Lesson 21 covers chapters 1-3, and 8 of 1 Samuel (with no mention of chapters 4-7). I don’t know why I continue to be amazed at the way they bulldoze over God’s word in a Sunday school class just to get to the bits and pieces they need to use for their lesson. But I am!

http://www.lds.org; “Under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the heavens
and the earth (see Mosiah 3:8; Moses 2:1). From scripture revealed through the Prophet
Joseph Smith, we know that in the work of the Creation, the Lord organized elements
that had already existed (see Abraham 3:24). He did not create the world “out of
nothing,” as some people believe.”

As our readers know we’ve been posting the weekly Old Testament Sunday school lessons the Church is going through and to save my sanity I’ve put them all in one place to make it easier to access. If you want to find out what they taught when, you can find the widget over on the right!
We’re praying you use these as a witnessing tool or if you’re LDS you allow the information presented here to give you further insight about God and who He is. We do this out of respect and not to bash the Mormons.
With Love in Christ;

The Creation
This next lesson in the Old Testament centers on what Mormons are taught about the Creation of the universe in the Book of Moses and Abraham.
Again we find ourselves in this next lesson with Moses and his description of the vision he had of the creation of the universe in Moses 1:27-42. And then Moses 2:1-25 we see a reiteration of the creation account found in Genesis 1.

Like the first lesson in their study of the Old Testament lesson two has very little to do with the Bible, but has many references to other books in their canon.
This next lesson focuses on the Mormon belief that all of us lived before we came to earth in a premortal life with God. In this premortal life we lived as spirit children of God his goddess wife/wives. These spirit children include every person who has ever been born including Jesus and Satan, and 1/3 of the spirits who chose to follow Satan.

Baptismal Interview Questions – Part 5
One thing you’ll learn as you begin the process of converting to Mormonism is that Mormons think of themselves as a “covenant keeping people”. They believe they enter into and make many covenants with God throughout their lives, the first being the one they enter into when they’re baptized into the Mormon Church. This final question in the interview process asks for their commitment to keep this covenant.

Words of Joseph Smith, p 84 “”President [Brigham Young] gave it as his opinion that the Earth did not dwell in the sphere in which it did when it was created, but that it was banished from its more glorious state or orbit of revolution for man’s sake” (“Record of Acts of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles,” 1849 Record Book, p. 41, Church Archives). This and other statements like it probably had their origin with teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.” – Compiled and edited by Andrew F. Ehat & Lyndon W. Cook, BYU Religious Studies Center, 1980

In response to our article “Why do you love the Book of Mormon” one our Mormon readers had this to say –
“If you left the Mormon church because you “discovered” the power of the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ outside of the LDS church, I’m sorry you never understood that before you left. But plenty of people do.” – Lynda
“the power …of the redeeming blood ….of Jesus Christ… “

Plan of Salvation: Men Appointed to Die
Alma 42:5-6; “For behold, if Adam had put forth his hand immediately, and partaken of the tree of life, he would have lived forever, according to the word of God, having no space for repentance; yea, and also the word of God would have been void, and the great plan of salvation would have been frustrated. 6 But behold, it was appointed unto man to die—therefore, as they were cut off from the tree of life they should be cut off from the face of the earth—and man became lost forever, yea, they became fallen man.”
Genesis 1:28; “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

As I’ve watched the news coverage from the presidential debates I’ve heard a lot about what people think will happen if Romney is elected or Obama is re-elected. I’ve read what people have said online and heard the comments others have made about their fears of what the next four years will hold for us if the other guy wins.

Testimonies
Ensign, November 2006, pg 38; “A testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ will always include these clear and simple truths:
–God lives. He is our loving Father in Heaven, and we are His children.
–Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God and the Savior of the world.
–Joseph Smith is the prophet of God through whom the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored in the latter days.
–The Book of Mormon is the word of God.”

Creation
The book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price is the account of the creation. Moses 2:1-31 is much like the account of the creation as told in the Bible. Now if we skip over to Abraham chapters 4 and 5 in the Pearl of Great Price we see an entirely different story of the creation. Here it tells the Mormon that the ‘Gods’ created the earth and then created man. This is just one example of how the Mormons became confused.

God – Heavenly Father/elohim
As stated before, the Mormon god is an exalted man.
Hyrum L. Andrus said this in his book God and Man in Eternal Union, pg. 1; “The revelations of Joseph Smith support this view. “If the veil were rent today, and the great God who holds this world in its orbit, and who upholds all worlds and all things by his power, was to make himself visible,” the Prophet said, “you would see him like a man in form—like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as man.””

August 25 – Isaiah 45:22; “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”
_____
God has made it so very simple…
_____
“Joseph Smith’s divine calling as the restorer of plain and precious truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ was for the benefit of all the children of God, past, present, and future. Yet his role as the great latter-day prophet seems to have imbued him with a special concern for the descendants of the peoples of the Book of Mormon, generally known by the Church today as “Lamanites.”” Susan Easton Black and Charles D. Tate, Jr., eds., Joseph Smith: The Prophet, The Man [Provo:BYUReligiousStudiesCenter, 1993], 187.
