Trusting God’s Word

Doctrines of Salvation 1:32; “Our Savior was a God before he was born into this world, and he brought with him that same status when he came here. He was as much a God when he was born into the world as he was before.”

In this article we’ll be looking at two subject matters; the false prophecies in Mormon scripture about Jesus being God, and the reliability of the Bible.  While I know that sounds rather random, hang with me and you’ll see what I mean!

What the Witnesses Witnessed

D&C 17:1, 3-4, 6; “Behold, I say unto you, that you must rely upon my word, which if you do with full purpose of heart, you shall have a view of the plates, and also of the breastplate, the sword of Laban, the Urim and Thummim, which were given to the brother of Jared upon the mount, when he talked with the Lord face to face…3 And after that you have obtained faith, and have seen them with your eyes, you shall testify of them, by the power of God; 4 And this you shall do that my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., may not be destroyed, that I may bring about my righteous purposes unto the children of men in this work. 6 And he has translated the book, even that part which I have commanded him, and as your Lord and your God liveth it is true.”

Secret Societies

Evidences & Reconciliations, pg 282; “The Church ever operates in full light. There is no secrecy about its doctrine, aim, or work. It is open to all men who will conform to its requirements. Sacrament

Evidences and Reconciliations, pg 81; “The Sacrament should be taken with sincere acceptance of all that it means. The partaker should seek to cleanse himself from all evil. Otherwise the expected blessings may not be realized.”

Mormon Doctrine, pg 660; “By partaking of the sacrament, worthy saints renew the covenant previously made by them in the waters of baptism (Mosiah 18:7-10); unbaptized children, being without sin, are entitled and expected to partake of the sacrament to prefigure the covenant they will take upon themselves when they arrive at the years of accountability.”

Adam with Title of God

Evidences and Reconciliations, pg 67; “The Father called all spirits before Him at the creation of man, and organized them. He (Adam) is the head, and was told to multiply. The keys were first given to him, and by him to others. He will have to give an account of his stewardship, and they to him.””Adam holds the keys of the dispensation of the fulness of times; i.e. the dispensation of all the times [that] have been and will be revealed through him from the beginning to Christ, and from Christ to the end of dispensations that are going to be revealed.” …Certainly, under Christ, Adam stands at the head of the human race; as certainly, he will be blessed with the title God.” – John A. Widtsoe

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and the Great Apostasy

While putzin’ around on the internet this morning I came across what Mormons think of the Great Apostasy.  Now I’d love to just sit and read their info (seriously), but I find that my days aren’t filled with enough hours to do so.  However, this little clip of information stopped me in my tracks.

God’s Word Won’t Pass Away

D&C 1:38-39; “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. 39 For behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth abideth forever and ever. Amen.”

God No Respecter of Persons?

Family History Work and Genealogy

http://www.lds.org/study/topics/family-history-work-and-genealogy?lang=eng “In the spirit world, the restored gospel is preached to those who died without receiving it in mortality. Many of those in the spirit world accept the gospel, but without a body they cannot receive the ordinances necessary for salvation. The primary purpose of family history work is to obtain names and other genealogical information so that temple ordinances can be performed in behalf of deceased ancestors.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Solomon’s Temple

Today I was thinking about Solomon’s Temple in relation to the workforce it took to build the temple in 7.5 years and what the author of the Book of Mormon was thinking when he claimed Nephi built a temple much like Solomon’s.

Thomas Marsh to be Exalted

D&C 112:3-11; “Nevertheless, inasmuch as thou hast abased thyself thou shalt be exalted; therefore, all thy sins are forgiven thee.4 Let thy heart be of good cheer before my face; and thou shalt bear record of my name, not only unto the Gentiles, but also unto the Jews; and thou shalt send forth my word unto the ends of the earth.5 Contend thou, therefore, morning by morning; and day after day let thy warning voice go forth; and when the night cometh let not the inhabitants of the earth slumber, because of thy speech.6 Let thy habitation be known in Zion, and remove not thy house; for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do, in publishing my name among the children of men.7 Therefore, gird up thy loins for the work. Let thy feet be shod also, for thou art chosen, and thy path lieth among the mountains, and among many nations.8 And by thy word many high ones shall be brought low, and by thy word many low ones shall be exalted.9 Thy voice shall be a rebuke unto the transgressor; and at thy rebuke let the tongue of the slanderer cease its perverseness.10 Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.11 I know thy heart, and have heard thy prayers concerning thy brethren. Be not partial towards them in love above many others, but let thy love be for them as for thyself; and let thy love abound unto all men, and unto all who love my name.”

Joseph Smith III, to Succeed Father for Prophet

History of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, pg 789; “Now, Mr. Editor, if you had been present when Joseph called on me shortly after we came out of jail [Liberty jail, Missouri, Ed.] to lay hands with him on the head of a youth and heard him cry aloud, ‘You are my successor when I depart,’ and heard the blessings poured on his head,-I say had you heard all this, and seen the tears streaming from his eyes-you would not have been led by blind fanaticism, or a zeal without knowledge. . . .” – LDS Apostle Lyman Wight

Gethsemane and the Atonement

He is Risen; A Prophet’s Testimony, Liahona, April 2012; “I believe that none of us can conceive the full import of what Christ did for us in Gethsemane, but I am grateful every day of my life for His atoning sacrifice in our behalf. At the last moment, He could have turned back. But He did not. He passed beneath all things that He might save all things. In doing so, He gave us life beyond this mortal existence. He reclaimed us from the Fall of Adam. To the depths of my very soul, I am grateful to [the Savior]. He taught us how to live. He taught us how to die. He secured our salvation.” —President Thomas S. Monson

In celebration of my son’s birthday my husband and I treated the family to dinner and a movie the other night. As we watched the previews I was shocked at the amount of the new occult like movies that are going to be marketed to young kids. One movie is about a young boy who can see and talk to the dead, and the other is about yet another boy who brings his beloved, deceased pet back to life.

Is it just me, or are we seeing a lot of this type of genre marketing to our kids and teens lately? I have to say it grieves my heart to see so much of our modern media promoting the works of darkness and labeling it “entertainment”. I like to tell them “just because something is done in cartoon form doesn’t somehow soften the fact that the film at its core is about necromancy” as we see by the first two examples.
