Doctrines of Salvation 2:199, 202 “The most important history in the world is the history of our Church, and it is the most accurate history in all the world, it must be so…

. . . if errors creep in it, the Lord himself will bring to pass means whereby they will be eliminated. You pick up a record of the history of the Church and that record is accurate.” – Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation I:188 “If Joseph’s claims and declarations were built upon fraud and deceit, there would appear many errors and contradictions, which would be easy to detect. The doctrines of false teachers will not stand the test when tried by the accepted standards of measurement, the scriptures.”  — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation 3:94~ “Now in the nature of things, the law of sacrifice will have to be restored, or all things which were decreed by the Lord would not be restored. It will be necessary, therefore, for the sons of Levi, who offered the blood sacrifices anciently in Israel, to offer such a sacrifice again to round out and complete this ordinance in this dispensation. Sacrifice by the shedding of blood was instituted in the days of Adam and of necessity will have to be restored. The sacrifice of animals will be done to complete the restoration…” ~ Joseph Fielding Smith, 1956 (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation 2:130 “FALSE LIMITATIONS ON HOPE OF SALVATION. Let us reflect for a moment on this teaching that only those who confess the name of Christ or who are baptized in this life shall be saved; that all who have died without confessing Christ, or without having had the privilege of hearing him, are forever lost and are cast into hell; that there is no salvation for them, although it is no fault of their own that they did not hear.

Think of the countless multitudes who have died without the privilege of hearing of Jesus Christ! Are all these to be eternally consigned to torment with the damned? And this, because they were unfortunate as to time and place of birth!” – Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

Conference Report, April 1959, p. 23 “I have no idea in my mind that every soul that has lived upon the face of the earth, who has died and gone to the spirit world, is going to repent and receive the gospel. There will be many that will not do that. Our scriptures point to that fact. They are not going to receive the gospel in the spirit world, when their souls are full of bitterness and hate towards the truth, but they have a right to have it taught to them.” – Joseph Fielding Smith [emp. mine] (more…)

1 Corinthians 15:22, 45; “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”

BYU Speeches, Devotional, ‘A Wonderful Flood of Light,’ March 26, 1989; “We do not know how many inhabited worlds there are, or where they are. But certainly we are not alone. This is a universe of spiritual order, in which “Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest” (Abraham 3:9).” – Neal A. Maxwell

Doctrines of Salvation 1:16; “WHEN TO USE TITLE: “THE CHRIST.” The name Christ is a title comparable to the title Messiah and meaning The Anointed One, and has reference to the office of our Savior. If the remarks of a speaker have reference to the nature and calling of our Lord in the office which he holds, then the definite article preceding the name is in perfect order. However, when we are speaking of the Redeemer in some other sense than by reference to his official title, it is well for us not to use the article, but the whole name of our Lord, or, even better still, in order to avoid the too frequent repetition, we can say our Redeemer or Savior or the Lord.

The great lesson for us to learn, in all our preaching, writing, and conversations, is to use the titles of Deity sparingly, not with familiarity, or with lack of reverence.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, 10th LDS Prophet, 1954

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Scientifically speaking, the 60’s and 70’s were an exciting time for mankind. They orbited the earth, and even landed on the moon. Alas, not everyone was happy about the discoveries, and went so far as to publicize their nay-saying ways.

The 10th LDS Prophet/President, Joseph Fielding Smith, spoke out a number of times on the subject. We can only surmise his dismay stemmed from concern that false prophecies made by his predecessors, Joseph Smith, and Brigham Young, would come to light.

Mark 11:15-16; “And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.”

Doctrines of Salvation 2:67; “FAMILY UNIT CONTINUES ONLY IN CELESTIAL KINGDOM…We believe that the family will go on. I get a great deal of comfort out of the thought that if I am faithful and worthy of an exaltation, my father will be my father, and I will be subject to him as his son through all eternity; that I will recognize and know my mother and she will be my mother in all eternity; and my brothers and sisters will be my brothers and sisters for all eternity; and that my children and my wives will be mine in eternity. I don’t know how some other people feel, but that is a glorious thought to me. That helps to keep me sober.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

The Improvement Era, Vol. 64, No. 12, December 1961, pp. 924-925Joseph Fielding Smith's Response BoM Changes; “During the past week or two I have received a number of letters from different parts of the United States written by people, some of whom at least are a little concerned because they have been approached by enemies of the Church and enemies of the Book of Mormon, who have made the statement that there have been one or two or more thousand changes in the Book of Mormon since the first edition was published. Well, of course, there is no truth in that statement.

“It is true that when the Book of Mormon was printed the printer was a man who was unfriendly. The publication of the book was done under adverse circumstances, and there were a few errors, mostly typographical – conditions that arise in most any book that is being published – but there was not one thing in the Book of Mormon or in the second edition or any other edition since that in any way contradicts the first edition, and such changes as were made were made by the Prophet Joseph Smith because under those adverse conditions the Book of Mormon was published. But there was no change of doctrine.

“Now, these Sons of Belial who circulate these reports evidently know better. I will not use the word that is in my mind.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

David O. McKay

“Although, I do not care much for a negro, still I have a warm spot in my heart for those beautiful singers.”

“There is not now, and there never has been a doctrine in this church that the negroes are under a divine curse. There is no doctrine in the church of any kind pertaining to the negro. We believe that we have a scriptural precedent for withholding the priesthood from the negro. It is a practice, not a doctrine, and the practice someday will be changed. And that’s all there is to it.” – Sterling M. McMurrin affidavit, March 6, 1979. See David O. McKay and The Rise of Modern Mormonism by Greg Prince and William Robert Wright.

Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207; “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Luke 23:33; “And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him,  and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.”

Wooden Christian CrossTo set the stage for our topic today, we’ll first look at some key elements of what took place on the very day Jesus died.

We’re offering a few verses showing the reason why He died, the consequences of His death, and where He died (see Luke 23:33 above).

We’ve listed these things to point out the contradictions (aka false teachings) of what you’ll find in just one doctrinal teaching, from one Mormon prophet.

Just think for a moment…Mormonism has been around now for 186+ years. It’s produced sixteen prophets, and one hundred apostles since 1830. The number of other teachers are numerous as you might imagine, making the list of their contributions on teachings, and sermons virtually unknown.

With that said, imagine the discontent in a Mormon’s heart, and the constant turmoil reigning therein. I know this happens because I, like millions of others, lived it and have been set free only because of what He did! Pray for those who are still searching, and questioning the numerous contradictions that pour forth from their anointed leaders.

2 Corinthians 5:21; “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Matthew 5:48; “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

Answers to Gospel Questions Joseph Fielding SmithAnswers to Gospel Questions 3:26; “COMPLETE WORTHINESS REQUIRED … …in the celestial kingdom, we must be worthy in every point, or we fail to receive the blessing. The kingdom of God must exist in absolute unity. Every law must be obeyed, and no member of the Church can have a place there unless he is in full accord. There came a rebellion once with disastrous results, and there had to be a cleansing.

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48.)

And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end. (III Nephi 27:19.)” – Joseph Fielding Smith

salt lake mormon temple 2Deseret Evening News, December 27, 1919, Section 3, p. 7; “I know that my Redeemer liveth; I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God; I know that God is a being with body, parts, and passions and that his Son is in his own likeness, and that man is created in the image of God. The Son, Jesus Christ, grew and developed into manhood the same as you or I, as likewise did God, his father grow and develop to the Supreme Being that he now is. Man was born of woman; Christ the Savior, was born of woman; and God, the Father, was born of woman. Adam, our earthly parent, was also born of woman into this world, the same as Jesus and you and I.”
