a ward teacher’s lesson from 1922. While I am fully aware this sounds mundane, when you glance over this, one will discover how the Church knew no bounds when trying to pull the wool over the eyes of its followers. And surprisingly (or maybe not), they’re still banking on the same doctrines they did way back when.

They obviously felt no shame when referring to Joseph Smith as a redeemer, nor did they bother with publishing biblically sound materials. The content for their comparison of Jesus and Joseph was so outlandish, I’m still left without words to describe how awful it is!

D&C 132:7 “…by revelation and commandment through the medium of mine anointed, whom I have appointed on the earth to hold this power (and I have appointed unto my servant Joseph to hold this power in the last days, and there is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferred)…” [emp. added] (more…)

August 19 — BoM Declares It May or May Not Be True. Matthew 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked.

Not only does the Book of Mormon contain anachronistic problems along with its plagiarism we also see contradictions within its own text. Sometimes the Book of Mormon will tell you it’s completely trustworthy and at other times,  not so much.

I’d never thought of our Bible verse today in light of the Mormon’s faith, or the lack thereof. That was until I read Oswald Chambers devotional for August 12th. Chambers mentioned we should all rest in the Lord (how true!), and resting in Him includes doing so even during the stormy times in life.

_____

When push comes to shove, we all have a major decision in life to make. Do we instinctively fall back on our heritage and culture, in which we were raised? Or do we brave the storm by resting in Him, even if our decisions will cause the ship to overturn? Many times when we make a major change, expecting an overturned boat, we find our decision caused it to turn upright, not knowing the mess we had been in all along.

Nowhere in the Bible do we see the ambiguity we read about in the Book of Mormon! God’s word encourages study, discernment, and proving it for your life.

However, as our text today says, Jesus also expected us to trust and rest in Him. If you’re LDS, how do you trust the canon Joe Smith said was from God, when it blatantly says it isn’t always true?

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Ephesians 4:14

August 15 — God’s Appearance in America c. BC 2,200. Ether 12:20-21 “And behold, we have seen in this record that one of these was the brother of Jared; for so great was his faith in God, that when God put forth his finger he could not hide it from the sight of the brother of Jared, because of his word which he had spoken unto him, which word he had obtained by faith. 21 And after the brother of Jared had beheld the finger of the Lord, because of the promise which the brother of Jared had obtained by faith, the Lord could not withhold anything from his sight; wherefore he showed him all things, for he could no longer be kept without the veil.” (more…)

August 11 — Joseph Smith Knows More Than Whole World. Times and Seasons 5:614 – 617 “…No man can learn you more than what I have told you…I have been reading the German and find it to be the most correct…I know more than all the world put together, and the Holy Ghost within me comprehends more than all the world…I have now preached a little Latin, a little Hebrew, Greek and German, and I have fulfilled all. August 2 — Mormon Confusion of Elias and Elijah. Doctrine and Covenants 110:12-13 “Visions manifested to Joseph Smith the Prophet and Oliver Cowdery in the temple at Kirtland, Ohio, April 3, 1836…After this, Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed.13 After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us; for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us, and said…” (more…)

“A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.” Proverbs 14:5

July 27 — Joseph Smith, the Chosen One. “Come: Hear the Voice of the Lord”, Ensign, December 1985 “Joseph Smith himself read in the book of James the famous words known to us all: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5.)

In describing his feelings at the time, he said: “Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again.” (JS—H 1:12.)

Then, because the hour had come for the ushering in of the dispensation of the fulness of times, and because he was the one chosen and foreordained from eternity to commence the work, the Great God and his Beloved Son, descending in eternal splendor from the courts of glory, manifested themselves to this guileless and believing youth.

But, be it remembered, the scripture was the guidepost leading to the receipt of the First Vision, a vision equalled by few in import and glory in all the history of the world.” — Bruce McConkie (more…)

July 8 — Preparing the World for Joseph Smith. “Preparations for the Restoration and the Second Coming: “My Hand Shall Be over Thee,”” Ensign, Nov.2005, 92 “Before that sacred night in Bethlehem, the events of history and the words of the prophets of all dispensations prepared the way for the first coming of the Lord and His Atonement. Similarly, history and prophecy laid the groundwork for the Restoration of the gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
