Did  you know…?

With the advent of Joseph Smith’s death in June 1844, a leadership struggle  thereafter ensued. Sydney Rigdon insisted that he should take over because he was the leading authority as a member of the First Presidency.

The Money Spent by the LDS Church

Today I was looking at the front page online edition of the Salt Lake Tribune.  Their headline story got to me thinking…

In light of the recent articles we’ve posted about Joseph Smith, we’re wondering…what do you think Mitt Romney’s response would be if he was asked about Smith’s behavior?

People ask me all the time why I left the Mormon Church and so I finally put an article on the site and blog answering this question.

Then I got to thinking more deeply about this question and I have to say that while my reasons wouldn’t necessarily change, there was one definitive reason that caused me to really start investigating my faith.  I’ve shared this story in my testimony, but thought I’d share it here to start a conversation amongst our readers!  And yep, it’s because I love hearing how God works!

Who Brings Salvation?

Journal of Discourses 8:177; “For unbelievers we will quote from the Scriptures—”Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God.” Again—”Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God.” I will now give my scripture—”Whosoever confesseth that Joseph Smith was sent of God to reveal the holy Gospel to the children of men, and lay the foundation for gathering Israel, and building up the kingdom of God on the earth, that spirit of God; and every spirit that does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Anti-christ.” – Brigham Young, September 9, 1860

1 John 4:2-3; “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

1 John 5:1; “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

It’s interesting to note that Brigham was addressing the unbelievers in the crowd.  I guess when you quote scripture to unbelievers it’d be easier to add your own version of what the bible says – after all how would they know?

This is what makes my heart so sad.  Mormons like my mother will believe Brigham Young, yet she’s been groomed enough not to believe the Bible or how to read the rest of First John to find the truth for herself…if she could find First John.  Pray for her and all the Mormons won’t you?  Her name is Vickie.

It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men:

You may not know it, but the phrase above comes from the inspired writings of Doctrine and Covenants. You will find that line of scripture in D&C 3:3.  It reads once again, “It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men.”

PRE-EXISTENCE DOCTRINE

In John 3:1-15 we read Jesus saying: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”  LDS doctrine of the pre-existence creates a number of dilemmas in light of this teaching:

AS GOD IS, MAN MAY BECOME
Dear Mormons, do you know the the nature of God? Can you put into your words what God is really like to you?  Odds are if we asked you to describe the nature of God your answer would be what you have long been taught to say; “God is a God of Flesh and Bone.”

Honesty, is that too much to ask?

Recently I re-watched a video that features a BYU professor named Bob Millet. In the video he’s instructing a roomful of Mormon missionaries how to only answer the questions the investigators “should have asked” and not be honest them, nor willing to supply the correct answer to their question.

REVELATIONAL STANDARD

Mormons believe that revelation, not the bible, is the final authority in all matters of doctrine. If that is true, how then do they protect themselves from deceptions of the enemy?

Contradictions in the Doctrine and Covenants

Today we’re wondering why the prophecy declared by Joseph Smith contradicts what has taken place in the Mormon Church.  As you’ll see from the text, God told Joseph that whoever performs or declares more than repentance and coming to Christ is not in obedience.

Osama bin Laden and Baptisms for the Dead

So here at the ministry we were wondering how long it’s going to take for the Mormon Church to posthumously baptize Osama bin Laden and who would take on the task of being baptized for the dead to ensure his salvation.

God’s Holy Word and the Mormon Prophets

How can all 16 of the so-called men of God not believe Him?

Does this mean Jesus lied?  How can you trust the Book of Mormon that plagiarizes the Bible, yet not believe the Bible?
