History of the Church 2:79-80; “On the top of the mound were stones which presented the appearance of three altars having been erected one above the other, according to the ancient order; and the remains of bones were strewn over the surface of the ground. The brethren procured a shovel and a hoe, and removing the earth to the depth of about one foot, discovered the skeleton of a man, almost entire, and between his ribs the stone point of a Lamanitish arrow, which evidently produced his death. Elder Burr Riggs retained the arrow. The contemplation of the scenery around us produced peculiar sensations in our bosoms; and subsequently the visions of the past being opened to my understanding by the Spirit of the Almighty, I discovered that the person whose skeleton was before us was a white Lamanite, a large, thick-set man, and a man of God. His name was Zelph. He was a warrior and chieftain under the great prophet Onandagus, who was known from the Hill Cumorah, or eastern sea to the Rocky mountains. The curse was taken from Zelph, or, at least, in part—one of his thigh bones was broken by a stone flung from a sling, while in battle, years before his death. He was killed in battle by the arrow found among his ribs, during the last great struggle of the Lamanites and Nephites.” – June 3, 1834

Lehi and Joseph Sr.’s Dream

In 1811 Joseph Smith, Sr. had a dream that was so vivid he shared it with his family. His wife, Lucy Mack Smith, recorded the dream in 1845 and published it in her 1853 book, Biographical Sketches of Joseph Smith The Prophet and His Progenitors For Generations.
The remarkable thing about this dream is how similar it is to a dream the Book of Mormon prophet Lehi had, which of course is recorded in 1 Nephi 8.

1 Nephi 18:1-2, 6; “And it came to pass that they did worship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious workmanship. And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship. 2 Now I, Nephi, did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did I build the ship after the manner of men; but I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men. 6 And it came to pass that on the morrow, after we had prepared all things, much fruits and meat from the wilderness, and honey in abundance, and provisions according to that which the Lord had commanded us, we did go down into the ship, with all our loading and our seeds, and whatsoever thing we had brought with us, every one according to his age; wherefore, we did all go down into the ship, with our wives and our children.”

For the past several weeks Melissa and I have been organizing all the Mormon quotes we publish each day to make it easier to retrieve the info you (and we) need. Don’t ask why I didn’t think of this beforehand…
As I was alphabetizing all these things I came across two very conflicting statements put out by the Church. They stood out like a sore thumb and once again reminded me of the confusion I always felt when I was Mormon.
LDS Ex-Communication of Kate Kelly

The founder of ‘Ordain Women’ found herself in the cross-hairs of the Mormon Church’s behavior police yesterday, June 22, 2014.
Kate Kelly was notified via e-mail that she’d been axed from the Church roles because of her outspoken opinion of how women are treated in the LDS Church. Ironically, we had just posted our daily Mormon Dilemmas and it was on ‘Unquestioning Obedience’.

Journal of Discourses 14:11; “He came down and stood in their midst, and showed them the scars in his hands and feet, and in his side; and after visiting them for several days successively, he told them that he was going to the ten tribes of Israel. He also chose twelve disciples to administer his Gospel on this land and for the ministration of the Holy Ghost. The twelve disciples went forth and preached the Gospel, commencing in South America, and then went into North America, until all the people both in North and South America were converted, receiving the principles of the Gospel-namely, baptism, and the laying on of hands, and all the other principles as preached in our day.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, February 19, 1871

Journal of Discourses 9:102; “Angels are those beings who have been on an earth like this, and have passed through the same ordeals that we are now passing through. They have kept their first estate far enough to preserve themselves in the Priesthood. They did not so violate the law of the Priesthood and condemn themselves to the sin against the Holy Ghost as to be finally lost. They are not crowned with the celestial ones. They are persons who have lived upon an earth, but did not magnify the Priesthood in that high degree that many others have done who have become Gods, even the sons of God. Human beings that pertain to this world, who do not magnify or are not capable of magnifying their high calling in the Priesthood and receive crowns of glory, immortality, and eternal lives, will also, when they again receive their bodies, become angels and will receive a glory. They are single, without families or kingdoms to reign over. All the difference between men and angels is, men are passing through the day of trial that angels have already passed through.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, January 5, 1860

The Nephites separate themselves from the Lamanites, keep the law of Moses, and build a temple—Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cursed, receive a skin of blackness, and become a scourge unto the Nephites.
