 Christian Churches Hatched in Hell

Journal of Discourses 6:176 “Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth.” – Brigham Young

In the 1830’s Americans were in the infancy stages of the public education system; the majority of Americans were part of the agricultural economy; four times as many immigrants came into the country in that decade than the previous one; Louisa May Alcott, Emily Dickinson and Mark Twain were all born in the early to mid 1830’s, the Alamo took place, and TX became a state (1836); and notably the song, Jesus Loves Me was written in 1837 by Anna Warner.

In addition to these significant events another person who added to the course of history would write a religious book some referred to as the “Golden Bible”.

Eighteen-thirty is the year J. Smith published the first edition of the Book of Mormon, and formed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to Smith a handful of major events had taken place in the previous years, causing him to act upon the revelation he said God had given to him.

The most incredible ‘revelation’ is in the Pearl of Great Price under Joseph Smith Testimony. In it he claims he went to a grove in the forest to ask God which church he should join, and God appeared in the flesh with his Son Jesus Christ.

They went on to tell him not to join any of the churches because they were all wrong, and had become the “Whore of Babylon”. (more…)

Investigating Mormonism?

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11

We’ve updated our article, ‘Investigating Mormonism’ and thought it’d make a great witnessing tool for those who will be visiting friends/relatives over the summer months.

You can find lots of basic beliefs about Mormonism to ask your loved ones for their opinion on these classic LDS doctrines.

As an FYI,, you can find it at the top of our homepage on the right hand side…

For anyone thinking about joining Mormonism, we highly encourage a healthy investigation into their basic beliefs, as well as the history of the Church.

We thought we’d list a few of the beliefs to aid in your studies, so here we go!

We pray everyone will be as those in Thessalonica, and study to see if the things of Mormonism are what God has ordained!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

If Christians are anti-Mormon, are Mormons anti-Christian?

We posted this in 2012, and still haven’t seen anything from the Church denouncing the things they’ve taught on their feelings about Christianity. Below is our original post –

I signed up for Google-Alerts a few years back so I could get a heads up on top Mormon issues every day.

Now every morning when I download e-mails I keep seeing reports throughout the world of “anti-Mormons” doing this or that and how they’re out to get those un-offending Mormon people.

Journal of Discourses 6:229 “…tell all the great men of the earth, that the Latter-day Saints are to be their redeemers—that they have to look to them for their redemption, or there is none for them; and they will have to acknowledge that salvation is of Israel, and nowhere else.

The Lord gave his oracles to Jacob and to Israel, but to nobody else, and he never will. They are those who hold the Priesthood, and they are the only ones who could give redemption to a world.” – Joseph Young, Salt Lake City, July 26, 1857 (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation 2:130 “FALSE LIMITATIONS ON HOPE OF SALVATION. Let us reflect for a moment on this teaching that only those who confess the name of Christ or who are baptized in this life shall be saved; that all who have died without confessing Christ, or without having had the privilege of hearing him, are forever lost and are cast into hell; that there is no salvation for them, although it is no fault of their own that they did not hear.

Think of the countless multitudes who have died without the privilege of hearing of Jesus Christ! Are all these to be eternally consigned to torment with the damned? And this, because they were unfortunate as to time and place of birth!” – Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

Women of Mormondom, p. 541 “Paul, in the egotism of man’s apostleship, commanded, “Let the woman be silent in the church.”

The prophet Joseph corrected Paul, and made woman a voice in the church, and endowed her with an apostolic ministry. The chief faith of the Mormon women concerning themselves is that they are called with a holy calling to raise up a righteous seed unto the Lord a holy nation a people zealous of good works. The Mormon women have a great truth here.” (more…)

July 29 – Luke 18:9-14; “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” (more…)
