brahma-god-bbc-ukThe other day I was notified that I had received a comment on the website pertaining to an article I had written a while ago about Yoga. A Mormon woman, who’s very much into this shared with me what she believes are benefits of yoga.

As I read over her comment, and attempted to formulate a response I discovered that I couldn’t do it justice with only a few short sentences.  I felt that it needed more, so here’s my open response to her.

Mark 8:36; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Kimball Conference Report, April 1974, p. 187; “I don’t know if you receive them, but every week, every mail, I receive two or three or a dozen applications for charity, from all over the world saying: “Please send us money to help these poor people that are starving and homeless.”

Now then our work should go to our own people first, of course, and I have recently made up my mind. I just throw them into a pile and think, Well, there is another $5.00 that could go to the fast offerings… … “Bishops, don’t let yourselves be imposed upon.”

general-conference-april-2012-948369-galleryThe LDS Church has listed the talk summaries of their upcoming General Conference, so we’re looking at what Mr. Dieter Uchtdorf had to share. His entire speech can be viewed at the link for the video presentation at the end of this article.

General Conference, ‘Fourth Floor, Last Door,’ October 2016;

The purpose of faith is not to change God’s will but to empower us to act on God’s will. Faith is trust—trust that God sees what we cannot and that He knows what we do not. Sometimes, trusting our own vision and judgment is not enough. …

In light of that statement, we have a question for Mr. Uctdorf.

moroni-2016Why Did Moroni Deliver the Gold Plates on September 22?

By Book of Mormon Central | Sep. 22, 2016 Mormon Life

“…Moroni’s annual visits occurred generally around the time of the Israelite harvest festival season. The initial visit on September 21 in 1823 coincided with that year’s celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. In 1824, September 22 was the eve of the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and the beginning of the fall festivals.”

Exodus 32:3-6, 8; “And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.”

philadelphia-temple-opening-ceremonyWhen Moses and Joshua returned to camp with the second set of Tablets of the Testimony, they found fellow Israelites patiently waiting, which was a far different scene than the one Moses had come upon the first time he had trekked up Mt. Sinai.

Although they were behaving this time around, consequences for their past would carry a heavy toll.

Isaiah 45:6; “That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.”

Orson PrattToday we’re doing things a little differently – woo-hoo!! The title of this article is a good  example of how LDS doctrines lead people away from the Lord, instead of to Him.

Reality of heaven for a Christian goes something like this: after death a Christian goes to heaven to be with the Lord Jesus, and it’s there they’ll be able to see family and friends who are also saved.

For the Mormon, it’s complicated. After death they’ll expect to go to heaven to be with their spouses, and in the scenario Orson Pratt has proposed, that one couple will begin ‘multiplying their species’. They’ll continue to do this until they’ve given birth to enough children to sufficiently populate an earth like this for the extent of time their planet is in existence.

John 1:3; “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

galaxy-teachingsCheck out our new page we’ve dubbed ‘Galaxy Teachings’! You’ll be able to find a ton of info for the sermons the Church has given on outer space (scary!), to what their beliefs are about the earth’s creation, which is even scarier – yikes! You can read it in full here, but also be sure to check out the new page on the right side bar later today.

Some teachings ad doctrines of the Church have defied logic, yet no one has called the leadership on tnheir erroneous beliefs to hold them accountable. Simply put, in the light of eternal things, this is absolutely tragic, and horrifying!

Mormons are taught they must abide by the counsel of their leaders without question, and most unfortunately, have done just that. Trust is a commodity in life that’s earned so we’re wondering why many in the Church have thrown caution to the wind, and ignored the warning signs there’s something seriously flawed in the teachings being delivered from those pulpits in Salt Lake.

Isaiah 6:1; “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”

temples-01As you probably figured out, today we’re looking at temples! Our objective is to look at why our Lord said we shouldn’t have more than one temple at a time, and examine the Church’s use of them.

As of September 16, 2016, the LDS Church reported having 151 temples in operation, which means they have 151 too many. Making matters worse, there are sixteen others awaiting completion.

The BoM tells us the Nephites operated several temples at a time, which was in total defiance to God.

Alma 16:13; “And Alma and Amulek went forth preaching repentance to the people in their temples, and in their sanctuaries, and also in their synagogues, which were built after the manner of the Jews.”

Adding insult to injury in their defiance against the Lord, one of their apostles made the comment temples are the stopping point between man and heaven.

“The temple is a point of intersection between heaven and earth. In this sacred place, holy work will be performed through selfless service and love. The temple reminds me of all that is good and beautiful in the world.” – David A. Bednar

Philippians 4:8; “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

John D Lee sitting on his coffin before executionToday I received my daily e-mail from TodayinMormonHistory.com which served as another reminder of why I left the Church.

In the annals of LDS history lies a treasure trove of sermons the Church would love to have either disappear, or stay in the dark closet from which they were birthed. For the sake of truth, we’re pulling them from their dusty shelves as a grim reminder this church isn’t the family-oriented organization as seen on t.v.

Jeffrey Holland General Conference, “Lord, I Believe”, April 2013; “When problems come and questions arise, do not start your quest for faith by saying how much you do not have, leading as it were with your “unbelief.” That is like trying to stuff a turkey through the beak! Let me be clear on this point: I am not asking you to pretend to faith you do not have. I am asking you to be true to the faith you do have. Sometimes we act as if an honest declaration of doubt is a higher manifestation of moral courage than is an honest declaration of faith. It is not! So let us all remember the clear message of this scriptural account: Be as candid about your questions as you need to be; life is full of them on one subject or another. But if you and your family want to be healed, don’t let those questions stand in the way of faith working its miracle.” – Jeffrey R. Holland

anthony_w-_ivins  Relationship Between Mormonism and Freemasonry, p. 179; “From the time of his first heavenly manifestation, Joseph Smith was persecuted, reviled, ridiculed and hated.  His only friends were the few devoted men and women who recognized him in a chosen instrument, raised up by God our Father for the accomplishment of a divine purpose.

Charged with offenses against the civil law he was never found guilty of an unlawful act.  Accused of perverting the word of the Lord as it is contained in the Bible, it cannot be shown that he ever taught a doctrine which is not on harmony with the teachings of that sacred volume.  He was imprisoned and condemned to death when he had committed no offense against God or man.

If ever a man was in need of sympathy and the friendship of good men, that man was Joseph Smith.  It was under these circumstances that Joseph Smith became a member of the Masonic Fraternity.  He hoped to find there the friendship and protection which he so much craved, but which had been denied him outside of his few devoted adherents.  The sequel proved that he was mistaken.” – A.W. Ivins

times_and_seasons_vol_6_0000Today we’re looking at a passage of scripture the Mormon Church has zeroed in on, and made a doctrine from half a line in one verse of scripture. We’ll look at what the Church has taught, and compare it with what the Bible really means when it said, ‘Jesus was made perfect’.

The length of the sermon we’re looking at today was extraordinarily long, therefore, we’ll only be looking at one small subject from Mr. Taylor’s teaching today. We’ll be exploring the rest of it in the near future! If you’d like to read it in full, you can do so by clicking on the link provided within the text below.

Hebrews 2:9-10; “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” [emp. mine]

Not long ago a Utah newspaper, the Utah Valley 360 published an article titled “Eight is great: 8 things to teach your child before baptism”. In the article the author lists 8 things Mormon parents need to teach their children about baptism before they turn eight.

In this article I’d like to cover these “tips” given to Mormon parents, offer a Christian perspective to this practice, and share my experience on this matter.

salt lake mormon temple 2The Life of Joseph Fielding Smith [1972], 364; “Joseph Smith is the revealer of the knowledge of Christ and of salvation to the world for this day and generation. … I, for one, want to be numbered forever among those who seek counsel and authority and blessings as they have come from this great prophet whom the Lord raised up to commence the restoration of all things in this final, glorious gospel dispensation”.

salt lake mormon temple 2Today we’re looking at a couple of e-mails we’ve received on our sites. The first one is in reference to a conversation Melissa’s having with a member of the LDS Church here, on our regular site. The back and forth excuses he keeps trying to employ in his defense reminded me of a very similar e-mail we received a few years back and my  response to that young man by the name of ‘Ryan’. The guy Melissa is speaking with is ‘Phil’.

Be sure to check out Melissa’s response to this Mormon gentleman. Their exchange is from 9/11/2016, and is located at the very end of all the posts.

Women of Mormondom The Women of Mormondom, p. 200; “Who shall number the blasphemies of the sectarian churches against our first grand parents? Ten thousand priests of the serpent have thundered anathemas upon the head of “accursed Adam.”

Appalling, oftentimes, their pious rage. And Eve the holiest, grandest of Mothers has been made a very by-word to offset the frailties of the most wicked and abandoned. Very different is Mormon theology! The Mormons exalt the grand parents of our race. Not even is the name of Christ more sacred to them than the names of Adam and Eve.” – Eliza Roxcy Snow
