Mormon Decisions 10God (Elohim) an Exalted Man

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p 345; “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens. That is the great secret… It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the character of God and to know…that he was once a man like us. Here, then, is eternal life—to know that only wise and true God, and you have got to learn how to become Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods have done before you. .. God himself, the father of us all dwelt on an earth the same as Jesus Christ.”

Mormon Decisions 10LDS Basic Manual for Women, pp 91-96; “[The priesthood] is … the power of God delegated to man by which man can act in the earth for the salvation of the human family”…Elder Bruce R. McConkie explained the companionship role of the priesthood and women: “In the true Patriarchal Order man holds the priesthood and is the head of the household, … but he cannot attain a fullness [sic] of joy here or of eternal reward hereafter alone. Woman stands at his side a joint-inheritor with him in the fulness [sic] of all things. Exaltation and eternal increase is her lot as well as his. (D. & C. 131:1–4.) Godhood is not for men only; it is for men and women together.”

God’s loving parentage and guidance can help each willing, obedient child of God receive of His fulness and of His glory…The teaching that men and women have the potential to be exalted to a state of godliness clearly expands beyond what is understood by most contemporary Christian churches and expresses for the Latter-day Saints a yearning rooted in the Bible to live as God lives, to love as He loves, and to prepare for all that our loving Father in Heaven wishes for His children.
