Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

If I had to give this conference an overall title, I’d name it ‘The Confounding Contradictions’. The Mormon Church has always contradicted itself, but there are times when we see them doing so as if it’s second nature for them.

The one thing each speaker seemed to have in common was an overall sense of someone just going through the motions without thinking. Recently, they’ve seen a good sized portion of their leadership die due to age, and those that remain don’t seem to carry the same enthusiasm of their predecessors. Gone are the unyielding personalities of McConkie and Talmage, the new game in town reminds me of the Stepford Wives.

They’re merely parroting the lessons they’ve been taught before they collapse into bed at the end of each day.

Personally, I’ve always referred to it as the ‘Eyeore Syndrome’. They’ll do what they need to because that’s what they’re told, but it’s not without heaving a huge sigh of, ‘woe-is-me’.

I don’t know about you the reader, but I can’t think of Jesus without being excited for Who He is, what He’s done, and how fortunate I am that He saved me! I can point to the time when my old self began to change because of His supernatural work inside of me.

My dear Mormon people have known no such thing in their lives. They simply go from one day to the next, without any marker of when Jesus took up residence inside of them. Pray they’ll know the true joy of worshiping Him! Please, pray that they’ll know Isaiah 1:18!

flowers-cartoon-8Questions for Today:

Which is of greater worth; giving birth, or Blood of Christ?

How many babies are equivalent to Jesus’ spilt blood?

Before we begin this month’s Visiting Teaching Message we wanted to address a comment we received from a visitor (presumably LDS from the tone), and let him/her know we’ve been praying for them, and will continue to do so! The March 2016 VT Message must’ve struck a nerve because it was the 3rd time ‘Anonymous’ has written in response to our article.

John 14:27; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

LDS No PeaceGeneral Conference, ‘Opposition in All Things,’ April 2016; “The purpose of mortal life for the children of God is to provide the experiences needed “to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life.” …

From the beginning, agency and opposition were central to the Father’s plan and to Satan’s rebellion against it…

One of the best explanations of the planned role of opposition is in the Book of Mormon, in Lehi’s teachings to his son Jacob.

“It must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, … righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad” (2 Nephi 2:11; see also verse 15). … Similarly, in modern revelation the Lord declares, “It must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves” (D&C 29:39).” – Dallin Oaks

Isaiah 5:20-21; “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!  21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight!”

General Conference April 2016 3
For the next couple of days we’re taking a look at a few of the summaries for the talks given at the General Conference from this past weekend April 2-3, 2016. As is always the case, there were no revelations from the Church. One would think this might happen on occasion since they’re pretty resolute on the theory they must have prophets to reveal new things from their god.

Each of the three talks we looked at here are nothing short of deplorable, thus limiting ourselves to just a few of them here. I still haven’t decided which one is worse…

Witnessing Tip of the Day FebruaryFebruary 20 – 1 Corinthians 7:6-7; “But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. 7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.”

Mormon Decisions 10The other day I came across an online repository of sorts filled with LDS references about the Mormon Holy Ghost. The quotes were taken from speeches, and writings of past and present leaders of Mormonism, and as it turned out the page was written by a professor at BYU, Bruce K. Satterfield.

Looking over some of these I can’t help but feel sorry for those who absorb this into their spirit. There’s mass confusion from one leader to the next with no solid foundational truth upon which to stand. It’s no wonder the #1 issue for many new ex-Mormons is a lack of confidence about God’s Holy Spirit, and how He operates.

I just cannot imagine living life without God’s Holy Spirit as a constant staple in my life. When I’m lonely, or unsure about life, without fail, He is always there to guide me along and clarify doubts for me in His word and His presence.

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, April 2015, “The Parable of the Sower”; “The parable of the sower warns us of circumstances and attitudes that can keep anyone who has received the seed of the gospel message from bringing forth a goodly harvest…We have the seed of the gospeldallin-h-oaks word. It is up to each of us to set the priorities and to do the things that make our soil good and our harvest plentiful. We must seek to be firmly rooted and converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ (see Colossians 2:6–7). We ensure this conversion by prayer, by scripture reading, by serving, and by regularly partaking of the sacrament to always have His Spirit to be with us. We must also seek that mighty change of heart (see Alma 5:12–14) that replaces evil desires and selfish concerns with the love of God and the desire to serve Him and His children.” – Elder Dallin H. Oaks, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Mormon Decisions 10“Apostles Talk about Reasons for Lifting Ban,” Dallin H. Oaks, Daily Herald, Provo, Utah, 5 June 1988; “If you read the scriptures with this question in mind, ‘Why did the Lord command this or why did he command that,’ you find that in less than one in a hundred commands was any reason given. It’s not the pattern of the Lord to give reasons. We can put reasons to commandments. When we do, we’re on our own. Some people put reasons to [the ban] and they turned out to be spectacularly wrong. There is a lesson in that… The lesson I’ve drawn from that, I decided a long time ago that I had faith in the command and I had no faith in the reasons that had been suggested for it. […] I’m referring to reasons given by general authorities and reasons elaborated upon [those reasons] by others. The whole set of reasons seemed to me to be unnecessary risk taking. […] Let’s [not] make the mistake that’s been made in the past, here and in other areas, trying to put reasons to revelation. The reasons turn out to be man-made to a great extent. The revelations are what we sustain as the will of the Lord and that’s where safety lies.”

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, “The Great Plan of Happiness”, November 1993; “…When we have done all that we are able, we can rely on God’s promised mercy. We have a Savior, who has taken upon him not just the sins, but also “the pains and the sicknesses of his people … that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities” (Alma 7:11–12). New Era Article “Why We Do Missionary Work”

Part 1 – An Altar and a Sacrifice

I came across a speech given by Dallin Oaks which was then published in the New Era Magazine by the LDS Church and wanted to share it with our visitors.  There were several items of interest in this one speech, but for now we’re looking at just the first paragraph.  This topic warrants thousands of pages to be written, alas, the few things I have to say here is barely scratching the surface of all there is to say about Jesus, His death on the Cross and how our sins are atoned for.

The Mormon Jesus

Ensign Article November 2011, “The Teachings of Jesus”

We could sit at our computers all day, every day of the year to write and publish articles and that’d be okay.  However, none of those articles mean anything or can do anything if we don’t have the right understanding of Jesus.
