“If such may have been the fact, that a part of the Ten Tribes came over to America, in the way we have supposed, leaving the cold regions of Assareth behind them in quest of a milder climate, it would be natural to look for tokens of the presence of Jews of some sort, along countries adjacent to the Atlantic. In order to this, we shall here make an extract from an able work: written exclusively on the subject of the Ten Tribes having come from Asia by the way of Bherings Strait, by the Rev. Ethan Smith, Pultney, Vt., who relates as follows:…” – Times and Seasons, “Truth will prevail”, Vol. III. No. 15, CITY OF NAUVOO, ILL. JUNE 1, 1842, No. 51, Joseph Smith
The quote above comes from the Mormon periodical Times and Seasons which Joseph Smith used to post a quote from a book called ‘View of the Hebrews’, authored by the Minister Ethan Smith (no relation).

Today we’re looking in the Book of Mormon for the all elusive seven feasts the Lord ordained in the OT. This article stems from my search in the Book of Mormon looking for the word Passover or any other feasts we read about in the Old Testament, What I discovered is that you won’t find the word ‘Passover’ mentioned in the Book of Mormon, nor will you find any other feast or festival being observed or even spoken of during their days in Jerusalem.

2 Nephi 3:14-15; “And thus prophesied Joseph, saying: Behold, that seer will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise, which I have obtained of the Lord, of the fruit of my loins, shall be fulfilled. Behold, I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise; 15 And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.”

Today we’re taking a look at Zedekiah, Judah’s last king. The reason we’re doing this is because of what the Book of Mormon says. There are several questionable teachings in their canon on this subject matter so I’ll be listing just one verse in my example and provide multiple verses from the Bible for you to use when witnessing to your Mormon friends/loved ones.
Let’s look at the BoM verse before we proceed. Helaman 8:21 says;
Helaman 8:21; “And now will you dispute that Jerusalem was destroyed? Will ye say that the sons of Zedekiah were not slain, all except it were Mulek? Yea, and do ye not behold that the seed of Zedekiah are with us, and they were driven out of the land of Jerusalem? But behold, this is not all—”

Keystone of Our Religion’, January 2004; “President George Q. Cannon (1827–1901), First Counselor in the First Presidency, stated: “The Book of Mormon is not a geographical primer. It was not written to teach geographical truths. What is told us of the situation of the various lands or cities … is usually simply an incidental remark connected with the doctrinal or historical portions of the work.” 6

Ensign, ‘The Keystone of Our Religion’, January 2004; “…It [BoM] is a keystone for other reasons also. In the promise of Moroni previously referred to—namely, that God will manifest the truth of the Book of Mormon to every sincere inquirer having faith in Christ 4 —we have a key link in a self-locking chain.
A confirming testimony of the Book of Mormon convinces “that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God” 5 and also spiritually verifies the divine calling of Joseph Smith and that he did see the Father and the Son. With that firmly in place, it logically follows that one can also receive a verification that the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price are true companion scriptures to the Bible and the Book of Mormon.” – James Faust

Ensign, ‘The Keystone of Our Religion’, January 2004; “It is important to know what the Book of Mormon is not. It is not primarily a history, although much of what it contains is historical…The test for understanding this sacred book is preeminently spiritual. An obsession with secular knowledge rather than spiritual understanding will make its pages difficult to unlock”. – James Faust

Jarom 1:1-2; “Now behold, I, Jarom, write a few words according to the commandment of my father, Enos, that our genealogy may be kept. 2 And as these plates are small, and as these things are written for the intent of the benefit of our brethren the Lamanites, wherefore, it must needs be that I write a little; but I shall not write the things of my prophesying, nor of my revelations. For what could I write more than my fathers have written? For have not they revealed the plan of salvation? I say unto you, Yea; and this sufficeth me”.

The lesson this week is called “I Will Write It in Their Hearts” and its focus is “to encourage class members to participate in God’s great latter-day work and to have his law written in their hearts”. They’ve used Jeremiah chapters 16, 23, 29 & 31.
This lesson reminded me of CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters. Screwtape (the demon who’s reached a higher level in the bureaucracy of hell) and his nephew Wormwood grapple over the best way to trick their victim into believing in their god who is from below. Every once in awhile they’ll use biblical scriptures to entice the unknowing, but their main objective is to plant seeds of doubt into the mind of the victim so he’ll not know the true God of the Bible. It’s a battle of the mind and heart of man in Lewis’ classic work, the Bible and even our lives today. If Lewis’ work isn’t readily available to give an example of spiritual warfare to the Mormon, I suggest you use this lesson as an acceptable alternative.

The book of Doctrine and Covenants to us stands in a peculiar position above them all”. – Joseph Fielding Smith

A great many opposers of the Book of Mormon, in reading the account of these vessels, have really supposed that there was an insurmountable difficulty connected with the building of these barges because there happened to be a hole in the top, and another hole constructed in the bottom to enable the beings shut up in them to be watertight…

New Witness for Christ in America 1:200-201; “That errors of grammar and faults in diction do exist in the Book of Mormon (and more especially and abundantly in the first edition) must be conceded…The errors are constitutional in their character; they are of the web and woof of the style, and not such errors as may be classed as typographical. Indeed, the first edition of the Book of Mormon is singularly free from typographical errors.” – Francis W. Kirkham, reprinted from B.H. Roberts’, Defense of the Faith and the Saints 1:281
