May 31 — Mormon Works vs. God Is With Us. Matthew 1:18, 21, 23 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise…21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (more…)

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

General Conference, ‘The Great Plan’ April 2020 “…modern revelation teaches us that our progress need not conclude with the end of mortality. Little has been revealed about this important assurance.

We are told that this life is the time to prepare to meet God and that we should not procrastinate our repentance (see Alma 34:32–33).

Still, we are taught that in the spirit world the gospel is preached even to “the wicked and the disobedient who had rejected the truth” (Doctrine and Covenants 138:29) and that those taught there are capable of repentance in advance of the Final Judgment (see verses 31–34, 57–59).” — Dallin Oaks (more…)

‘How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?’ Hebrews 9:14

General Conference, ‘The Great Plan’ April 2020 “The restored gospel of Jesus Christ gives us a unique perspective on the subjects of chastity, marriage, and the bearing of children.

It teaches that marriage according to God’s plan is necessary for accomplishing the purpose of God’s plan, to provide the divinely appointed setting for mortal birth, and to prepare family members for eternal life.” — Dallin Oaks (more…)

May 15 — Contradictions from LDS Hierarchy: Whom Should You Believe? 2 Peter 2:1 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” (more…)

General Conference, ‘The Great Plan’ April 2020 “In the Council in Heaven, all the spirit children of God were introduced to the Father’s plan, including its mortal consequences and trials, its heavenly helps, and its glorious destiny. We saw the end from the beginning.

All of the myriads of mortals who have been born on this earth chose the Father’s plan and fought for it in the heavenly contest that followed…In ways that have not been revealed, our actions in the spirit world have influenced our circumstances in mortality.” — Dallin Oaks [emp. added] (more…)

Ensign, ‘What Think Ye of Christ?’, November 1988 “Man unquestionably has impressive powers… But after all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effects of our sins without the grace extended by the atonement of Jesus Christ… Man cannot earn his own salvation.” — Dallin H. ‘He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.’ Proverbs 10:9

Integrity is a mighty hard commodity to come by for some folks. Case in point is what we’re looking at today. The LDS apostle, Dallin Oaks, gave a speech at their latest General Conference that spoke more of their same old ways than anything new, or revealing.

Note: As of Sunday, October 6 – Tuesday, October 8, the link for Mr. Oaks’ speech kept defaulting to a speech given by Jeffrey Holland. After repeatedly trying to get to the entire speech on their site, I’m giving up on that and only using their talk summary notes and link. Perhaps others will have a better time of it – ha!

For the sake of brevity, we’re only using a few things he said. To read their summary notes in full, see President Dallin H. Oaks: ‘Two Great Commandments’.

“God requires His children to obey His commandments because only through obedience, including repentance, can one return to live in His presence and become perfect as He is. … The Lord’s apostles are commissioned to teach nothing but truth. They cannot modify divine law.”

Oh dear, Mr. Oaks … (more…)

Today we’re looking at an LDS Fireside Meeting from 2016 when Mormon apostle Dallin Oaks participated in a Q&A type forum with young adults here in the Puget Sound area. The meeting was recorded and uploaded on both YouTube, and SoundCloud. We retrieved our info from Stuff You Missed in Sunday School.

What he said was disturbing because it shows a lack of knowing the Lord which is sad in itself. Furthermore, his position of authority and the credence followers give to him, make it even worse.

I suppose this conference wasn’t much different than its predecessors, however, it seems their words go further to confuse than in years past. The blatant lies they tell are a shock to the sensibilities of those who know the true Jesus.

The three talks we’ve listed here earned themselves a spot in our series, ‘Worst of the Worst’, just as the last three. Two of them are courtesy of their apostle Dallin Oaks who seemed to go out of his way to deceive.

Flabbergasted … “to overcome with surprise and bewilderment; astound”

That verb is the only way to describe my reaction to the Church’s News publication Melissa alerted me to earlier this week.

With utter disbelief I read over the official news release when LDS Apostle Dallin Oaks told a group of young people to basically bury their heads in the sand.

Every time I think I won’t be surprised anymore by what the Church says, I am proven wrong yet again.

This time around my heart absolutely sank as I read over the poor direction this man gave to young LDS members who are obviously finding unfavorable info on church history. (more…)

‘What kind of god…’

General Conference, ‘Truth, and the Plan,’ October 2018 “…we also have a distinctive perspective on children. We look on the bearing and nurturing of children as part of God’s plan and a joyful and sacred duty of those given the power to participate in it.” – Dallin H. Oaks (more…)

Today and tomorrow we’ll be looking at a few of the talks given at the semi-annual LDS General Conference. We’ve chosen the topics based purely at what we thought seemed of greater import. The numbering system we’ve assigned to each doesn’t necessarily indicate the order in which the talk was given, rather, it’s to keep them organized for the articles. We’ve retrieved our info from the Church owned, Deseret News. At the time we gathered our info, the Church hadn’t published the transcripts of each talk.

The first item we’re looking at serves as the poster-child of why my heart will always break for the  Mormon people. Although I realize it’s not a talk, it’s noteworthy because of its content. (more…)

Stepping away from tradition by installing the residing counselors into the upper echelon of Mormonism, the new prophet, Russell Nelson, chose Henry Eyring, and Dallin Oaks, as his two counselors. Uchtdorf has been relegated to his former position in serving as one of the Church’s twelve apostles.
