false-prophecies-of-mormonism-2Today were taking a look at the adamant claims of a Mormon prophet, and the stand he took on perpetuating the stories from the Book of Mormon. One has to wonder what the Church would say about this Ensign article, published 45 years ago.

Ensign, “Of Royal Blood,”  July 1971;With pride I tell those who come to my office that a Lamanite is a descendant of one Lehi who left Jerusalem six hundred years before Christ and with his family crossed the mighty deep and landed in America. And Lehi and his family became the ancestors of all of the Indian and Mestizo tribes in North and South and Central America and in the islands of the sea, for in the middle of their history there were those who left America in ships of their making and went to the islands of the sea. Not until the revelations of Joseph Smith, bringing forth the Book of Mormon, did anyone know of these migrants. It was not known before, but now the question is fully answered. Now the Lamanites number about sixty million; they are in all of the states of America from Tierra del Fuego all the way up to Point Barrows, and they are in nearly all the islands of the sea from Hawaii South to New Zealand … The descendants of this mighty people were called Indians by Columbus in 1492 when he found them here. The term Lamanite includes all Indians and Indian mixtures, such as Polynesians, the Guatemalans, the Peruvians, as well as the Sioux, the Apache, the Mohawk, the Navajo, and others. It is a large group of great people.” – Spencer W. Kimball

witnessing-tip-of-the-day-octoberOctober 31 – Abraham’s Promise. Genesis 17:17-21; “Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! 19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.”

Masonic symbols 2010 First Presidency Christmas Devotional, ‘Seeing Christmas through New Eyes,’ December 2010; “The more commercialized and busy the Christmas season becomes, the easier it is for the sublime message of the Savior’s life to get lost along the way. If we notice that planning for parties and scrambling for presents begin to detract from the peaceable message of Jesus Christ and distance us from the gospel He preached, let us take a step back, slow down a little, and reconsider what matters most.” — Dieter F. Uchtdorf [emp. mine]

Isaiah 53:4-6; “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

FIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘The Order and Will of God,’ January 1989

Gordon B. Hinckley“So many of us are prone to say we forgive, when in fact we are unwilling to forget. If the Lord is willing to forget the sins of the repentant, then why are so many of us inclined to bring up the past again and again? Here is a great lesson we all need to learn. There is no true forgiveness without forgetting.” – Gordon B. Hinckley

lds-living-logoThe other day I came upon an article on ldsliving.org titlemagic-fairy-wandd “How the Gospel Is Like a Real-Life Fairy Tale”. It’s funny they think of the Mormon gospel as a fairytale, I always thought of it as science fiction drama. I can see the introduction going something like “In a galaxy far, far away on a planet next to the star Kolob…………” (Book of Abraham 3:2-3)

Isaiah 64:6; “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

pbs-newshourThe other day I came across an article on PBS.org written by a man who shares his experience in converting from Catholicism to Mormonism. In summary, he says that he didn’t choose Mormonism at first, but eventually it chose him. He states that deciding to leave the religion he knew for the Mormon Church was result of his parent’s conversion, a decision he said he accepted without any complaints. Later, however, he realized that he couldn’t continue to rely on someone else’s faith and spiritual experiences, these were things he had to discover for himself.

In his closing remarks, he states “I am a Mormon”, a statement I can recall saying many times when I was asked about my faith, or religion. As a Mormon, my identity was in the Church. My mind, my heart, my soul, my whole being belonged to the Church. Anytime I was faced with a new idea, or situation I always thought, “what would the Church have me do”.

1 John 5:14-15; “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

General Conference, ‘The Soul’s Sincere Desire’, October 2016

It was a sad day earlier this week, and the reason why stems from ‘The Talk of the Week’ the Church posted on its front page of their website.

carol-f-mcconkie-ldsorg-articleLDS Relief Society President, Carol F. McConkie, delivered a speech at General Conference earlier this month titled ‘The Soul’s Sincere Desire’. We’re taking a look at it since they’ve highlighted it in their talk of the week, so here we go! If you’d like to read her speech in its entirety, click on the highlighted link above. For today’s purposes, we’ve simply pulled a few quotes to examine, and see if they’re biblically sound.

“We pray to our Heavenly Father and Him only because He is “God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting … , the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them.” As our Creator, He gave commandments that we “should love and serve him, the only living and true God, and that he should be the only being whom [we] should worship.”8

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11; “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”

Smith’s ingenuity in finding ways to confuse people never ceases to amaze me. What’s even more surprising is false-prophecies-of-mormonism-2how so many have been blinded by it. Today we’re looking at the contradictions in Mormon canon on who should forgive, and when to do so.

The first revelation listed here is from September 11, 1831.

D&C 64:9–10; ”I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men; but he that forgiveth not his brother standeth condemned before the Lord.”

John 14:15; “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Teachings of Heber J. Grant, Chapter 3, Walking in the Path That Leads to Life Eternal, p. 32; Heber Grant“There is but one path of safety for the Latter-day Saints, and that is the path of duty. It is not a testimony only; it is not marvelous manifestations; it is not knowing that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that it is the plan of salvation—it is not actually knowing that the Savior is the Redeemer, and that Joseph Smith was his prophet, that will save you and me; but it is the keeping of the commandments of God, living the life of a Latter-day Saint.”
