Book of Mormon & Dates in History

A few years ago I took a bible study class on the book of Jeremiah.  Now I’ve been taking bible study classes non-stop since I was saved back on Palm Sunday of ’93 and I have to say that just like every other Christian I learn a lot, but there are times when the studies are more significant than others.  The study of Jeremiah did that for me.

The Book of Questions

Helaman – BC 52-2

I’ve always thought of Helaman as the book of questions. While the entire Book of Mormon has many unanswered questions this one book has always made me wonder why my people can’t see through the lies of Joseph Smith. Today we’re looking at just a couple of things.

 Pre-mortal life/Pre-existence

The Mormon believes that he/she existed in spirit form before the earth was created and is co-eternal with God Himself.  They also believe they came into existence through a sexual union between their Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.

A Simple Comparison…

Many people call us asking for help to witness to their loved ones.  We have a list of several insights we’ve posted on our site and blog here to aid in helping those who’ve been caught in the snares of Mormonism. In addition to the 20 helps we thought it’d be handy for our readers to also have a side-by-side comparison of the Bible, Book of Mormon and other LDS teachings.

Notice how the Mormon writings will both agree and contradict each other as well as the Bible. This is important to point out to your loved one when you have the opportunity to share the gospel with them.

Above all, know that we’re praying for you and would love to hear of your updates!

With Love in Christ, Michelle

September 13 – Romans 10:15-17; “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Women, Unmarried are Damned

Latter-day Prophets and the D&C, 4:392-393; We cannot feel justified in closing this article on the subject of marriage without saying a few words to unmarried females in this Church. You will clearly perceive, from the revelation which God has given, that you can never obtain a fulness of glory, without being married to a righteous man for time and for all eternity.” – Orson Pratt

Qualifying for the Holy Ghost

Ensign, July 2008, pg. 29; One of the greatest blessings of membership in the Church is the opportunity to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Through virtuous living we can qualify for this divine source of guidance, which enables us to see “things as they really are, and … as they really will be” (Jacob 4:13).” – Kenneth Johnson

“Joseph Smith’s divine calling as the restorer of plain and precious truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ was for the benefit of all the children of God, past, present, and future. Yet his role as the great latter-day prophet seems to have imbued him with a special concern for the descendants of the peoples of the Book of Mormon, generally known by the Church today as “Lamanites.””  Susan Easton Black and Charles D. Tate, Jr., eds., Joseph Smith: The Prophet, The Man [Provo:BYUReligiousStudiesCenter, 1993], 187.

Authority

“The claim of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be the only true and living church on the earth is centered on the concept of authority. The LDS belief has been well stated by President Joseph F. Smith: “As to the question of authority, nearly everything depends upon it. No ordinance can be performed to the acceptance of God without divine authority.  Authority is a divine commission or calling from God….The name given to this kind of authority in the scriptures is priesthood (Heb. 7:11-12, 14, 24; 1 Pet. 2:5, 9; D&C 84:107).”  Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 88.

No Christian Churches on Earth for Centuries?

Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses 18:172; But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be. They say, “We have built chapels unto the name of the Lord; we call our Churches Christian Churches, they are called the Church of Christ, St. John’s Church, St. Paul’s Church, St. Peter’s Church, and after others of the ancient Apostles;” and one who had never studied the pattern which God has given of the Christian Church would almost really believe that they are Christian Churches.” – Salt Lake City, March 26, 1876
