Matthew 22:36-40 “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

1st-presidency-message-january-2017-female-archer-target_1849915FIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘Aiming at the Center,’ January 2017

The focus of the Church’s latest First Presidency Message was to remind members they should love others using the passage in Matthew 22:36-40. We’re not concerned so much with the theme, as many Christian pastors will have the same type of sermons. Rather, our interest lies in Dieter Uchtdorf’s definition for ‘a child of God’.

2 Peter 2:1-3 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

 Ensign, General Conference, ‘O How Great the Plan of Our God,’ November 2016; “Brothers and sisters, we are eternal beings, without beginning and without end. We have always existed.1 We are the literal spirit children of divine, immortal, and omnipotent Heavenly Parents!

We come from the heavenly courts of the Lord our God. We are of the royal house of Elohim, the Most High God. We walked with Him in our premortal life. We heard Him speak, witnessed His majesty, learned His ways.” – Dieter Uchtdorf

general-conference-april-2012-948369-galleryThe LDS Church has listed the talk summaries of their upcoming General Conference, so we’re looking at what Mr. Dieter Uchtdorf had to share. His entire speech can be viewed at the link for the video presentation at the end of this article.

General Conference, ‘Fourth Floor, Last Door,’ October 2016;

The purpose of faith is not to change God’s will but to empower us to act on God’s will. Faith is trust—trust that God sees what we cannot and that He knows what we do not. Sometimes, trusting our own vision and judgment is not enough. …

In light of that statement, we have a question for Mr. Uctdorf.

LDS Leaders Who Admit Church Doctrine Isn't TrueThe past few years has brought change to Mormonism. The one change receiving the most attention is seen when a leader admits some aspect of the Church isn’t true. The problem with their disingenuous attempt at transparency is the ever present habit of lying.

Time and again, the Church has missed the opportunity to throw open wide the doors of total honesty, and walk the highway of holiness as in Isaiah 35:8. They’ve chosen instead to meander down the same path they’re most familiar with; twisted half truths.

the-first-presidencylds_conference_april_2010When I came upon the Church’s Easter message, I had to shake my head at the number of inconsistencies they plastered on their website. Today we’re taking a look at what they tried to tell people about Jesus. And for Easter Holy Week of all times…good grief! We’ll be listing each name title they used and define them in a proper manner so there won’t be any confusion!

First Presidency Easter Message, March 17, 2016; “Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Jehovah of the Old Testament, and the Messiah of the New Testament. He died and was resurrected, and He lives in glory with our Eternal Father.

Stay on PathOur question today isn’t rhetorical, rather, it stems from a comment made by LDS apostle Dieter Uchtdorf at the October 2015 General Conference.

Couched in a long sermon, Mr. Uchtdorf said all members would benefit from asking themselves a series of questions to evaluate where they are in life. This way, he said, they’d also be better prepared to answer questions from non-members.

We’re taking a look at the key parts of his speech, and then we’ll ask our own set of questions!

Ensign, ‘It Works Wonderfully!,’ November 2015; “Is the Gospel Working for You? … Sometimes the truth may just seem too straightforward, too plain, and too simple for us to fully appreciate its great value. So we set aside what we have experienced and know to be true in pursuit of more mysterious or complicated information. Hopefully we will learn that when we chase after shadows, we are pursuing matters that have little substance and value.

dieter uchtdorfFIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘Finish with Your Torch Still Lit,’ October 2015;

“… …The Light That Never Dies

Sometimes after stumbling, failing, or even giving up, we get discouraged and believe our light has gone out and our race is lost. But I testify that the Light of Christ cannot be extinguished. It shines in the darkest night and will relight our hearts if only we incline our hearts to Him (see 1 Kings 8:58).

No matter how often or how far we fall, theLight of Christ ever burns brightly. And even in the deepest night, if we but step toward Him, His light will consume the shadows and reignite our souls…

For the torch is not about us or about what we do.

It is about the Savior of the world.

And that is a Light that can never be dimmed. It is a Light that swallows the darkness, heals our wounds, and blazes even in the midst of the deepest sorrow and unfathomable darkness.

It is a Light that surpasses understanding.

May each of us finish the path we have begun. And with the help of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, we will finish joyfully and with our torches still lit.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, April 2015, “The Gift of Grace”; “A powerful expression of [Christ’s] love is what the scriptures often call the grace of God…We cannot earn our way into heaven; the demands of justice stand as a barrier, which we are powerless to overcome on our own.

But all is not lost.dieter uchtdorf

The grace of God is our great and everlasting hope. …

But the grace of God does not merely restore us to our previous innocent state. If salvation means only erasing our mistakes and sins, then salvation—as wonderful as it is—does not fulfill the Father’s aspirations for us. His aim is much higher: He wants His sons and daughters to become like Him…It is by God’s amazing grace that His children can overcome the undercurrents and quicksands of the deceiver, rise above sin, and “are perfect[ed] in Christ” (Moroni 10:32).” – President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency

dnews SatAM.photo.cit jaI came across an article on Fox News that reported on the 5 people who raised their hands in opposition to sustaining church leadership. It was the first time since the ‘80’s anyone has done this. Reaction from the Church was as you might expect – they just kept putzin’ right along.

When at least 5 people stood to oppose sustaining the highest officers of the Church, other people could be heard shouting at the dissenters.

dieter uchtdorfToday we’re exploring a talk from the 2014 LDS General Conference, given by LDS apostle Dieter Uchtdorf.

The reason why I’m honing in on this particular talk is twofold. Melissa sent me a quote from what Mr. Uchtdorf said which caused me to follow the link she provided…simple stuff I know!

The other reason stems from my findings of his material after giving it a cursory glance. So my plan here is to look at some of the key things he said and as always, I have a few questions!  Overall, I found the words of this man were nothing more than the same stuff, different day.

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, “Come Join with Us,” October 2013; “And, to be perfectly frank, there have been times when members or leaders in the Church have simply made mistakes. There may have been things said or done that were not in harmony with our values, principles, or doctrine…There Is Room for You…To those who have separated themselves from the Church, I say, my dear friends, there is yet a place for you here.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Salt Lake TempleWith bated breath (eye roll) we waited for the Salt Lake Tribune’s article to make its appearance giving us a synopsis of the talks presented at the semi-annual 183rd General Conference of the LDS Church.  So now that I have it in black and white I’m breaking this down to see for myself if the words of these Mormon leaders are 1. truthful and 2. umm…truthful.
