September 17 – Standing Up For Truth. Luke 1:34-35 “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Don’t Use God’s Name too Much
Doctrines of Salvation 1:16 “WHEN TO USE TITLE: “THE CHRIST.” The name Christ is a title comparable to the title Messiah and meaning The Anointed One, and has reference to the office of our Savior. If the remarks of a speaker have reference to the nature and calling of our Lord in the office which he holds, then the definite article preceding the name is in perfect order. However, when we are speaking of the Redeemer in some other sense than by reference to his official title, it is well for us not to use the article, but the whole name of our Lord, or, even better still, in order to avoid the too frequent repetition, we can say our Redeemer or Savior or the Lord.

God was Resurrected
Doctrines of Salvation 1:76 “Now what is a spiritual body? It is one that is quickened by spirit and not by blood. Our Father in heaven and our Savior and all those who have passed through the resurrection have physical bodies of flesh and bones, but their bodies are quickened by spirit and not by blood, hence they are spiritual bodies and not blood bodies.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Letter on Journal of Discourses “Dear … (name blotted out)
In having in your library, the 26 volumes of the “JOURNALS OF DISCOURSES, you have a library containing the sermons of the Presidents and Apostles of the Church. If anyone tells you that the sermons found therein are not recognized by the Church, they know not what they are talking about. I am sure that the individual is not anyone in authority — certainly not among the General Authorities. It could be a stake authority or a ward authority, but the opinion that the individual or individuals has expressed to you is absolutely erroneous.
If you will kindly turn to the title page of any of them, you will observe that they were published by P # D* and F. S. W* Richards, 15 Wilton St., London, England, and distributed by the Latter-day Saints Book Depot, 35 Jewin Street. This was the printing office where all of the Church publications were printed in England in the early days of the opening of the British Mission, (more…)

Why Mormons Can’t Observe Good Friday
I’m certain I’m not alone when I say that Good Friday always gives us many things to think upon and pray about! Each of us has our own list of reasons why we’re grateful God intervened in our life, and we each carry our own set of memories why this day is special for us.
One of the most memorable experiences for me dates back to my days in Junior High School of all things.
At the time I had become friends with a handful of other girls and as it turned out I was the only Mormon. My small group of friends included a Catholic, a Presbyterian, an Episcopalian, and a Methodist. I began noticing my Catholic friend only ate fish on Fridays and while all the girls had their own set of doctrinal creeds they held dear, their customs afforded me a front row seat to other cultures right there in the heart of Utah Mormonism.
I began wondering what it’d be like to attend a church that had a cross somewhere on the building.

Ensign, ‘Adam’s Role in Bringing Us Mortality’, January 2006 “Adam came here to bring mortality upon the earth…Adam did only what he had to do. He partook of that fruit for one good reason, and that was to open the door to bring you and me and everyone else into this world… One of these days, if I ever get to where I can speak to Mother Eve, I want to thank her for tempting Adam to partake of the fruit.” — Joseph Fielding Smith [Taken from an October 1967 general conference address.] (more…)

Conference Report October 1926, 117 In reference to the modern inventions, then apostle Joseph Fielding Smith, made the following comments – “…I think this is very wonderful; and yet, this great discovery [the radio] did not come through revelation to a member of the Church; it was not sent through one who holds the Priesthood, but it came through one not of the Church but who was inspired of the Lord to give this great blessing to the world.
So with many other things, the automobile and the airplane as means of transportation; the talking machine and all of these great discoveries that have come through scientific research, they have come, most of them, outside of the Church. Yet I maintain that had there been no restoration of the gospel, and no organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there would have been no radio; there would have been no airplane, and there would not have been the wonderul [sic] discoveries in medicine, chemistry, electricity, and the many other things wherein the world has been benefited by such discoveries.
Under such conditions these blessings would have been withheld, for they belong to the Dispensation of the Fulness of Times of which the restoration of the gospel and the organization of the Church constitute the central point…” — Joseph Fielding Smith [emp. added] (more…)

Mark 11:15-16; “And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.”
MORMON JESUS NOT BEGOTTEN OF HOLY GHOST

Doctrines of Salvation 1:18 “I believe firmly that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God in the flesh. He taught this doctrine to his disciples. He did not teach them that he was the Son of the Holy Ghost, but the Son of the Father. Truly, all things are done by the power of the Holy Ghost. It was through this power that Jesus was brought into this world, but not as the Son of the Holy Ghost, but the Son of God. Jesus is greater than the Holy Spirit, which is subject unto him, but his Father is greater than he! He has said it. Christ was begotten of God. He was not born without the aid of Man, and that Man was God!” — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)
