Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207; “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

November Witnessing Tip of the DayNovember 4 – Jude 1:3-4; “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Matthew 5:9; “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

FIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘The Order and Will of God,’ January 1989

Gordon B. Hinckley“So many of us are prone to say we forgive, when in fact we are unwilling to forget. If the Lord is willing to forget the sins of the repentant, then why are so many of us inclined to bring up the past again and again? Here is a great lesson we all need to learn. There is no true forgiveness without forgetting.” – Gordon B. Hinckley

John_Taylor_seated_in_chair (1) Journal of Discourses 13:15-19; “Go to the Christians and they have one God, but he has neither body, parts, nor passions; his presence is everywhere, but he exists nowhere. They have never heard nor seen him, and they do not know anybody who ever did, not even their ministers, whom, they claim, are sent of God. They are equally as ignorant in relation to their own existence and the ends of their creation. They say they are going to Heaven, but all they can tell you about it is that it is beyond the bounds of time and space.

This kind of doctrine does not suit me…that which is called the Gospel in the Christian world is not the Gospel, but a perversion of it. When Jesus came he came to do away with the law and to introduce the Gospel that their fathers had lost because of transgression. … Why, these Christians, so called, cannot trust their God in anything.” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, March 14, 1869

Ecclesiastes 12:14; For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

Matthew 12:36-37; “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

Doctrines of SalvationThe Doctrines of Salvation is a three volume compilation of doctrines, teachings, and even prophecies meted out by the 10th prophet/president of Mormonism; Joseph Fielding Smith. As I was looking for a specific quote the other day, I came across a number of things this man said, so today we’re looking at a few of them.

As I was reading these, I couldn’t help but wonder what godly purpose these doctrines serve for the Mormon people. His writings, etc., are still used today in their everyday teachings, and so our purpose of posting  these is threefold.

Thomas MonsonEnsign, General Conference, General Priesthood Session, ‘Keep the Commandments,’ November 2015; “We have been infinitely blessed by the change that can only come through repentance made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”

Our Savior died to provide you and me that blessed gift. Despite the fact that the path is difficult, the promise is real. Said the Lord to those who repent:

“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”9

“And I will remember [them] no more.”10

Throughout our lives we will need to nurture strong testimonies by studying the scriptures and by praying and by pondering the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When firmly planted, our testimonies of the gospel, of the Savior, and of our Heavenly Father will influence all that we do.

I testify that all of us are beloved sons of our Father in Heaven, sent to earth at this day and time for a purpose, and given the priesthood of God so that we can serve others and perform God’s work here upon the earth. We have been commanded to live our lives so that we remain worthy to possess that priesthood.” – Thomas S. Monson

robert halesEnsign, “The Eternal Family,” Nov. 1996, p. 65; “Because of the importance of the family to the eternal plan of happiness, Satan makes a major effort to destroy the sanctity of the family, demean the importance of the role of men and women, encourage moral uncleanliness and violations of the sacred law of chastity, and to discourage parents from placing the bearing and rearing of children as one of their highest priorities.” – Robert D. Hales

Gospel Topics, ‘Mother in Heaven,’; “While there is no record of a formal revelation to Joseph Smith on this doctrine, some early Latter-day Saint women recalled that he personally taught them about a Mother in Heaven. 3” (data retrieved 11/23/15)

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, “How Can I Know That The Lord Has Forgiven Me?,” January 2015; “If the time comes when you have done all that you can to repent of your sins, whoever you are, wherever you are, and have made amends and restitution to the best of your ability; if it be something that will affect yourHarold B. Lee standing in the Church and you have gone to the proper authorities, then you will want that confirming answer as to whether or not the Lord has accepted of you. In your soul-searching, if you seek for and you find that peace of conscience, by that token you may know that the Lord has accepted of your repentance. Satan would have you think otherwise and sometimes persuade you that now having made one mistake, you might go on and on with no turning back. That is one of the great falsehoods. The miracle of forgiveness is available to all of those who turn from their evil doings and return no more.” – Harold B. Lee

Mormon Decisions 10First Presidency Message, “Testimony and Conversion,” February 2015; “We need a change in our hearts, as described in the book of Alma: “And they did all declare unto the people the selfsame thing—that their hearts had been changed; that they had no more desire to do evil” (Alma 19:33; see also Mosiah 5:2).the-first-presidencylds_conference_april_2010

The Lord taught us that when we are truly converted to His gospel, our hearts will be turned from selfish concerns and turned toward service to lift others as they move upward to eternal life. To obtain that conversion, we can pray and work in faith to become the new creature made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.” – Henry Eyring, First Counselor in the Presidency
