boyd-k-packerEnsign, ‘Come to the Temple,’ February 1995; “No work is more of a protection to this church than temple work and the genealogical research that supports it. No work is more spiritually refining. No work we do gives us more power. No work requires a higher standard of righteousness.

Our labors in the temple cover us with a shield and a protection, both individually and as a people. So come to the temple—come and claim your blessings. It is a sacred work.” – Boyd K. Packer

Ensign, ‘The Mystery of Life,’ Nov. 1983, p. 17; “For His own reasons, the Lord provides answers to some questions, with pieces placed here and there throughout the scriptures. We are to find them; we are to earn them. In that way sacred things are hidden from the insincere.” – Boyd K. Packer

salt lake mormon temple 2“I desire to share a few thoughts about a basic doctrine of the Church. What I say is boyd-k-packerbased on these convictions:

First: instruction vital to our salvation is not hidden…
Second: every verse, whether oft-quoted or obscure, must be measured against other verses…

Next: there is a consistency in what the Lord says and what He does…
Fourth: not all that God has said is in the Bible…

Mormon Decisions 10The other day I came across an online repository of sorts filled with LDS references about the Mormon Holy Ghost. The quotes were taken from speeches, and writings of past and present leaders of Mormonism, and as it turned out the page was written by a professor at BYU, Bruce K. Satterfield.

Looking over some of these I can’t help but feel sorry for those who absorb this into their spirit. There’s mass confusion from one leader to the next with no solid foundational truth upon which to stand. It’s no wonder the #1 issue for many new ex-Mormons is a lack of confidence about God’s Holy Spirit, and how He operates.

I just cannot imagine living life without God’s Holy Spirit as a constant staple in my life. When I’m lonely, or unsure about life, without fail, He is always there to guide me along and clarify doubts for me in His word and His presence.

boyd-k-packerA few days ago I was on the Church’s website, and came across a quote at the end of a page made by one of the LDS apostles, Boyd K. Packer. The name of the page was ‘Recent Messages from LDS Prophets and Apostles”.

The standalone quote was very telling, and I’ve been praying it’ll give pause to members of the Church when they come across it. Today we’re looking at a couple of things within the context of what he said.

boyd-k-packerI just read on the Mormon Newsroom website that Mormon apostle Boyd Packer died today.

We’re asking Christians to pray for surviving family members to know the real Jesus of the Bible. As we stated in Mr. Perry’s death, while we don’t like this man’s ideologies, we do grieve that he was espousing doctrines that so clearly deny our Lord.

With Love in Christ;

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, April 2015, “The Plan of Happiness”; “…The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth has never been rescinded. It is essential to the plan ofboyd-k-packer redemption and is the source of human happiness. Through the righteous exercise of this power, we may come close to our Father in Heaven and experience a fulness of joy, even godhood. The power of procreation is not an incidental part of the plan of happiness; it is the key to happiness…” – Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, “The Key to Spiritual Protection,” October 2013; “Just as chalk canboyd-k-packer be removed from a blackboard, with sincere repentance the effects of our transgression can be erased through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. That promise applies in every case.” — Boyd K. Packer

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, ‘The Reason for Our Hope,’ November 2014; “The Savior wrought the Atonement, which provides a way for us to become clean. Jesus Christ is the resurrected Christ. We worship and recognize Him for the pain He suffered for us collectively and for the pain He endured for each of us individually, both in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. He bore all with great humility and with an eternal understanding of His divine role and purpose.

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference Report, “The Origin of Man,” p 18; “In origin, man is a son of God. The spirits of men “are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24). Through that birth process, self-existing intelligence was organized into individual spirit beings”. – Marion G. Romney, September 30, 1978

Mormon Decisions 10Holy Temple, pg 213; “Each a Savior…We cannot know the full outcome of our efforts. We are commanded to bring the gospel message to the living, and to make provision for ordinance work to be performed for those who have died. We do not know how many of them will be redeemed in the celestial kingdom. We only make it possible for those to progress who can qualify.

It might be likened to putting spiritual resources in a bank to be held in escrow under the name of an ancestor. When and how much he will be eligible to withdraw and claim we do not know. We just know that we are to provide the account for the use of the worthy.” – Boyd K. Packer

Temple Clothing Regulations

Mormon Decisions 10Holy Temple, pg 72; “If you are going to the temple for the first time, counsel with your bishop. When he issues you a recommend he will explain something of the nature of the clothing that will be required in the temple. Obtaining this clothing need not be a worry to you. You can either buy it from a Relief Society Distribution Center or rent it at the temple. In the latter case a very modest fee is required which covers only the cost of laundering the clothing.” – Boyd K. Packer

salt lake mormon temple 2Conference Report, Apr. 1989, 72 & Ensign May 1989; “The discouraging idea that a mistake (or even a series of them) makes it everlastingly too late, does not come from the Lord. He has said that if we will repent, not only will He forgive us our transgressions, but He will forget them and remember our sins no more. Repentance is like soap; it can wash sin away. Ground-in dirt may take the strong detergent of discipline to get the stains out, but out they will come.” – Boyd K. Packer
