What does the word Christ mean?

The word “Christ” first appears in Matthew 1:1. The Greek rendering is “Christos” meaning anointed, the Messiah.  Messiah is a term for a high priest who was consecrated with oil.  The term Christ is never used in the Septuagint (oldest Greek version of the Old Testament).

Mosiah 4:29-30 “And finally, I cannot tell you all the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and means, even so many that I cannot number them. 30 But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.”

Heaven’s Gatekeeper

Journal of Discourses 7:289 “…no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are—I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent. He holds the keys of that kingdom for the last dispensation—the keys to rule in the spirit-world; and he rules there triumphantly…” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 9, 1859

We’ll be taking a look at the Church’s reports throughout the week.

We feel that because it’s Holy Week our focus should first go to the Lord. Be sure to check in soon!

Holy Week:  Do you know what it means?

I can’t believe Easter is just around the corner! Spring is my favorite time of year for a few reasons; but ultimately it reminds me of the new life I have in Christ.

Because of what Jesus has done for all of us, we can start anew.  Just as spring is a new beginning to the world around us, we can have a new beginning in our lives when we ask Jesus into our hearts.  Last year when I was newly out of the LDS Church I didn’t give much thought to Holy Week. As a Mormon, my family celebrated on Easter Sunday, and that was it.  There was no special Sunday service at church and no real acknowledgment of why this is such a special time of year.  As part of my growth as a new Christian and walk with the Lord, I wanted to take the time to learn about Holy Week and share what I learn with all of you.

The Angels and God’s Glory

John 10:11; “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”

Circa BC 4

Herod the Great was living in Jericho when the magi paid him an unexpected visit asking where they could find the King of the Jews.

That visit was all it took to put Herod’s paranoia over the edge.

At the same time in Rome, Caesar Augustus was pretending he was the savior of the world. …

Meanwhile, the Messiah was given birth to in a little town called Bethlehem.

No fanfare from the locals, or national holidays called for. However, on the outskirts of town, God summoned a miraculous event to take place on the hillsides of Judea that neither Herod, nor Caesar, could reproduce if they tried. (more…)

December 9 – Jesus Rejected for “King” Joseph Smith. Zechariah 11:4-6c “Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter; 5 Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not. 6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour’s hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.”

John 19:13-15 “When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. 14 And it was the preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! 15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.”

December 6 – Did Polygamy Fulfill Light to Gentiles? Isaiah 42:1-9 “Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. 4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. 5 ¶ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: 6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. 8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. 9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
